Investigators with the Property Crimes Unit are asking for your help in identifying the individual responsible for the Theft at a local pharmacy store.

The subject was seen by store personal concealing 4 curling irons down the front of his trousers and then walking out of the store without paying for the items.

The individual is described as male in his late teens to early twenties, he stood 5’2″ – 5’4″ in height 150 -170 lbs., at the time of the theft he was wearing a black jacket over a dark-colored shirt, black jeans and black tennis shoes.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers Luncheon

Yesterday the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers Board hosted its annual Judges Appreciation Luncheon and Awards Banquet. The luncheon serves several purposes,

First, it’s serves as a way to say “Thank You” to the judges who support our program.  They do so  by administering a fine to every individual that is placed on probation in their courts. This particular fine is used by the Crime Stoppers program for the solo purpose of paying rewards to the tipsters who call the Crime Stoppers Hotline. So in a sense what happens is that the very individual who has been convicted of a crime in our county is now paying to put another criminal behind bars.

Secondly, we recognized the most productive Campus Crime Stoppers program for the previous school year. Those schools who excelled for the 2010-2011 school year are Moody High School and South Park Middle School.  Both of these campuses have had a long-standing succesful Crime Stoppers program which continue to promote and encourage participation in reporting illegal activity on their campus.

The luncheon is a fundraiser for the program, as mentioned above, the dollars received from the judges is strictly ear-marked for rewards and can not be used for the day-to-day operations of the Crime Stoppers office.

Therefore, the board is tasked with funding the operational cost of maintaining the Crime Stoppers office and this luncheon has proven to be a great resource to do just that. In the past, this function has raised nearly $6,000 to maintain the Crime Stoppers office.

Well, is it your Brother or your Husband?

Officers responded to the residence for a call involving a male shouting in the street and kicking a fence.  The suspect’s sister told Officers her brother was drunk, but had been picked up by his girlfriend.

Further investigation revealed the brother was hiding underneath her sister’s bed. The brother was arrested when a baggie containing Marijuana was found on floor where he had been laying.

The suspect became upset when Officers failed to rush him to jail and began banging his head on the cage.  Officers tried to stop him from injuring himself, but the suspect began to kick at them.  The suspect was pepper sprayed and he complied with the Officers’ request allowing them to transport him to the City Detention Center.

The suspect who originally identified himself as Raymond Jesus Garcia Jr. was positively identified himself as Richard Henry Herrera (02/06/86) and found to be wanted on a Parole Violation. 

Herrera was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Resisting Arrest or Transport, Failure to Identify as a Fugitive from Justice, along with the outstanding Parole Violation Warrant.

Officers were also able to determine the female lied and her “brother” was actually her husband and father of her children.

Mother Jailed for DWI, 4-year-old Released to Grandma

Occurred on 1/25/12, 12:42 a.m.   Driving While Intoxicated   3500 Gollihar   1201250003

Officers driving up to the intersection of Kasper and Gollihar were surprised when a white 2007 Mercury Mountaineer turned right in front causing them to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision.

The SUV was pulled over and the Officers contacted the driver Rachelle Munguia Castillo (04/25/74) who appeared to be intoxicated.  Castillo’s 4-year-old daughter was in the vehicle with her.

Officers administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Draw.  Castillo was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child.

The child was released to Castillo’s mother.

Struggle Over Cell Phone Lands Woman in ER

A mother and daughter were involved in a disturbance with a 69-year-old male over a cell phone.  A struggle ensued over the phone as the male started driving away.

As the driver sped away, the mother was side swiped and knocked to the ground.  She was taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel for non-life threatening injuries.

The male driver fled in a gray 4-door vehicle and was last seen heading the wrong way on Tancahua.  The Hit and Run driver is described as a 69-year-old Black male, 5’7” feet tall, and weighing 180 lbs.

One Arrested in Copper Theft

Occurred on 1/21/12, 9:18 p.m.   Theft   765 Savage     1201210131

 Officers contacted an AEP employee who reported he was checking their maintenance yard when he observed two legs sticking out of the transformer area. 

Upon see him, the male fled into an adjacent business yard.  Officers searched the fenced area and arrested Luis Chavez (05/24/78) who was found to be in possession of numerous transformer spades.

Chavez was arrested and charged with Theft a State Jail Felony.  The metal valued at $1,700 was returned to AEP.

Bravo District

Hot on the Trail, Kimbo and LaRoy Track Down Burglar

Occurred on 1/22/12, 6:21 p.m.   Burglary to a Vehicle   6649 Seacomber Drive     1201220123  

Officers responded to an isolated marshy area and contacted the victim who had been enjoying the afternoon fishing.  The 23-year-old victim reported his silver Ford pick-up truck was burglarized and the stolen items were inside a blue Chevrolet Suburban parked next to him.

The victim told Officers the suspect had smashed out a window and stolen his binoculars, a wallet, along with a Leatherman hand tool.  It was unknown where the suspect had fled.

Due to the terrain and oncoming nightfall, Senior Officers L. Priess and J. Lavistada along with their K-9 partners were asked to assist in finding the suspect.  Kimbo and LaRoy detected a scent and tracked it straight to the suspect who was hiding in the thick brush.

Joe Earle Huffman (12/02/47) was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.  The stolen property valued at $1,100 was returned to the victim.

Commander S. Escalante told reporters the Patrol dogs are an excellent tool and did a tremendous job in tracking a suspect who otherwise wouldn’t have been located.

Man Shot During Dispute

Occurred on 1/22/12, 10:10 p.m.   Aggravated Assault   2733 Waldron   1201220154   

Officers received a 911 call for a shooting at the Flour Bluff Apartments. Upon their arrival Officers found a 40-year-old gunshot victim who was rushed to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Further investigation revealed the couple had been involved in a disturbance in which the man forced his way into the residence threatening to harm the female. 

The 43-year-old female was feeling endangered by his threats fired, striking him in the leg.  He is listed in stable condition.

Homicide/Robbery Detectives are currently investigating the shooting and the female was not arrested.  Detectives will present their findings to Nueces County District Attorney’s Office for Grand Jury review.

BBQ + Beer + Football = Fight Over Stolen Aluminum Cans

Occurred 1/22/12, 10:09 p.m.  Burglary of a Habitation   1651 S. Brownlee     1201220153

A verbal confrontation over the theft of aluminum cans escalated into a fight.  The victim told Officers his neighbors were having a barbecue when he stopped by to talk football.  The suspect Frisco Candle (03/14/67) and his friends immediately accused the victim of stealing aluminum cans. 

The victim’s wife heard the fuss and walked out to check on her husband who was returning to their apartment followed by the Candle and company.  The suspect and his friends rushed the door just as the victim locked it. 

Candle and his friends were able to force the door open and push their way inside.  A fist fight ensued between all parties involved.  The victim’s wife was struck in the face and knocked down in the free-for-all.  The victims were able to push the neighbors out the door, but the suspects took several personal items with them. 

Officers arrested Candle and charged him with Burglary of a Habitation.  The victims stolen items were recovered outside their apartment and returned.

Bar Fight

Occurred 1/22/12, 2:12 AM      Aggravated Assault      5413 S. Staples      1201220024

Officers responded to a fight in the parking lot of the Aloha Club and found three victims.  Two of the victims, 49 and 23-year-old males, exited the club and saw the third victim, a 22-year-old male, being assaulted by several other men.  The two stepped in to help the third and they were also assaulted. 

When the group of hooligans heard the police sirens, they ran away.  Responding Officers were able to locate two of the men scurrying from the club and escorted them back to the bar where they were identified as being involved in the assault.  These men, Daniel Marvin 8.9.74 and Pablo Quintero 9.17.75, were arrested for Aggravated Assault and taken to jail.

Two of the three victims were struck in the head with bottles and the 22-year-old victim was transported to the hospital for stitches.
