No Pictures with that Camera!

The Corpus Christi Police Department was notified by a 38-year-old female that she had just been scammed.  She told Officers that she had just purchased what appeared to be a brand new Sony video camera, in the box, from a black male in a black Suburban.  The box was complete with Sony stickers which had the camera priced at $399.99, although she paid only $80.00 for the camera.  After removing the camera from the box, she discovered the camera had both buttons and switches; unfortunately, the camera was hollowed out and was just an empty camera shell.

Officers checked the area for the salesman but were unable to locate him.  The female asked the CCPD to let the public know about the scam.

Police Investigate Shooting Death

The Corpus Christi Police Department received a 911 call for an individual having difficulty breathing shortly before 11:00 AM.  Emergency personnel found a 55-year-old male gunshot victim who was rushed to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  Corpus Christi Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Detectives were notified and are currently investigating the shooting death.  The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of the victim’s death and release of his identity.

Victim Turns Out the Lights for Burglar

Occurred on 1/15/12, 12:42 a.m.  Burglary of a Vehicle   5702 S. Staples Street   1201150006

Officers contacted the 38-year-old victim who reported he was leaving Whiskey River and pressed the remote entry to his vehicle.   As he approached his pick-up truck, he saw his passenger side door open and a White male inside.  The victim yelled at the suspect who exited the truck and confronted him.  The victim punched the burglar Chase Russ (10/31/91) once in the nose and knocked him out.

CCFD Emergency Personnel medically cleared him and Officers placed him under arrest.  Russ was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle and Public Intoxication.

No items were found missing from the truck.

Police Academy Cadets Visit La Palmera Mall for Communication Exercise

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Police Academy Cadets will be conducting an interactive training exercise at La Palmera Mall on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 12:00 p.m.

The Cadets who are currently learning communication and problem solving will be practicing their communications techniques.  The Cadets are being taught how both good and bad communication can affect their relationships with the community.  

They will be contacting mall visitors and conduct a survey in which they will introduce themselves as future police officers.  Training Coordinator Denise Pace states they will be asking such questions as, “What characteristics do you believe makes a good officer?” and “What would you like to see from me as a new officer who swears to serve and protect you and our city?” 

Pace believes this exercise will allow the cadets to enhance their communication skills and allow them to have a better relationship with the public once they have graduated from the police academy.

Shoplifting Parents Arrested, Newborn Released to Aunt

Officers were at Carroll Lane and Gollihar when a B.O.L.O. (Be On the Lookout) was issued for a red Monte Carlo involved in a theft of several briskets at the H.E.B., 4444 Kostoryz Road.  The suspects were confronted at the door, but were able to escape.  They fled in the suspect vehicle on Gollihar towards Weber, nearly striking two vehicles in the parking lot as they made their getaway.  The suspects were unwittingly headed straight in the Officers direction. 

The Officers pulled over the red Monte Carlo and detained the occupants Jorge Luis Pena (08/21/92) and April Nicole Williams (02/02/93).  Williams was wearing her seatbelt, but holding her newborn son.

Pena and Williams were positively identified by witnesses and arrested.  Both Pena and Williams were charged with Theft and Endangering a Child ~ Criminal Negligence. 

Officers did find three brisket in their possession and returned them to H.E.B. personnel.

Delta District

“Catch” of the Day

Occurred on 1/15/12, 6:02 p.m.  Theft   3033 S. Port     1201150103 

An H.E.B. Seafood Department employee reported to police he helped a customer who ordered some shrimp before walking over to the lobster display.  The employee saw the shopper take something of the display and then browse around through the store.

Dwayne Porter (09/26/58) walked to the front store exit, but he was no longer holding the shrimp.  When the  employee contacted Porter, he saw a lobster tail hanging out of his pants.  Porter was detained and the police were called.   Porter had also hidden the shrimp in his pants.

Further investigation revealed Porter was hungry and wasn’t able to pay for the seafood. Porter was arrested and charged with Theft.  The lobster and shrimp were valued at $57.91.

The seafood was disposed of by store personnel.

*Update On Homicide* – 200 S. Tancahua

The Corpus Christi Police Department has arrested two juveniles in connection with the Jan. 13th Homicide on South Tancahua.

County Court at Law #5, Judge Chesney has issued a gag order on the case and no further information will be released by the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Salesman Arrested for Bail Jumping

Occurred on 1/12/12, 7:01 p.m.  Wanted Subject   1000 Brock    1201120124

Officers contacted Justin Marin (07/09/89) who was seen talking to another male in the 1000 block of Brock Drive.  Officers were checking the area after a caller reported a suspicious male knocking on several doors.  

Further investigation revealed Marin was selling cleaning solutions door-to-door without a permit.  He was also found to be wanted out of Maine.  Officers arrested Marin when extradition was authorized. 

He was charged with two outstanding warrants with multiples charges: Violation of Bail, two counts of Theft by Unauthorized Taking of Transfer and Violation of Bail for Forgery.

Female Jailed for Loitering

Occurred on 1/12/12, 10:05 p.m.  Loitering for Prostitution   5202 I.H. 37   1201120143

Sharon Gibbs (02/04/74) was observed in the convenience store parking lot approach several men and converse with them.  Gibbs saw the Officer turn into the parking lot and took off running. 

A short foot pursuit ensued in which the Officer caught Gibbs and arrested her.  She was charged with Prostitution ~ Loitering For and Evading Arrest.

Homicide – 200 Blk. S. Tancahua

Early this morning officers were called to the 200 block of S. Tancahua after witnesses heard unusual noises coming from the residence. When they arrived they located an 88-year-old woman bleeding from what appeared to be stab wounds; she was not responsive but had a pulse. Medics transported her to the hospital in critical condition.

Officers at the scene were informed that a light complected male subject, either Hispanic or White, was seen running from the apartment shortly before the victim was located. Witnesses described the individual as clean-shaven with a shaved head, 5′ 8″ to 5′ 10″ in height, 150-170 lbs.

While investigators were still at the crime scene they learned that the victim had succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
