An officer was transporting Angelica Marie Ortiz (06/05/93), who had been arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs from The Palace Men’s Club, to the City Detention Center for booking when he observed a tan 1978 Chevrolet El Camino driving the wrong way and heading straight at them. The Officer was able to pull the El Camino safely to a stop before it hit them.

Upon checking the license plate, the Officer found the vehicle to be stolen out of Aransas County. Kristie Salazar Gibson (01/09/69), the sole occupant, was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  The vehicle was impounded.

ATTF Seeks Auto Burglary/Credit Card Abuse Suspect

Auto Theft Task Force investigators need your help in identifying the individual responsible for the auto burglary and credit card abuse that occurred on Dec. 5, 2011 in the 13500 blk of Peseta Ct.

The suspect is described as a white male, short dark hair, 18-22 years of age. At the time of the credit card abuse he was wearing a white shirt dark stripes and jeans.

He was driving, what appears to be a dark-colored SUV possibly a Honda Element.

CCPD Benefits from Eagle Scout Project

On Saturday December the 10, 2011 Boy Scout Reece Bowers, from Boy Scout Troop 87, came one step closer to obtaining his Eagle Scout rank. Reece has been involved in scouting for 10 years.

His project for such a distinguished honor was to provide the Corpus Christi Police Department, as well as every sub-station, with a set of indoor ceremonial flags. He also provided several benches for the outdoor shooting range.

Reece raised the needed funds by holding several car wash events in order to make the purchases. He, along with a couple of his troop members, made the presentation during a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the Police Main Station Headquarters.

The Officers and staff of C.C.P.D. would like to thank Reece for his efforts and consideration to our department.

Homeowner Struggles with Burglar, One Suspect Arrested

Officers responded to the residence for a suspicious or unusual activity call in which someone was heard knocking on the front door.  Upon their arrival, the Officer heard a female yelling at him that the suspect was inside.

Once inside the residence, he found the suspect being held down by the 40-year-old homeowner.  The suspect was struggling with the victim, striking at him in his attempt to escape.  The suspect refused to stop his assault and was tasered by the Officer.

Randy Cruz Rodriguez (03/28/89) became cooperative and was taken into custody.  Further investigation revealed he was the ex-boyfriend of the homeowner’s 18-year-old daughter.

Cruz was charged with Burglary of Habitation and Assault Causes Bodily Injury along with an outstanding warrant.

Murder Suspect Arrested, Son Found Safe

Occurred on 12/12/2011    7:36 a.m.,   Murder   109 Highwood Street    1112120024

911/MetroCom dispatchers received a call, at 7:36 a.m., for a shooting at 109 Highwood. Officers and medics were dispatched and responded to the home, which is located within Jackson Woods Mobile Home Park at 3701 McKenzie. Upon their arrival, Officers found a   31-year-old female victim deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses reported to Officers that the victim’s live-in boyfriend showed up at their home and forced his way inside.  The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, chased the victim to her parent’s bedroom and shot the victim. The suspect then left the home with his 8-year-old son, who had been at the home at 109 Highwood.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had possibly fled to his residence in Alice, TX in a blue 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. A B.O.L.O. was put out on the vehicle. Officers from the Alice Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, the Coastal Bend Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, along with C.C.P.D.’s  S.W.A.T. and Hostage Negotiation Team worked together to locate the suspect at his residence.

At the location the victim’s son, who was uninjured, was released by the suspect Jose Gonzales III (09/12/67). Gonzales turned himself in shortly thereafter.

The Murder investigation is active and ongoing and will be conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau with the cooperation of the Alice Police Department.

Update:

On 12/12/11, Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Detectives transported and booked Jose Gonzales III (09/12/67) at the Corpus Christi Police Department City Detention Center.  He was charged with Murder and his bond set at $250,000. Gonzales is currently booked at the Nueces County Jail.

Short Pursuit Leads to One Arrest

Occurred on 12/11/11, 9:15 p.m.   Evading Arrest   Hwy 286 FWY @ S. 19th Street     1112110082  

An Officer observed a black 2008 Mazda speeding and attempted to catch up to the vehicle.  The driver tried to lose the Officer as it took the Tarlton Street exit and turned back around.  The driver drove thru the neighborhoods in the area.

Another Officer blocked the roadway on Tarlton Street and the driver pulled to a stop upon seeing the Officer.  The 16-year-old driver was placed in police custody and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Center.  He was charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Speeding, No Driver’s License, and No Proof of Financial Responsibility.  The suspect’s  vehicle was impounded. 

The 18-year-old female passenger was released at the scene.

DWI Driver’s Sister Returns Him to Accident Scene

Officers responded to the Cabaniss Dwellings apartment complex for a vehicle accident in which a blue 1990 Chevrolet 1500 struck a house.  Upon their arrival, Officers found the truck had driven through a chain link fence and crashed into the back porch, but the driver was nowhere to be found.  

A witness told Officers they observed the driver lose control, swerve into a field, jump a curb and strike the house.  The driver was observed to jump out of the truck before it struck the house and fled into the wooded area next to the home. 

Officers searched the area, but unable to locate the suspect who was described as a Hispanic male, 5’6” feet tall, and wearing dark clothing. 

While the Officer was finishing his investigation, the suspect’s sister returned with her brother to the accident scene.  The sister told the Officer, her 39-year-old brother was the owner of the truck.

The Officer contacted the suspect who was in the process of ordering the wrecker driver to unhook his vehicle.   He was covered in blood and had sustained several lacerations to his hands. 

The suspect who appeared to be intoxicated was treated at the scene by CCFD Emergency Personnel who determined he needed transport to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment.  A blood warrant was obtained for a blood specimen. 

Officers left the suspect in the care of Spohn Memorial medical staff, but Driving While Intoxicated charges are pending.

Narcotics Search Warrant

12.9.2011/8:55am   Unlawful Poss. Firearm by Felon/Poss.of Marijuana   336 Osage   1112090029

The Narcotics/Vice unit executed a search warrant at 336 Osage after conducting an undercover operation. During the search of the residence officers seized 13.5 lbs of marijuana, three handguns and $ 24,000 in currency. The first suspect (Casias,Ramon 05/15/52) was arrested for Possession of Marijuana (over 5 lbs) and Felon in Possession of a Handgun, the second suspect (Casias, Julian 11/29/90) was arrested for felon in Possession of a Handgun.

 

Burglar Arrested On The Way to Pawn Shop

Occurred on 12/08/11, 11:58 a.m.  Burglary of a Building   500 Ohio Avenue    1112080065 

Officer D. Bustamante contacted two individuals walking down the street with an edger.  Further investigation revealed they were on the way to the pawn shop to pawn the edger one of the males claimed to have found in an alley a couple of weeks before. 

Once the Officers took one of the individuals home, it was revealed the edger had been stolen from a neighboring home which was under renovation. 

Brandon Duane Grizzele (10/26/93) was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building. The 17-year-old male who was walking with Grizzele was released.

Officers were able to contact the owner of the edger and returned the stolen property to him.

Suspect in Joker Mask Makes Getaway with Store Register

Occurred on 12/08/11, 7:30 p.m.  Theft   301 Mohawk    1112080136 

Officers responded to the K Store for a robbery and contacted the 57-year-old owner who reported a male wearing a mask walked into the store, grabbed the cash register, and fled out the door with it.  No one was inju

The suspect is described as Black male, 5’6” to 5’8” feet tall and weighing 140 to 160 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a thick black hooded jacket, black jeans, and wearing a Joker mask.
