No Honor Among Thieves

Occurred on 12/04/11  3:00 p.m.  Burglary of a Habitation   4221 Valley Circle Drive     1112040061

Officers responding to a burglary contacted the victim who reported he heard the doorbell ring several times, but ignored it.  Shortly thereafter, he heard loud noises when the suspects jumped over the fence.  The suspects then pried open the back door and gained entry into the home.

As the victim walked out of his bedroom, he observed three suspects walking out of the front bedroom carrying some of his belongings.  One suspect surprised by the victim’s presence called out the victim’s name.  All three fled out the front door with the victim chasing after them.

The victim told Officers he was unable to catch the suspects, but one of them was a nearby neighbor who lived in the 4200 block of Snowbird Street. 

Officers contacted a juvenile at the residence and located some of the stolen property.  The suspects were not found at the residence.  Officers contacted the father, who ordered his 15-year-old son to return home where he was placed in police custody.

Further investigation revealed the identity of the second suspect who also lives in the 4200 block of Snowbird Street. The 13-year-old was detained and placed in police custody.

The identity of the third burglar was revealed and Officers contacted the 13-year-old at his residence in the 6900 block of Everhart Road.  He was also detained and placed in police custody.

All three suspects were charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

Man Arrested for Indecent Exposure

Occurred on 12/054/12, 2:04 p.m. Indecent Exposure 5901 Weber 1112040052

Officers responded to the Paradise Bay Apartments for a male exposing himself. Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the victim who reported she was standing in the patio area of her apartment when a Hispanic male jumped over the fence and asked if he could show her something.

The male exposed himself to her and asked for a cigarette before running off. Other Officers en route to the complex located the suspect walking in the 6300 block of Weber. As Officer approached the suspect, he fled into the Dolphin’s Landing Apartments.

A witness pointed out the apartment in which the suspect had fled into. Officer’s knocked at the door, but received no response. After approximately fifteen minutes, the suspect exited his friend’s apartment.

Michael Garibay (01/11/92) was taken into custody and positively identified by the 25-year-old victim.

Garibay was arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure, Assault, Evading Arrest, along with Failure to Identify as a Fugitive, when he lied to Officers about his identity. He was also charged with an outstanding Municipal Court warrant and a Nueces County warrant for Possession of Marijuana. No bond set on the Nueces County warrant.

The C.C.P.D.’s commitment to “Keep Corpus Christi Safe” has continued with its “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative”.  

On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, a total of 75 cars and 2 motorcycles will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department Vehicle Impound Lot located at 2600 Holly Road during our monthly auction. Approximately 10 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds. On Friday, December 2nd, 2011, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at www.siskauction.com. An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

Officers have issued 4,943 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility since January 1, 2011.

Father and Son Victimized in Late Night Home Invasion

Occurred on 12/02/11, 01:36 a.m.  Aggravated Robbery/Injury to a Child/Elderly   2510 Bevecrest Street     1112020011

Officers responded to the residence for a home invasion being reported by victims and neighbors.  Officers were advised the three suspects were wearing hoodies and armed with weapons.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted  the victims who reported three males armed with weapons kicked in their front door.

The 48-year-old victim told Officers, one of the suspects demanded money and jewelry at gunpoint from him.  The suspect ransacked the victim’s bedroom taking  a flat screen television and DVD player.

The victim’s 84-year-old father was awakened by the commotion and was knocked to the floor as he went to investigate.  The two suspect continued to attack the elderly victim as he lay defenseless on the floor, kicking and robbing him of his wallet. The suspects fled in a waiting late 1990’s white Buick Regal.  The victim sustained injuries to his back and shoulder.  He was treated at the scene by CCFD Emergency Personnel, but declined transport to the hospital.

A witness reported to Officers she observed the males wearing black hoodies leave the residence at 2510 Bevecrest and enter a white vehicle occupied by a female.  One of the males was wearing a Halloween mask and carrying a flat screen television.  Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years of age, 5’10” to 6′ feet tall, and weighing 180 to 200 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a white mask, and a Dallas Cowboy jersey.

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male 18 to 28 years of age, 5’8″ to 6′ feet tall and weighing 150 to 165 lbs.  This suspect was armed with a hand gun and last seen wearing a black hoodie.

The third suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18 to 28 years of age, 5’7″ to 5’10” feet tall, and weighing 155 lbs.  He was also last seen wearing a black hoodie.

The fourth suspect is a Hispanic female and 20 to 30 years of age.

This week our Most Wanted Gang Member of the Week is Mickey Valdez (08/02/70) who is wanted for Assault (Bodily Injury) and Motion to Revoke Probation for Assault.  No Bond on both outstanding warrants.

Theft

Detectives with the Property Crimes Unit are asking for your help in identifying the individual responsible for the theft of a purse of a Salvation Army Bell Ringer at 6101 Saratoga.

On Friday Nov. 25 shortly before 6 p.m. the victim, a Salvation Army Bell Ringer, placed her purse on a game machine just inside the front door of the business she was volunteering at. When she returned back to area she noticed that her purse was missing. She then contacted the store manager who was able to provide the police with a great camera shot of the incident.

The suspect is described as a white female possibly in her 50’s, 5’4″ to 5’6″ in height 180 to 220 lbs. grey or white hair and glasses. At he time of the theft she was wearing a green shirt which had printed on it “Ski naked it adds color to your cheeks” and blue jeans. She was last seen getting into a Grey or Beige Chevy Suburban.

Burglar Assaults Victim, Flees With Radio

Officers responded to the victim’s residence in response to a burglary.  Upon their arrival, the 26-year-old victim reported he went heard noises from the open garage area  and observed  the door to his blue 2010 Dodge Challenger open and his car stereo had been removed. 

As the victim walked into the garage, he was attacked and knocked unconscious for approximately an hour.  The victim regained consciousness and called police.  He was medically treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel, but refused transport to the hospital.

Couple Arrested In Shooting of 33-Year-Old Victim

Occurred on 11/13/11, 02:52 a.m.   Aggravated Assault   3049 Greenwood     1111130032

Officers responded to the Whataburger located at 2424 Baldwin and contacted a 33-year-old female who told Officers she had been shot in the area of 3000 Greenwood.

The victim and the three other female passengers in the her vehicle told Officers they were meeting up with a friend when she failed to make a turn.  The victim pulled into the Lone Star parking lot and made a u-turn when they observed a Hispanic female yelling at them.

The female was standing in front of a residence at 3049 Greenwood and accompanied by a Hispanic male who handed her a firearm.   The female then pointed the firearm and shot at the victim’s vehicle striking the driver.

The victim sustained a small puncture wound to her face and transported to Spohn Memorial.

The female suspect is described as a small built Hispanic female about 25 to 35 years of age.  She was last seen wearing a t-shirt with shorts.  No additional suspect description available on the male at this time.

UPDATE:

On November 22, 2011, Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau and Patrol Officers served a search warrant at 3049 Greenwood Drive.  During the search, the weapon used in the shooting was located inside the residence.

Further investigation revealed Arturo Villarreal (01/09/49) and Maria Antonio Ramirez (01/10/71) were responsible for the shooting in which the 33-year-old victim sustained facial injuries and treated at Spohn Memorial.

Detective R. Torres filed Aggravated Assault charges on both Villarreal and Ramirez with the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office who issued arrest warrants on November 30, 2011.  Both warrants had a bond of $50,000.

On December 1, 2011, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders & Fugitive Task Force arrested Arturo Villarreal at 3049 Greenwood Drive, while the shooter Maria Antonia Ramirez was arrested at 1200 Rocklawn Drive.

Victims Return Home To Find Burglar Walking Out With Television, Two Arrested

Officers contacted the victims who reported they arrived home to find two suspects burglarizing their residence.  One of the suspects was carrying the victim’s television out of the apartment.  The suspect set the television on the ground and fled.

Two of the victims gave chase, but were unable to catch the suspect.  A third victim who is disabled and wheel-chair bound stayed behind with the recovered stolen property.

The victims continued their search for the suspects and located them at the Staples Street Bus Station.  A confrontation ensued in which one of the victims was attacked.  He sustained minor scrapes and bruises in the assault.

The suspects fled again, but were quickly apprehended by Officers and returned to the Howard Street residence, where they were positively identified by the victims and a witness.

Carlos Emiliano Moreno Jr.  (09/21/93) and Leonard Joe Reyna (11/03/94) were both arrested.  Moreno was charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Assault, while Reyna was charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

Further investigation revealed the suspects had hidden the victims’ stolen property in the bushes.  It was recovered and returned to the victims.

“Not So” Candid Camera

Detectives in the Property Crimes Unit need your help identifying the individual responsible for a theft of a security camera.

Police were called to the office of Vaughan & Vaughan Orthodontics reference a stolen security camera. When they arrived they were given pictures of the suspect taken from the very same camera he had stolen.

The individual is described as a Hispanic male 25 – 35 years of age, 5’7″ to 5’10” in height. At the time of the theft he was wearing a black ball cap, and a black shirt. He left the area on a bicycle.
