Victims Return Home To Find Burglar Walking Out With Television, Two Arrested

Occurred on 11/30/11, 12:50 p.m.   Burglary of a Habitation   1618 ½ Howard St.     1111300057

Officers contacted the victims who reported they arrived home to find two suspects burglarizing their residence.  One of the suspects was carrying the victim’s television out of the apartment.  The suspect set the television on the ground and fled.

Two of the victims gave chase, but were unable to catch the suspect.  A third victim who is disabled and wheel-chair bound stayed behind with the recovered stolen property.

The victims continued their search for the suspects and located them at the Staples Street Bus Station.  A confrontation ensued in which one of the victims was attacked.  He sustained minor scrapes and bruises in the assault.

The suspects fled again, but were quickly apprehended by Officers and returned to the Howard Street residence, where they were positively identified by the victims and a witness.

Carlos Emiliano Moreno Jr.  (09/21/93) and Leonard Joe Reyna (11/03/94) were both arrested.  Moreno was charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Assault, while Reyna was charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

Further investigation revealed the suspects had hidden the victims’ stolen property in the bushes.  It was recovered and returned to the victims.

“Not So” Candid Camera

Detectives in the Property Crimes Unit need your help identifying the individual responsible for a theft of a security camera.

Police were called to the office of Vaughan & Vaughan Orthodontics reference a stolen security camera. When they arrived they were given pictures of the suspect taken from the very same camera he had stolen.

The individual is described as a Hispanic male 25 – 35 years of age, 5’7″ to 5’10” in height. At the time of the theft he was wearing a black ball cap, and a black shirt. He left the area on a bicycle.

Precision Driving

11.29.11/6:53am   Unlawful Carrying & Poss. of a Dangerous Drug   4600 Lansdown   1111290019

Officers were called to the 4600 blk. of Lansdown for several gunshots. When they arrived they contacted  a witness who gave officers a description of both the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle, who for some reason, was wearing surgical gloves.

Officers located the Silver Chevy Impala  in the 4700 blk. of Holmes that was driven by Antonio Maldonado (7-12-1984).

Inside the vehicle they located several spent shell casings, surgical gloves and a .40 caliber pistol.

When Officers searched Maldonado they located several pills in his possession, he was additionally charged.

Maldonado was arrested.

Fatal Accident

The vehicle Luis Ramos 8-13-80 was operating left the roadway struck and fatally injured, a 47-year-old male pedestrian, that was sitting on the bus bench at the corner of Staples and Doddridge. The vehicle continued into the parking lot of Walgreen’s were it struck two unoccupied vehicles and came to a stop.

Ramos did not appear to suffer any injuries from the accident. He was arrested for Driving while License Suspended.

Early Morning Pursuit Ends Safely, One Person Arrested

Occurred on 11/27/11,  01:18 a.m.  Evading in a Vehicle, 5600 Bush Lane     1111270015/C1108549/C1108550

An Officer, working radar enforcement on 11/27/2011, clocked a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.  The Officer attempted to pull the vehicle over,  but the driver refused to stop.    The driver of the white 2001 Nissan Maxima continued driving erratically as he headed southbound on Kostoryz Road striking and driving up on the curb several times.  The Officer, fearing the driver was intoxicated, requested the deployment of  “spikes” to stop the vehicle.

The pursuit continued through several residential streets in which the driver failed to stop for a posted stop signs.  The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal US Postal mail box and a concrete corner of a property gate.

The driver reversed toward the Officer, stopped and fled westbound on Saratoga Boulevard towards Greenwood Drive, failing to stop for the red light at SH 286.  The pursuit continued on Greenwood Drive, where the driver turned onto Gavilan Street and drove through the neighborhood until he fled westbound on Holly Road.

The suspect lost control of his vehicle on the curve at 5655 Bush and struck a dirt culvert and chain link fence.  The driver, Joshua Norberto Luna (07/17/90) bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving the three passengers behind.   The passengers included a three-month-old baby, his 18-year-old mother, and two 19 year-old males.  All passengers were checked by CCFD Emergency Personnel and not injured in the accident.

The suspect was located hiding in a dump truck and arrested.  Luna was charged with Abandoning/Endangering  a Child, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Evading Arrest on Foot, Reckless Driving and two counts of  Duty on Striking Fixture/Hwy Landscape.  He was also charged with two counts of Unsafe Change from a Direct Course and two counts for Failing to Remain and Report an Accident.

Luna was medically cleared at Spohn Shoreline and booked at the City Detention Center.

 

Jewelrey Shop Owner Chases Thief, Recovers $12,000 Necklace

Officers responded to the Corpus Christi Trade Center for a shoplifter in custody.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the 21-year-old owner of Ijaz Jewelers who reported he was demonstrating a gold necklace to a customer when a Hispanic male walked by and grabbed it.  The suspect fled towards the exit. 

The owner chased after the suspect and caught him in the parking lot where he was detained by security until Officers arrived.  The victim recovered his $12,000 gold necklace.

Hernan Caudillo (07/15/94) was arrested and charged with State Jail Felony Theft.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Wreck

Occurred on  11/25/11, 7:43 p.m.  Major Accident   3800 S. Padre Island Drive     C1108518

Officers responded to a one vehicle major accident involving a motorcycle.   Further investigation revealed the 35-year-old motorcyclist who was  traveling westbound on the access road attempted to change lanes and enter the on ramp to SH 358.  The victim lost control of his white 1996 Yamaha when he failed to see the raised concrete curb and collided with it. 

He sustained severe head trauma and transported to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Armed Landlord Confronts Tenant Over Her Children Playing in Parking Lot

Occurred on 11/27/11, 2:07p.m.   Deadly Conduct   9850 La Branch     1111270069 

Officers responded to the Westwood Apartments for a disturbance in progress involving a weapon.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the 31-year-old victim who reported the apartment manager had threatened her with a gun.  The victim told Officers a disturbance erupted over her children playing in the parking lot during which the 46-year-old apartment manager threatened to evict her.

The victim told Officers, the manager walked to his  red 2001 Porsche Boxster and armed himself with a firearm.  When the victim warned her husband about the gun, he stepped in front of her.  The suspect’s girlfriend exited the vehicle and stopped him.  They both drove off, but returned after police arrived.

Witnesses confirmed the victim’s account of the incident.  The weapon was not recovered, but the investigation is active and ongoing.

“From The Frying Pan Into The Fire”

Occurred on 11/22/11, 4:06 p.m.  Aggravated Assault   6249 Choctaw     1111220096

Officers responded to the residence for a disturbance over a borrowed skillet.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the victim who reported he was assaulted by his neighbor when he stopped by to ask for his borrowed cookware.    Aristeo B. Martinez (02/28/54) became upset at the victim and punched him in the face and entered the residence. 

Martinez returned outside armed with a pistol and punched the victim in the back of the head as he was walking away.  When the victim turned around, the suspect pointed the pistol at him and fired one shot in the air.  The victim fled and called 911. 

During their investigation, Officers were able to recover the firearm.  Martinez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The victim sustained minor injuries and treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel and released.

Ex-Girlfriend Arrested After Stabbing New Girlfriend

Occurred on 11/22/11, 8:45 p.m.   Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon   409 Claride Street     1111220132 

Officers responded to Bay Area Hospital reference a walk-in stabbing victim which occurred on 409 Claride Street.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the 19-year-old victim who reported her 21-year-old boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend were arguing about child care.  The victim became involved in the argument and was physically assaulted by the ex-girlfriend. 

The victim did not realize she was stabbed until the assault stopped.  The suspect ran off and the victim’s boyfriend drove her to the hospital where police were called.  The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial for a laceration to her neck and back.

Officers contacted witnesses and were able to locate the suspect at 526 Claride Street.  Jacqueline Ann Houghtaling (09/23/77) was positively identified by witnesses and arrested.  Houghtaling was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.
