Police report 68.75% reduction in firearms stolen from vehicles compared to previous month

Correction to previous post:

Corpus Christi Police Crime Analysts report a 68.75% reduction in firearms stolen from vehicles in April, 2016. There were five reports to the Corpus Christi Police Department of a firearm stolen from a vehicle in the entire month of April, 2016. There were 16 reports of firearms stolen from vehicles in March 2016. The Crime Analyst provided a revision to the previous report at 14:45 today.

The original information reported at 11:05am on May 16, 2016 is:

“Corpus Christi Police Crime Analysts report a 93.75% reduction in firearms stolen from vehicles in April, 2016. There was only one report to the Corpus Christi Police Department of a firearm stolen from a vehicle in the entire month of April, 2016. There were 16 reports of firearms stolen from vehicles in March 2016.

The Crime Analysts report that 43 firearms have been reported stolen from vehicles in all of 2016 up to the end of April and only 11 cases of recovered stolen firearms in Corpus Christi. The report details that 12 firearms were stolen from vehicles and 6 firearms recovered in January; 14 firearms were stolen from vehicles and 0 firearms recovered in February; 16 firearms were stolen from vehicles and 2 firearms recovered in March; and 1 firearm stolen from a vehicle and 3 firearms recovered in April.”

Corpus Christi Police encourage everyone not to leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle unless it is in a locked container that is attached to the vehicle. Police Search For Jewelry Thief

A 63-year-old woman reported a burglary to her jewelry store Monday morning to the Corpus Christi Police.

The 63-year-old woman told Officers an estimated five hundred thousand dollars in jewelry was taken overnight while the business was closed. The 63-year-old woman told Officers that an unknown person broke through the concrete wall on the back of her building to get inside the store and take the jewelry. The 63-year-old woman told Officers the burglary was not discovered until hours after the burglary when employees arrived at the business.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives have obtained images of the suspect in this case. Detectives believe the suspect is an adult male, about 30 years of age, medium build, with somewhat dark hair, clean shaven, and appeared to wear a mask and gloves.

Police Work Traffic Crash With Fatal Injury On Weber Road

Corpus Christi Police worked the year’s 9th vehicle crash with fatal injury overnight on the 5800 block of Weber Road.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the 5800 block of Weber Road for a major vehicle crash.  Investigation revealed that a 42-year-old man drove his Mercury Grand Marquis northbound on Weber.  Witnesses told Officers that the Marquis collided with the backside of a truck just north of Caravelle Parkway.  Witnesses told Officers the Grand Marquis veered to the left and struck a telephone pole on the HEB side.  Witnesses told Officers the truck stopped, then fled the area without providing any information. The 42-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Several witnesses were interviewed.  Officers are not certain if the 42-year-old man had a passenger who fled the scene.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene and used laser mapping to construct a scale diagram of the crash.  AEP responded and braced the pole.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section are searching for the truck and do not know why it left the area. Man Crashes At Police Front Door On Friday The 13th & Gets Arrested

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 35 year old man Friday night after the man drove his jeep to the front door of the Police Bravo District sub-station and caused significant damage to the Police building and two marked patrol cars.

Corpus Christi Police “X Shift” had released from roll call and loaded up their patrol vehicles to start the work day a little after 9pm when there was a crash on Waldron and Graham Road which involved a black 2011 Jeep Wrangler and another car. There were no injuries in that crash. The operator of the Jeep pressed the accelerator and continued to travel from the road into the Police city vehicle parking lot, then struck a parked, unoccupied patrol car at the front door of the Police sub-station. The Jeep continued through the parking lot and struck an awning to the Police building which threw bricks onto a second parked and unoccupied patrol car which caused damage to the patrol car. The Jeep struck the second damaged patrol car and was finally stopped.

The Patrol shift supervisor for “X Shift” was inside the building at the time of the crash, and a patrol officer was outside the building and neither Officer was injured. The supervisor and the patrol officer met the operator of the Jeep, 35 year old Raymond Uebelacker (2/5/1981) and were relieved Uebelacker was not injured. The Officers did discover evidence that Uebelacker was intoxicated, so Officers arrested Uebelacker and took him to the hospital for a medical evaluation, and then delivered him to the city detention center.

Officers cleaned up the mess from the crash, the two patrol cars were taken out of service and sent to the motor pool for repairs, and the Jeep was impounded. The building is still able to be occupied and in use. Officers delivered Uebelacker to the city detention center for Driving While Intoxicated with a blood alcohol content over .15, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine. No injuries were reported.

Police Hold Ceremony To Promote Two Captains and Two Lieutenants

Corpus Christi Chief of Police, Mike Markle, hosted a ceremony today at Police Headquarters to promote Captain Donnie Moore, Captain Kevin Bolles, Lieutenant David Saldana, and Lieutenant Mel Goce.
Corpus Christi Police Lieutenants are first line supervisors and Lieutenants Goce and Saldana will be assigned to a patrol shift of about ten to twelve patrol Officers. Corpus Christi Police Captains are second line supervisors and are assigned to a variety of functions in the Police Department.

Donald Moore

Lt. Donnie Moore is a 16 year veteran with the Corpus Christi Police Department and a graduate of the 59th academy.  During his career he has been assigned to patrol and has supervised the K9 unit, SWAT (where he has spent the last 13 years of his career) and CID’s Auto Theft Task Force.  He is currently working on his Bachelor’s degree.  Lt. Moore is married and has three children.  Moore’s father, Donald Moore, Sr. pinned the badge.

Kevin Bolles

Lt. Kevin Bolles started his law enforcement career at the Seminole County, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department in 1991 where he was a deputy, narcotics investigator and detective. In 2000 he graduated from the 59th academy and became part of Corpus Christi’s finest.  He has been assigned to patrol, Narcotics Vice Investigations, Project management for Homeland Defense Citywide video systems, Project Manager for Video Command Center and Mobil Command Center, and the supervisor assigned to MIS and IT.  Lt. Bolles current holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Ashford University and an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Seminole State College.  He is married, has three children and one granddaughter.  Bolles’ wife pinned the badge.

David Saldana

Senior Officer Saldana is a 9 year veteran with the Corpus Christi Police Department and is a graduate of the 66th academy. He has been the recipient of many commendations to include Officer of Month 5 times and recognized as Corpus Christi’s Outstanding Police Officer by Goodwill Industries for 2011 and 2012. Senior Officer Saldana graduated Cuma Sum Laude from Del Mar College in 2010 and holds 3 associate degrees. He is married and has three children. Saldana’s  wife pinned the badge.

Melvyn Goce

Senior Officer Melvyn Goce is a 22 year veteran with the Corpus Christi Police Department and a graduate of the 52nd academy.  During his career he has been assigned to SWAT, Narcotics Vice Investigations, Backgrounds and Recruiting and CALEA.  Senior Officer Goce has been the recipient of a Certificate of Merit, Officer of the year and currently hold a Bachelor’s and Associates degree.  He has four children.  Goce’s badge was pinned by Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle.

Corpus Christi Police captured two men suspected of armed robbery Monday night at South Padre Island Drive at Staples.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a robbery at a convenience store on McArdle near Rickey at 8pm Monday night and learned that a man displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the register.

Police responded to a second armed robbery at a convenience store on McArdle near Dody Street at about 9pm with a similar suspect description. No injuries were reported at the scenes of the robberies.

People near the robbery locations provided a description of the robbery suspect and the vehicle used by the suspect. Officers searched the area and then located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle fled and Officers chased the vehicle west on McArdle, south on Eberhart, then east on South Padre Island Drive. The suspect vehicle, a gray Pontiac Grand Am, struck a white Infiniti operated by a 43-year-old man at the intersection of S.P.I.D. and Staples. The Pontiac spun around and struck a Corpus Christi Police patrol car. Two men ran from the Pontiac and Officers were able to catch up to the a short distance away.

The 43-year-old man who operated the Infiniti complained of minor injuries. Officers and the suspects suffered minor injuries due to falls to the ground after the chase. The S.P.I.D. and Staples intersection was closed to traffic for an hour while Officers processed the vehicle completed crash reports, gathered evidence and impounded the Pontiac.

The two robbery suspects were taken to the hospital to be medically cleared for delivery to the city detention center.

Detectives are working to determine if the two men captured this evening are responsible for several other robberies in Corpus Christi recently. As of May 9, the two men are accused of the Robbery this same night.

Police arrested 28-year-old Sebastian Ochoa (10/14/1987) and 24-year-old Antonio Soriano (3/19/1992) for aggravated robbery and other related charges.

A 64 year old man called for emergency services after he accidentally shot himself with a handgun inside his home located in the 1100 block of Arnold Drive.

Officers arrived and found the man with a gunshot wound to his right leg.  He told Officers that he was moving the 9 millimeter handgun and when he grabbed the weapon, it accidentally discharged striking him in the calf.

The man was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS to be treated for his injuries.

A 50-year-old woman reported her car stolen from a friend’s apartment to the Corpus Christi Police at a little before 1am Sunday morning.
The 50-year-old woman told Officers she was at a friend’s apartment drinking when she left her car keys unattended while she went to the bathroom. The 50-year-old woman told Officers when she came out of the bathroom, she noticed her keys gone, and she looked outside to see her silver 2003 Pontiac Grand Am gone. The 50-year-old woman told Officers she does not know who took her car. The vehicle has not yet been located.

A 23-year-old woman reported a robbery at a store located at 2978 Holly Road to Corpus Christi Police Sunday night.
The 23-year-old woman told Officers a heavy-set adult male who wore a bandana over his face and gloves displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the register. The male fled on foot north, then got into a possible gray car on Santa Sofia. No injuries were reported and the man remains at large.

A 49-year-old woman reported a robbery at a store located at 4237 Kostoryz Road at 9:35 pm to the Corpus Christi Police Sunday night.
The 49-year-old woman told Officers a man came into the store and displayed a handgun then demanded cash and cigarettes. The 49-year-old woman described the man as an adult male, 5feet 5 inches tall with a tattoo under his right eye, and a sleeve tattoos on his right arm. The 49-year-old woman told Officers the man was dressed in black with a black hoodie , black and white Nike shoes and wore blue latex gloves. The man was last seen running south on Kostoryz. No injuries were reported and the man remains at large.

Police Arrest Man Accused of Murder Sunday Night

Corpus Christi Police arrested 49-year-old Stanley Purcell (3/10/1967) Sunday night for the accusation of murder that happened at Morgan Avenue at Port Avenue.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight at 7:06pm on Morgan Avenue at Port Avenue and found two people providing aid to a 35-year-old man who laid on the ground. The 35-year-old man had obvious injuries to the torso, which appeared to the officers as stab wounds, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment where the 35-year-old man later died.

Corpus Christi Police were directed to at 49-year-old man with accusations of causing the injuries to the 35-year-old man. Officers detained the 49-year-old man and spoke to witnesses at the scene. Detectives arrived at the scene to gather information and evidence. Detectives believe the 35-year-old man and the 49-year-old man somehow knew one another and got into a confrontation on the sidewalk next to a store. Detectives believe that the confrontation escalated to physical violence which ended with fatal injuries to the 35-year-old man.

The 49-year-old man was taken to Police Headquarters for an interview and was then arrested for murder. Officers then delivered the 49-year-old man to the city detention center. Detectives believe that there are no outstanding suspects in this case.

Corpus Christi Police would like anyone with any information about this case to provide that information to Homicide Detectives by calling 886-2600. The public is encouraged to provide any information they believe may be related to this case no matter how seemingly insignificant and the public should not assume Police have the information.

Woman Steals Bag From Busy Restaurant During Lunch Hour

Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to identify and locate a woman accused of stealing a “Hobo” bag full of valuables from a restaurant on April 29, 2016.

The 45-year-old woman who owns the restaurant reported the theft to Corpus Christi Police and explained that an unknown woman took a business shoulder bag which contained money and other items without permission. The 45-year-old woman told Officers the bag was left unattended in a chair near the kitchen on the south side of the dining room when the unknown woman picked up the bag, and left the restaurant while the dining room was full of customers. The 45-year-old woman showed Officers the video of the dining room which shows the woman pick up the bag, then pick up a baby, and leave the restaurant while a second unknown woman paid for the meal the suspect and the other woman had for lunch.

The 45-year-old woman described the suspect as a heavy set adult female in her Late 20`s, wearing an orange and white short Halter top sun dress with a tattoo on her upper right arm.

City Hosts Vehicle Auction Saturday

The City of Corpus Christi will auction 126 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the Police Vehicle Impound Lot, located at 5485 Greenwood Drive, on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The auction will start at 10:00 am.

The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, May 13, 2016. The general public can continue to view the vehicles from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on the day of the auction.

The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.
