Case Number: 1410060042
Corpus Christi Police are investigating a burglary to the Bill Bode County Building located at 11408 Leopard St. Office workers arrived to find several doors that had been pried open and office desks ransacked. A safe was removed from a locked closet and taken to another office and pried open. It appears as though suspects made entry into the build through the front door.  At this time officers are still investigating this case and no suspects have been arrested.

A 26 year old female called Corpus Christi Police from a convenience store on North Beach and said that she was giving a ride to a male friend of a friend from the downtown area across the bridge. She said when they arrived at the store she went inside to buy something and when she returned her 2007 Ford Focus was gone. She said she went inside and had left the keys in the ignition with the vehicle running and the male inside. The suspect is described as a white male with two triangle tattoos on his face and he was last seen wearing a red shirt and black shorts. The female was given a ride home by officers.  A little while later, officers found her car parked and abandoned in front of an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Antelope St. Officers are still looking for the male who took the car for a joy ride.

Financial Crimes Detectives Seek Public Help To Catch Counterfeit Thieves

Offense: Forgery of a Financial Instrument (Penal Code Section 32.21) Class A Misdemeanor

The Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate two men involved with passing counterfeit bills Sunday at a convenience store located at 4202 Staples Street.

A 35-year-old man reported the counterfeit bill to the Corpus Christi Police and explained that while the 35-year-old man worked as a store clerk, a male customer attempted to purchase cigarettes with counterfeit money. The 35-year-old man refused to sell the cigarettes and the man left the store.

The suspect is described as a 20-year-old man about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds, and wore a white cap backwards, a black t-shirt with white lettering, black shorts, white socks and black shoes. The suspect was accompanied by a man who wore a black cap backwards, a red sleeveless shirt with a blue back to the shirt, black shorts, white socks and black shoes and spoke on a cell phone the entire visit to the store.

Anyone who can identify either of these two men should contact the Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives at 886-2841. Offense: Driving While Intoxicated       (PC 49.04 Third Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the 10200 block of Kingsbury Dr. for a crash involving a child on a bike. The investigation revealed that Amanda Clayton (11/19/1980) was driving her 1997 Ford F250 truck west on Kingsbury Dr. when an eleven year old boy on a bicycle cut across the street in front of her and she struck him. Witnesses at the scene told officers the truck was speeding down the street before the crash occurred. Officers determined that the female driver was intoxicated and she was arrested, for driving while intoxicated, a third degree felony, and her truck was impounded. The boy was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS for injuries to his hand.

The City of Corpus Christi Cunningham Water Plant located on Ripple Rd. was broken into and several hundred dollars’ worth of copper tubing and wires was stolen. City employees were checking on the old water plant and found that the lock on the front gate was on, but that it did not belong to the City of Corpus Christi.  After checking it was determined that no one with the city had changed the lock and the lock on the gate was put there by someone other than a city employee.  Once the lock was cut, and entry was made onto the property it was determined that nearly $1000 worth of copper wire and tubing had been removed from a building on the property.

Offense: Burglary of a Building           (PC 30.02 State Jail Felony)

An employee at a business located at 430 South Padre Island Drive reported that the front doors of the business had been pried open. Camera surveillance from the property shows two males driving a black truck pull into the parking lot, get out and look inside the front door with flashlights. They are then scene going to the side of the building and one of the men takes a rock and throws it at the camera that is recording them until it breaks. The suspects then pry the front doors of the business open and enter the showroom area. While inside the suspects steal grass trimmers, chain saws and a laptop computer. The estimated total dollar amount stolen was over $2,700 worth of property. Both suspects wore light colored shorts, ball caps and polo shirts.  Officers are in the process of reviewing the images from the security system in an attempt to identify the suspects involved, however, no arrests have been made.

Offense: Engage In Organized Criminal Activity       (PC 71.02 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Vice Officers executed a search warrant at a home located in the 5100 block of Williams Drive.  Due to the house being heavily fortified the Corpus Christi Police SWAT team was used to gain entry.  Vice Officers had conducted a lengthy investigation after complaints about the home were received by the police department. The investigation revealed that an illegal gambling operation was being run out of the residence. Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and once inside they recovered several television sets, a camera surveillance system, poker tables, poker paraphernalia, four guns and nearly $2000 in cash.  Mario Gomez (08/03/1976) was arrested and charged with engaging in criminal activity, a state jail felony and additionally charged with keeping a gambling place, promotion of gambling, and possession of gambling equipment, all Class A misdemeanors.  Kevin McGee (09/04/1986) was also in the house when officers went inside.  They found him to be in possession of marijuana and he was arrested.  Other people inside the home were identified by officers and at this time investigators are trying to determine if they will face any criminal charges.

A 44 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after his car rolled into the Nueces River at Labonte Park. The man said he was attempting to turn around at the boat ramp and had stopped at the edge near the water. As he tried to back up, his white 2013 Dodge Challenger sedan began to slide into the river. The man was able to get out of the car and watched as it sank into the murky water about 30 feet from the shore.  The Corpus Christi Police Dive team is expected to try and recover the car on Thursday morning.

CCPD Monthly Auto Auction

The City of Corpus Christi will auction over 88 cars, trucks,  vans and  motorcycles at the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3. The general public can also  register and view the vehicles again from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on the day of the auction. The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from http://www.siskauction.com.

Corpus Christi Police received a call about a man down in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 2240 N. Padre Island Dr. When officers arrived they saw a man get up from the ground and get on a motorcycle and drive off. Officers attempted to stop the rider and after a short distance he dismounted the motorcycle. When officers approached him he took off running on foot.  After a short foot pursuit officers were able to catch up to the suspect and take him into custody. When officers asked him why he was running, he said he thought he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  Officers checked, but did not find the suspect was wanted.  Albert Soto (12/07/1965) was arrested for evading officers on foot, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at a business located at 2833 S Padre Island Dr. and found the front glass door had been broken. Officers entered and found the cabinet behind the desk in the front of the business had been opened and some property was taken. Witnesses told officers they saw a male with a long jacket and a hat running from the business toward Kostoryz Rd. after the alarm went off.  The owner estimated cost to replace the front door would be $600 and he estimated about $200 in cash was stolen.

Offense: Assault of a Peace Officer        (PC   22.01    Third Degree Felony)
Case Number: 1410010016
A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol was pulling into the Police Department parking lot located at 321 John Sartain St. when he observed a male suspect inside of a parked 2005 silver Mercedes-Benz with the driver side door open. As the officer went to investigate he saw the male getting out of the driver’s seat and the officer attempted to stop him.  The suspect fled on foot across the street and when the officer caught up to the suspect, he assaulted the officer. Both fell to the ground and the suspect grabbed the officers shoulder microphone and pulled it off of his uniform shirt. The suspect then reached up and scratched the officer across the forehead and caused other scratches to his elbow and arm before finally being taken into custody. Alexander Toynes (09/15/1986) was arrested and charged with assaulting the officer, a third degree felony and additionally charged with evading arrest on foot and burglary, both Class A misdemeanors.

Location: 7100 Southahven Drive
Offense: Hit and Run Investigation

Case Number: 1409300024
Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Southhaven Dr. for a hit and run crash with an AEP Power pole. Officers found a wooden electrical pole on the north side of the road had been broken off a few feet above the ground.  The remaining pole was standing upright in the street being held up by some wires.  Several other wires had snapped and were on the sidewalk.  A witness told officers she saw a white truck with a short bed in the roadway shortly after she heard the crash, and then saw the truck leaving the scene on Rodd Field Road. Officers determined that a vehicle traveling east on Southhaven Dr. jumped the north curb, and struck the wooden electrical pole and then fled the scene.  Damage to the pole was estimated to be about $3,500.  Corpus Christi Police Hit and Run Investigators will be looking into this case to see if they can identify a vehicle and driver involved.

Female Walks Out With Stolen Shoes

The manager from the Bealls Department Store located at 5488 South Padre Island Drive called Corpus Christi Police to report that over $250 worth of shoes were stolen. The suspect female went to the shoe department in the store and began cutting security tags off shoes and then concealed the shoes in hand bags.  Security camera images show a hispanic female, 30 to 40 years of age with dark medium length hair walking out of the store without paying. Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2840.
