Police Investigate Shooting on Calle San Carlos

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a possible aggravated assault which happened at a residence on the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos Wednesday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a shooting at 8:49pm Wednesday night at the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos and found a 23-year-old man outside a home with obvious injuries which appeared to the Officers to have been caused by gunfire. An ambulance took the 23-year-old man to the hospital for treatment for his injuries. Officers began an investigation and summoned additional resources to the scene. The Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab technicians were summoned with Corpus Christi Police Detectives to gather evidence and record statements from involved people.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a woman who stole money from a wallet at a store in Calallen on December 13, 2015.

A 59-year-old woman reported her wallet lost to Corpus Christi Police at about 5pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015. The 59-year-old woman told Officers she placed the wallet on the counter in the garden center of the store located at the corner of Northwest Boulevard and Interstate Highway 69 when she completed the transaction, then walked away leaving the wallet in place by mistake. The 59-year-old woman told Officers she returned to the counter and the wallet was gone and the clerk denied having seen the wallet.

Officers viewed store surveillance video which showed a woman who was in line behind the 59-year-old woman pick up the wallet, leave the store with the wallet, but then returned to the same check out counter to return the wallet. When the 59-year-old woman was provided the wallet, her cash was gone from the wallet.

Corpus Christi Police are now investigating this event as a crime and would like help from the public to identify and locate the woman who took the wallet. The woman who took the wallet is described as an adult woman with medium brown skin, and she wore a pink long sleeve “Browning” brand sweatshirt, dark pants and tennis shoes. The video shows the woman as she goes through the wallet before she returned the wallet with no cash. The woman then left in a silver four door passenger car with missing hubcaps on the right front and right rear tires of the vehicle.

January is designated as Crime Stoppers month by the Governor’s Office and Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers is proud of a productive year in 2015 as shown in an annual performance review.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers approved $45,930 dollars in rewards in 2015 as compared to $18,030 in 2014. Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers approved 114 tips in 2015 which means that an average of over 2 arrests each week that would have otherwise been unsolved crimes without the help from information provided to Crime Stoppers.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers had several notable arrests which include Case #1503240066 to capture a man for the bank robbery at the American Bank located at Everhart and Alameda; Case #1504200129 to capture a 24-year-old man who exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl at an arcade on Ayers Street; and the capture of Gilberto Garcia who was featured on the Texas D.P.S. Top Ten Most Wanted list for murder.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers credits several factors for the success seen this past year which include:

  • KZTV began to broadcast the “Wheel of Shame” in March and has led to the capture of 60 fugitives;
  • Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers began cooperation with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office to host the Wheel of Shame;

  • Completed a compliance review from the Governor’s Office of Compliance and Monitoring in July;
  • Received certification from the Texas Crime Stoppers Council July 27th;

  • Made use of a volunteer (Dan Hall) to improve tracking the resolution of tips. Mr. Hall started to volunteer with us in November 2014 and donated 133 hours and 15 minutes of his time to help the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers. Mr. Hall had to stop participation due to deteriorating health as of September 14. We wish him well.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers received 2,261 tips in 2015 which resulted in 6 recovered weapons, $1,000 worth of stolen property recovered, and narcotics seized with a total estimated street value of $4,690.

Auto Theft Task Force Wants Public Help to Identify Thieves on Kings Lake Drive

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force would like help from the public to identify and locate two men believed to have stolen items from a vehicle parked in the driveway to a home on the 7600 block of Kings Lake Drive on December 12, 2015.

A 49-year-old woman reported the burglary to the Corpus Christi Police on December 13 and explained to Officers that some unknown person entered her black 2014 Toyota Tundra and stole a brief case and other items. The 49-year-old woman told Officers there was no forced entry to the unattended truck. The 49-year-old woman provided video moments after the burglary which shows two men walking away from the truck and one of the men carries a brief case believed to have been taken from the truck.

Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Corpus  Christi Police Detectives arrested 39-year-old Kenneth Burk (9/6/1976) Wednesday afternoon for a robbery at the a bank located at 4622 Everhart yesterday morning.

The U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Fugitives and Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Burk at a hotel located at 1026 South Padre Island Drive at about 1:30pm today for an aggravated robbery warrant related to the December 11 robbery at a restaurant located at 5441 Everhart Road. Detectives obtained evidence to support Burk’s involvement to several robberies in the area, including the bank robbery committed yesterday, and Burk was additionally charged for the bank robbery at 5pm today. Burk was delivered to the city detention center for two warrants for his arrest, the accusation for the bank robbery, and possession of a crystal material which Officers believe to be controlled substances which were found with Burk at the time of his arrest.

Man Steals From Store Office While Workers Help Customers

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who climbed a wall to get into the office of a store to steal money and cigarettes while the store was open for business.

A 46-year-old woman reported the theft to the Corpus Christi Police Department on December 14, 2015 and told Officers that she had video which showed an unknown man climbed over a wall at about 7:35pm to the store office and the unknown man stole money out of her wallet and 36 cartons of cigarettes an estimated value of about $2,160 dollars.

The 46-year-old woman provided video to the Officers and described the man as a man about 20 to 30 years of age with a thin build and dark hair. The video shows the man wore dark pants, a white long sleeve shirt and black jacket. Group of Thieves Roam Residential Streets

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force would like help from the public to identify and locate the group of people who stole items from a vehicle on the 2600 block of Wool Drive last Wednesday morning.

An 18 year old woman reported a burglary to her vehicle Wednesday morning. The 18-year-old woman told Officers an unknown person went into her vehicle parked in her driveway overnight and stole papers with her identifying information. The 18-year-old woman provided video of the actual event.

Detectives watched the video and learned there were a group of people who roamed the street and approached several vehicles in the neighborhood. The video shows three people entered the 18-year-old woman’s car and opened the trunk to steal items from the car. The video shows a dark color truck with the door open which followed the group of thieves through the street.

Corpus Christi Police would like the public to be aware of this video to understand the activity so they may take precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Police encourage no valuables be left in an unattended vehicle.

Corpus Christi Police would like to warn the public about thieves who are taking packages from the front doors of homes left by parcel delivery services in Corpus Christi.

One particular incident happened on Monday afternoon on the 4300 block of Bratton Road which a theft was captured on video by the home owner. A 25-year-old woman told Corpus Christi Police Officers she discovered a silver Cadillac four door sedan stopped in her driveway at about 3:37pm and an unknown man got out of the passenger side of the car. The 25-year-old woman told Officers the unknown man went to the front door of her home, took packages left by a parcel service, and the man got back into the car and left the area. The 25-year-old woman told Officers she did not know exactly what was taken because she expected several deliveries and would have to take time to research what was delivered by the service.

A 47-year-old man reported an aggravated Robbery at a restaurant located at 5441 Everhart Road to the Corpus Christi Police Friday evening.

The 47-year-old man told Officers that a man displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The 47-year-old man told Officers that he handed the man the money, and the man ran out of the building and was last seen running west on Bonner.  No injuries were reported.

The 47-year-old man described the man as a male with dark skin, bald, and was about 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. Police have not located the suspect.

Investigators Believe Abducted Child May Be In Corpus Christi

Investigators contacted the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers for help to locate John Stanley Earl Junior, an abducted child who Investigators believe may be in the Corpus Christi area. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office Investigators believe Maria Earl (5/22/1962) abducted John Stanley Earl Junior (1/26/2005) on June 15, 2012. Investigators said John was last seen in the company of his non-custodial mother, Maria Earl, and Investigators have obtained three warrants for the arrest of Maria Earl related to the abduction.

Maria Earl is described as a 53 year old woman, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with black hair which may have been highlighted to brown, and brown eyes.

John Earl has a scar on the back of his neck and Maria Earl is known to have used the alias of Teresa Paredez. Investigators provided an image with age progression which shows how John may appear at 9 years of age.
