Police Offer Safety Tips To Reduce Risk of Violent Crimes

The Corpus Christi Police received several reports of violent crimes Sunday night and have the following suggestions for the public to reduce their risk. These are general safety tips which may reduce your risk of becoming a victim of a violent attack.

  • Be alert and aware. Pay attention to who is around you and avoid distractions.
  • Travel well-lighted, busy routes and avoid shadowed areas.
  • Have your keys in your hand as you approach your door, and remember to be alert to what and who is around you.
  • Be alert when using, or simply carrying, your cellular phone, especially after dark. There is a market for stolen smart phones. If you do not need to use the phone, keep it secured and out of sight.
  • Carry a purse close to your body, but do not loop or wrap straps around you. Keep wallets in an inside pocket.
  • It’s best practice to travel with others.

Your safety is most important. If you are the victim of a crime, report it immediately. Also be aware of crime in the areas you frequent. The public may search the site, Crimereports.com for current information about all the criminal activity reported to the Corpus Christi Police Department. Below are three violent episodes in which the public should be aware because of the similar nature of the crime, and the similarity in suspect descriptions. The suspects in these cases remain at large and the Corpus Christi Police work as an equal partner with the community to solve these crimes.
