Suspect Shot By License To Carry Holder Booked Into Jail

The man who was shot by a 69 year old license to carry holder after a robbery attempt  in the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos on January 6 has been released from Spohn Memorial Hospital and booked into the City Detention Center.

Officers arrested Eric Orlando Grimaldo (03/23/1992) about 6:30 PM yesterday afternoon. He had been under police guard while being treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds.

The suspect is charged with aggravated robbery, a first degree felony and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third degree felony

A 69 year man shot and stopped an armed robbery suspect who approached him in the front yard of his home, located in the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos, just before 9 PM last night.

The investigation of the crime revealed that the man and a women arrived at their home and parked in their carport driveway. As they  both exited the car, a suspect, wearing a hoodie, approached the couple pointing a gun at the man. The suspect made demands for the victim to give up his wallet. The man, a firearms license to carry holder, fearing for his safety and the safety of the female with him, pulled out his handgun and shot the 23 year old robbery suspect.

The man then held the suspect down until police arrived. The suspect was then transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

Officers recovered two handguns from the crime scene.

The suspect is in the hospital under police guard and faces charges of aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently in stable condition.

No charges are expected to be filed against the man who shot the suspect.
