On August 21, 2026, at 10:42 pm Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of IH 37 Access Rd. in reference to a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located one injured female. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Several subjects were detained at the scene.

Robbery Homicide Detectives were called out to assist.

The individuals detained were later transported to the main police station for interviewing.

Preliminary investigation showed there was a large fight involving multiple subjects. During the altercation a female victim was stabbed.

Detectives were able to identify the offender and secure a murder warrant. The individual was located on Treyway Ln. and taken into custody without incident.

Offender Emilio Ybarra (39) was transported to the main police station for interviewing. He was then taken to the City Detention Center for booking.

On Friday, August 21 at 2:24 pm. Officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department were dispatched to the 4600 block of Yorktown Blvd. in reference to a stabbing. 

When Officers arrived they observed a male being detained by citizens. Citizens advised Officers that the male suspect being detained had stabbed a female victim. The suspect was quickly detained by officers and placed into a unit. Officers observed the male to be in distress and immediately called for assistance from the Corpus Christi Fire Department. 

The male suspect and female victim were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The male suspect was later pronounced deceased. 

This is still an active and ongoing investigation.

Update to the City of Corpus Christi News Release:

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Joel Garza (44) and secure two warrants for Deadly Conduct Discharge Firearm-Weapons and Aggravated Assault-Deadly Weapon. Garza was taken into custody shortly after.

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 6:42 pm, an Officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department conducted a traffic stop at Prescott St. and Rosalie Blvd. for a traffic violation.

The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was unable to produce a driver’s license and appeared unusually nervous while attempting to conceal items in the vehicle’s back seat.

As the investigation continued, the Officer observed a firearm in plain view. The driver was detained, and a CCPD K-9 unit responded to assist. The K-9 alerted for the presence of narcotics.  Based on this probable cause, Officers searched the vehicle and located boxes containing suspected THC vape pens in the back seat.

The driver, America Soliz (23), was arrested and charged with Manufacturing/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 2, 4g–400g) and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Soliz was transported to the City Detention Center for booking, and the vehicle was impounded. 

Update: The male taken into custody was identified as Alberto Valdez (65). After interviewing, he was transported to the City Detention Center for booking where he was charged with murder.

Original: On July 27, 2026, at 12:45 am Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Christie St in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a deceased female inside of the residence. A male was taken into custody also at the residence.

Robbery Homicide Detectives were called out to assist.

The male will be transported to the main police station for interviewing.

Today the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division obtained a warrant for Official Oppression (Texas PC 39.03, Class A Misdemeanor) for Police Officer Frederick Garcia. The warrant was obtained in reference to an incident that occurred in the workplace on July 5, 2026. 

The incident was self-reported by the officer involved and was quickly investigated and determined to be a criminal offense.  As with all allegations of criminal officer misconduct, we work closely with our state and federal partners to ensure a thorough investigation. 

The case was presented to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office who accepted charges of Official Oppression. The Corpus Christi Police Department does not condone misconduct or actions that violate our policies, law, or the public’s trust.

This is currently an active and open investigation.  The Corpus Christi Police Department takes all allegations of crime and misconduct seriously and investigates them thoroughly in accordance with applicable laws and department policy.

UPDATE: Micaela has been located safely.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for assistance in locating missing person, Micaela Kimberly Smith (27).

Micaela was reported missing by her family. She was last seen on June 4th. She is approximately 5’5″ tall and weighs 150 pounds. She was last see wearing a black tank top and grey shorts.

Xavier was recently reported missing by family.

Xavier is described as a Hispanic male, who is 5’08” tall, weighs approx. 185 pounds, and has short brown hair and green eyes. Xavier has several tattoos.

Missing person update: Angelita Martinez was located deceased in the Padre Island National Seashore in Kleberg County Texas on May 6th. The Texas Rangers are actively investigating, and the Corpus Christi Police Department is assisting.

Angelita is described as a white female, who is 5’01” tall, weight approx. 160 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.
