The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 790 calls for service and generated 205 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. January 6 to 7:00 a.m. on January 7, 2016. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

A man armed with a knife robbed a convenience store located at 3302 Baldwin Boulevard.

Officers arrived at the store, and were told by the clerk that a black male wearing a white Nike hoodie walked up to the counter and asked to purchase some cigarettes. As the clerk was getting the item, the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded cash from the register.

Once he took the money, he fled on foot out of the store.

The store clerk was not injured.

Camera surveillance images of the suspect were obtained from the stores security system.

A 35 year old female was able to jump out of a truck that was parked getting gas at a convenience store located at 3958 Saratoga Boulevard, after she was kidnapped by her ex-husband.

It all started when the female was approached by her ex-husband at a restaurant near the intersection of Old Brownsville Road and South Padre Island Drive. He was armed with a handgun and forced himself into the driver seat of the victims 2015 Chevrolet Silverado truck and made her get in the passenger seat.

The ex-husband drove the victim’s truck south on Old Brownsville Road, holding her at gunpoint and making threats to kill her. At one point, the man fired a shot that went into the front passenger floor board near the female.

When the man pulled into the business on Saratoga Boulevard to fill up with gas, the female was able to go inside the store and alert the clerk to call the police.

Officers arrived and arrested the ex-husband, Roland Longoria (07/08/1978), for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, all felony offenses.

The .45 caliber handgun that the man used in this crime was found in the truck and it was determined to have been stolen out of a vehicle back in October of 2010.

184 Firearms Stolen From Vehicles in 2015

The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to inform citizens about auto burglaries occurring in the city and victims having their firearms stolen from inside their vehicle.

In  2015, the police department has investigated 184 reports of burglaries that involved a firearm being stolen from inside of the vehicle.  Only 45 of those stolen guns have been recovered.

The Corpus Christi Police Department respects the right to own and carry a gun,  but we want to warn citizens that these types of crimes are occurring in our city and remind them to  protect their firearms and keep them out of the hands of criminals.

Two men inside a home, located in the 1600 block of Caldwell Street, called Corpus Christi Police after four suspects entered the residence armed with weapons and demanding money.

Officers arrived and were told that the suspects entered the house and went into a back room. One of the suspects pointed a gun at one of the victims and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect the jewelry he was wearing, a gold chain with a medallion, three rings and some cash.

The other man inside the home said one of the suspects hit him in the face with a gun just before all four suspects left the residence in a black Lincoln SUV towards the Crosstown Freeway.

Neither the 31 year old homeowner, nor the 21 year old man hit in the face, was injured.

At this time, Officers have not identified any of the four suspects involved in this crime.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a wreck after a man crashed his car while traveling along State Highway 358 East near Kostoryz Road.

The crash investigation by Officers determined that the driver of a 2006 Suzuki was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, hit the cement barrier and veered back onto the freeway and struck a guard rail.

The 19 year old driver injured himself in the crash and was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS. During an investigation, Officers determined that the driver was intoxicated and when he is released from the hospital, he may face charges for driving while intoxicated.

Officers Arrest 2 For Firing Guns On New Years Eve

Corpus Christi Police made two separate arrests for people celebrating the arrival of the New Year by firing a gun into the air.

At about 11:25 PM Officers responded to a home in the 11200 block of Willowood Creek Drive after reports came in that a man was firing a .12 gauge shotgun into the air. When Officers arrived several witnesses told them that they saw a man come out of his home and fire shots from a shotgun into the air.

Officers contacted the homeowner, Justin Weldy (03/19/1987), and arrested him for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor. He was additionally charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, when the illegal substance was found in a pocket of his shorts.

The shotgun was tagged as evidence.

 

Just after midnight, Corpus Christi Police responded to a home in the 700 block of Eleanor Street after a man was seen in the driveway of his home firing a handgun into the air.

Officers arrived and found Robert Obregon (12/16/1986) in possession of a .9 millimeter pistol and 11 shell casing along the driveway of his home. He was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor, and his handgun was recovered as evidence.

 

A 43 year old man was lucky he was not seriously injured when a shot went through his home and struck him in the torso.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the home, located in the 4200 block of Easy Street just before 9:30 PM, and when Officers arrived they were told that a bullet came through the kitchen window and hit the homeowner who was sitting inside in the stomach. Luckily, he was not injured by the bullet.

Officers believe the shot came from an open field near the home, where gunfire had been heard earlier in the evening.

At this time, Officers have not located the person they believe is responsible.  It is unknown if the shot was fired by a hunter or if someone celebrating the New Year fired the gun.

CCPD Stays Extra Busy During New Years

The Corpus Christi Police Department worked through the New Year’s celebrations and have a summary report of the activity overnight.

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 1531 total calls resulting in 241 formal criminal complaints being filed between 6 PM December 31, 2015 and 6 AM January 1, 2016.

51 of those 1531 calls were for vehicle crashes.

431 of those 1531 calls were for fireworks

66 people celebrated New Year’s in jail on various charges

15 of those 66 were charged with driving while intoxicated

23 of those 66 were charged with public intoxication

2 of those 66 were charged with discharging a firearm in the city.

Traffic Investigators Make Arrest In Fatal Crash

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Rosendo Gilbert Hernandez Jr. (11/07/1975) for Intoxication Manslaughter yesterday related to a fatal crash back on August 16.

Just before 5 PM yesterday, Officers located him at his home in the 5800 block of Woodhaven. The arrest warrant has a bond amount of $75,000.

Traffic Investigators believe Mr. Hernandez was intoxicated while driving a Toyota passenger car east on State Highway 358, when he exited and struck a sign at Weber Road and then hit a cement piling under the freeway at the turnaround.

The driver of the Toyota also struck the rear of a Nissan passenger car that was on the freeway access road. A 37 year old female driver of the Nissan was not seriously injured, however, the 41 year old passenger in Mr. Hernandez vehicle was killed.

Officers believe alcohol was a contributing factor in this fatal crash.  The driver was not arrested at the time because he suffered serious injuries himself that left him hospitalized.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash involving two vehicles and a report that one of the drivers had fled the scene on foot.

When Officers arrived in the 2700 block of Ruth Street, the 23 year old driver of a Ford F150 truck said he was driving east on Ruth Street when a 2000 Ford Expedition traveling west entered his lane and sideswiped his truck ripping apart the front left tire. The Expedition then struck a utility pole down the street and the driver exited his vehicle and fled on foot.

During the investigation, Officers became aware that the driver of the Expedition ran to his home in the 3600 block of Chippewa Street. Officers went there and located the driver, David Blanco (10/04/1993), and after an investigation they determined that he was intoxicated.  He was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

No one was injured in the crash, however, AEP estimated the driver did nearly $500 in damage to the utility pole.

Couple Steals Purse From Store Clerk

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a couple that they believe stole the purse of a store clerk at the Times Market, located at 2909 Norton Street, on December 12.

The clerk told Officers that the male suspect, shown in the images wearing the red and black jacket, distracted her while the female he came in with, wearing a green hoodie, jumped the counter behind her and stole her Michael Kors brand purse.  The clerk said she did not see it happen at the time because a large cigarette rack blocked her view while at the cash register.

The two suspects in this case have not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime. Anyone who recognizes this couple or has information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840.
