Argument Turns to Fatality Accident

Officers responded to 100 Jasper for a pedestrian accident in the Gateway Mobile Home Park.

Upon arrival they found the victim, a 39 year old male, in the roadway with fatal injuries. Medics found life signs and transported him to Spohn Memorial.  Officers also contacted the driver, a 37 year old female. She advised that after an argument with the victim (an acquaintance of hers), the victim was attempting to gain entry to her vehicle to assault her. She drove away while the victim was holding onto her mini van and he was drug under the vehicle. The victim was later pronounced at the hospital.

Both Traffic follow-up and Criminal Investigation Division Detectives responded to the scene. Crime Scene investigators also responded to process and photograph. The case is still under investigation.

Bail Out Unsuccessful as Driver Quickly Apprehended

Officers set up surveillance on a maroon 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck being driven without the owner’s permission.   The truck pulled out from the Stripes Convenience Store at 4849 Leopard St. and began to head west bound on Leopard.

The Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to pull over swerving into oncoming traffic lanes as he attempted to flee from Officers.

Officers report the driver was looking for a location to bail out of the vehicle.  The driver swerved into a drainage ditch and bailed out.  The truck traveled on striking the Diesel Engine and Injection building located at 5558 Leopard Street.

The driver Matthew Lee McCabe (08/07/63) was apprehended and arrested.  He was found to not be eligible for a driver’s license renewal.  McCabe was charged with Driving While License Suspended/Invalid, Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, and Felony Criminal Mischief.

Neither the driver nor anyone in the building was injured.  The damage was estimated in excess of $1,500.

Speed Violations Leads to Arrest

Occurred 10/17/11, 10:01 p.m.   Possession of a  Controlled Substance   600 N. Omaha     1110170167 

Officers pulled over a  white 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage for a traffic violation at Leopard and Omaha. The driver was found not to have a valid driver’s license.  Libby Cruz, a passenger in the vehicle was found in possession of a rock of cocaine.

Cruz (05/20/76) was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. 

The vehicle was impounded as the 27-year-old driver did not have a valid license  and unable to provide proof of insurance.  He was cited for speeding, No Driver’s License, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

Yard Equipment Bandits Go to Jail

Units received a call for stolen lawn equipment, an Echo blower and an edger. The victim was able to give the Officer a good description of both the suspects and the vehicle they were driving.

While checking the area Officers located Brandon Portillo (7/10/1993) and Javier Pena (1/23/1991) at the Gold and Things Pawn Shop attempting to pawn the Echo blower. The edger was still in the bed of the truck.

Both Portillo and Pena were arrested for Theft. The blower and edger were released to the owner.

Stripes Robbery

Robbery Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for a Robbery that occurred on Oct. 9 at 2:45 am at the Stripes store located at 11201 IH 37 access Rd. southbound.

The witness, an off-duty Constable, told police that the suspect came into the store and grabbed two (2) 18 packs of Bud Light Beer and began to walk toward the counter. The clerk then advised the individual that he could not purchase the items due to the time of day. The suspect got upset and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. At this time the off duty officer intervened and told the subject to put down the items, that is when the subject struck the officer and a scuffle ensued.

After the short scuffle, the subject managed to get away and leave the store. A few seconds later, a second subject came to the front door of the Stripes and verbally threatened the Officer with his life.

Both subjects then fled the store location in a small black passenger car.

The first subject is described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties wearing a black ball cap, white t-shirt, and jeans.

The second individual is described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties wearing an orange shirt and blue jean shorts.

Aggravated Robbery 3238 Buddy Lawrence

Robbery Investigators are asking for the public’s assistant in identifying the individual responsible for an Aggravated Robbery that occurred on Oct. 9 shortly after 2 am at the Stripes store located at 3238 Buddy Lawrence.

 A witness told police that the suspect came into the store and waited until all the other customers left. The suspect then approached the clerk behind the counter and displayed a steak knife as he demanded the money from the register.

 He is described as a Hispanic male 5’ 8” tall around 180 lbs. with Black hair and Brown eyes. He had tattoo sleeves on both arms, a thin goatee and thick Black eye brows. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark Blue t-shirt, Black jeans and Black tennis shoes.

 After the robbery, he then fled the store on foot towardNandina St.

Major Accident with Pedestrian – 1100 Saratoga

The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling East in the 1100 block of Saratoga Blvd when he struck a female who was walking in the street.

The 35 year old female victim had been in an argument with Ruben Garcia (9.21.68) while they were in a vehicle, also in the 11oo blk of Saratoga, and had decided to walk. She was walking in the roadway when she was struck by the vehicle driven by David Stuart (7.4.1957). Stuart failed to stop and continued on without checking on the female victim. Seeing this happen, Garcia then chased Stuart’s vehicle down and rammed it, forcing it to leave the roadway.

The female victim was transported to Spohn Memorial with minor injuries.

Traffic Accident – Rollover on IH 37 Access – Sharpsburg

Officers responded to a rollover accident at the IH 37 @ Sharpsburg where a vehicle had rolled over. Officers arrived and found a 2002 Ford Taurus on its rooftop when they arrived. Inside of the vehicle were the driver Alberto J. Rodriguez (2.9.1972) and a passenger Maria Jasso (60 yrs of age). Medic units were able to get both occupants out of the vehicle and take them to Spohn Memorial for injuries.

The initial investigation, by Officers at the scene, indicate that Rodriguez was traveling East on the 4400 block of Sharpsburg and attempted to turn North onto 12600 Up River Road. He lost control of his vehicle and struck a “caution” sign. The vehicle then rolled and landed on its rooftop trapping the driver and his passenger.

Rodriguez was issued citations for “Fail to Control Speed”, “Fail to Maintain Financial Responsibility” and “No Driver’s License”. Officers at the scene suspected Rodriguez to be under the influence of alcohol as well. All paperwork was filled out for a possible “Driving While Intoxicated” charge.

 

Car Burglars Caught in The Act

Officer Alejandro was conducting Traffic Enforcement on the 4600 block of Columbia when he observed a vehicle turn off its lights before coming to a stop. The Officer then saw the passenger get out of the vehicle, walk up to two homes on Columbia and attempt to burglarize two vehicles. Once the Burglar was back in the vehicle, the Officer was able to call for backup and then make a traffic stop.

Officers made contact with Johnny Barrera (8.8.1990) and Teodoro Anguiano (1.3.1983). One Officer checked the two vehicles on Columbia and found one to have its door open and looked to have been ransacked. The Officer made contact with the vehicle owner who confirmed that his vehicle was damaged and had been burglarized. Both Barrera and Anguiano were arrested for the Burglary.

Barrera was also found to have marijuana in his sock and was additionally charged.

The Customer is Not Always Right…

Officers responded to Navigation Point Apartments and contacted the 20-year-old victim who reported he met a drug dealer at the Stripes Convenience Store on Horne Road and Old Brownsville. The victim told Officers he had been buying Marijuana from “Dominque” for about a month.

The victim told Officers he was in the process of purchasing some Hydro-Marijuana when he began to question the suspect about the quality of the Marijuana he was buying.  The suspect pulled a handgun and took the victim’s $1,200 along with the Marijuana.

The victim told Officers he ran home and smoked a large amount of Marijuana to calm down.  Once composed, the victim called police and reported the robbery.

At 12:20 am, Officers located the suspect at Angela and West Point.  The suspect fled from Officers and did not pull over until he reached his home at 957 National.  The suspect got out of the vehicle and walked away, ignoring the Officer.  Dominque Dashawn Martin (07/01/91) was arrested.  He was charged with Evading Arrest, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia along with an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.

The vehicle was impounded, but the money was not recovered.  Martin was not charged with the robbery, however the investigation is ongoing.
