Burglary To a Motor Vehicle, Agg. Assault, Attempted Capital Murder

On February 1, 2016 at approximately 11:42 pm Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to 6838 Everhart Road in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival officers contacted a 24-year-old man who told Officers that he caught several suspects breaking into his car. The 24-year-old man told Officers he held the burglary suspects at gunpoint and at some point there was an exchange of gunfire between the burglary suspects and the 24-year-old man. Two suspects (male and female) fled the scene in a vehicle and Zachary Garibay (2/2/1991) was detained by the 24-year-old man until Corpus Christi Police arrived and placed Garibay under arrest for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. Detectives believe there were no injuries as a result of the exchange of gunfire, and the only property damage reported was to a vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The 24-year-old man who is the burglary victim has not been arrested.

A description of the vehicle was put out over the radio. At approximately 12:03 am, the suspect vehicle was spotted and stopped at 7300 Prairie Dr. During this traffic stop a 24-year-old man pointed a gun at the officer. The officer fearing for his safety fired his duty weapon. The 24-year-old man ran from the shooting scene. The Officer arrested a 19-year-old woman also ran from the shooting scene, but was captured by the Officer. The 19-year-old woman, Abby Farrell (2/26/1996) was arrested for evading arrest and delivered to the city detention center.

Officers formed a perimeter around the scene and began searching for the 24-year-old man. The K-9 units also assisted in the search. During the search officers learned the 24-year-old man was in a home on the 4900 block of Lake Medina Drive. The Officers surrounded the home and attempted to develop a dialogue with the 24-year-old man. The Corpus Christi Police SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams responded to the home until SWAT entered the home at about 7:45am and found the 24-year-old inside with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment and placed under guard by Corpus Christi Police.

Corpus Christi Police believe all suspects in the burglaries involved in this episode have been located. Detectives continue to gather information and evidence about this episode to verify facts and circumstances.

UPDATE February 5, 2016:

On February 5, 2016 at approximately 6:20pm, Michael Garibay (11-11-1992) was released from the hospital and transported and booked into the City Detention Center. He was booked on one count of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of evading arrest and one count of failure to appear on a previous possession of marijuana.

Cloned Credit Card Suspect

Corpus Christi Police Department detectives need your help identifying this suspect. This suspect and his possible accomplice have gone to several businesses in Corpus Christi using a cloned credit card. They have purchased close to $2000 in merchandise with the cloned cards.

Detectives ask employees to please check ID’s to help deter this type of crime.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 27-year-old Lawrence Roberts (8/30/1988) for possession of marijuana and a theft from an adult video store when he was stopped for riding his bicycle the wrong direction on the access road of Interstate Highway 37 Wednesday afternoon.
A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Roberts ride his bicycle on the access road against the flow of traffic at 3pm Wednesday afternoon and conducted a traffic stop. The Officer discovered Roberts had marijuana in his pocket and arrested Roberts for possession of marijuana. The Officer then discovered an inflatable life size doll in the likeness of Miley Cyrus in a backpack carried by Roberts. The Officer knew of a theft at an adult video store located at 7430 Interstate Highway 37 which was called in to Police ten minutes prior to the stop with Roberts.
Another Corpus Christi Police Officer took the report from the store and learned that the Miley Cyrus inflatable doll valued at $49.95 was stolen by a person who matched the description of Roberts. The inflatable doll was returned to the store.
The Officer issued a “Class C” citation for theft to Roberts because of the amount of the stolen merchandise and then delivered Roberts to the city detention center for the arrest accusation of possession of marijuana.

A 56-year-old man reported damage caused by gunfire to his red 1998 Chevy Camaro which was parked on the 900 block of Oriole, to the Corpus Christi Police Thursday morning.
Officers responded to a shooting at 3:00am on the 900 block of Oriole and met several people outside their homes and a car with damage from gunfire. Officers said they believe some shots went ricochet off the car hood and struck a residence. The three men inside the home told Officers they were not injured. Officers had the 900 block of Oriole closed to traffic for two hours while they gathered evidence. Officers were provided estimates of vehicle damage at approximately $5,000, house damage approximately $500 and garage damage at approximately $200. No injuries were reported and no suspect has been identified.

A 28-year-old woman reported a burglary to her home on the 800 block of Oriole Wednesday evening. The 28-year-old woman told Officers she returned home from work at about 6pm and found her front door was open and her television, sound equipment, and gaming system were gone. The 28-year-old woman pointed out damage to Officers and said that it appeared her door was forced open. The 28-year-old woman estimated the value of the stolen property at about $3,000 dollars.

The male was seen entering the store and selecting a couple of items valued around $1200. He then left Lowes without paying for the property. He then met up with another subject in the parking lot waiting in a truck.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a fight where six males believed to be gang members beat another male with sticks, and had music turned up loud to cover screaming. Officers said they saw several people run to the back of the residence and jump a fence. Officers said Sky Cashat (4-7-78) ran from the scene and was caught and arrested for the evading arrest or detention. Officers said they found a 23-year-old man hanging his head out of the house yelling for help. The 23-year-old man was found to have several injuries to his head, including a large gash on his forehead. The 23-year-old man was transported to the hospital for his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 57-year-old Dino Mileto (6/1/1958) at a convenience store located at the 700 block of North Staples Monday morning for stealing a car from an auto dealership after tips from people who are homeless.
Corpus Christi Police responded to the downtown area to search for a stolen red 2014 Ford Focus after several people called from charitable organizations to say that Mileto had stolen the car. A Corpus Christi Police Officer found Mileto (who also has no permanent address) at the convenience store located at Staples and Leopard with the vehicle. The Officer detained Mileto and contacted the car dealership located at 4721 Ayers Street and learned that the car was left with the keys in order to be collected by another person and taken to auction. The Officer believes that Mileto saw the car with the keys and took the vehicle without permission, so the Officer arrested Mileto for the accusation of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealership representative and the Officer delivered Mileto to the city detention center.

SWAT and HNT respond to 6500 Lyons

On January 24, 2016 at approximately 9:20 am, patrol officers responded to  the area of 6500 Lyons for a suicidal subject. Officers arrived and attempted to make contact. As officers were attempting to make contact, they heard what they believed to be a single gunshot. At that point the CCPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Teams were called to respond.

HNT made numerous attempts to contact the male subject inside but never received a response. The SWAT Team carefully entered the house. Once inside they discovered that the 32 year old male was deceased. There were no other people inside the house. Officers are sill on scene at the time of this post.

ATV and Trailer Stolen From Storage Unit

Corpus Christi Police need your help in locating a stolen Kawasaki All-Terrain Vehicle that was taken from a storage unit located at 6630 Yorktown Boulevard.

The ATV was parked on a silver 16 foot flatbed trailer that was also taken by the suspects.

The owner told Officers that he parked the ATV and trailer in the storage unit on January 3rd and discovered on January 7, someone had pried the storage unit door open and taken the property.

Both the ATV and trailer are now listed as stolen.

The suspects in this case have not been identified, and detectives need your help in solving this crime.

Officers Arrest 2 For Firing Guns On New Years Eve

Corpus Christi Police made two separate arrests for people celebrating the arrival of the New Year by firing a gun into the air.

At about 11:25 PM Officers responded to a home in the 11200 block of Willowood Creek Drive after reports came in that a man was firing a .12 gauge shotgun into the air. When Officers arrived several witnesses told them that they saw a man come out of his home and fire shots from a shotgun into the air.

Officers contacted the homeowner, Justin Weldy (03/19/1987), and arrested him for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor. He was additionally charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, when the illegal substance was found in a pocket of his shorts.

The shotgun was tagged as evidence.

 

Just after midnight, Corpus Christi Police responded to a home in the 700 block of Eleanor Street after a man was seen in the driveway of his home firing a handgun into the air.

Officers arrived and found Robert Obregon (12/16/1986) in possession of a .9 millimeter pistol and 11 shell casing along the driveway of his home. He was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor, and his handgun was recovered as evidence.

 

A 43 year old man was lucky he was not seriously injured when a shot went through his home and struck him in the torso.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the home, located in the 4200 block of Easy Street just before 9:30 PM, and when Officers arrived they were told that a bullet came through the kitchen window and hit the homeowner who was sitting inside in the stomach. Luckily, he was not injured by the bullet.

Officers believe the shot came from an open field near the home, where gunfire had been heard earlier in the evening.

At this time, Officers have not located the person they believe is responsible.  It is unknown if the shot was fired by a hunter or if someone celebrating the New Year fired the gun.

Officers Make Arrest After Stabbing

A 19 year old man was stabbed in the chest after a fight between three men at a home located in the 5700 block of Tanglewood. Drive.

Officers arrived and found the victim with a minor stab wound to the right side of his chest.  He told Officers that he tried to intervene in a fight between two other men upstairs in the home when was stabbed by Ricardo Hernandez (04/10/1972).

Officers recovered the weapon and arrested the suspect for aggravated assault.

The victim was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

A boyfriend and girlfriend were arrested by Corpus Christi Police after the two were caught breaking into a vehicle in the 1000 block of Miramar Place.

Officers arrived and were given a description of the two by witnesses who saw the suspects enter a 2006 GMC Envoy and remove property from inside.

Francis Reza (08/27/1998) and Raul Medrano (04/29/1993) were both arrested for burglary.

The stolen property was returned to the owner.
