Patrol Report 05/06/2015

The Corpus Christi Police Department generated 202 reports for formal criminal complaints from midnight May 5 to 7:00 a.m. on May 6, 2015. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

 

“ADAM” District

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to a disturbance between a son and his father at a home located in the 4200 block of Molina Drive.

When officers arrived , the 44 year old father, told officers that his son got into a confrontation with him and a 23 year old man staying at their home.  He said that a verbal altercation escalated between the three and during the disturbance his son tried to stab the other two with a knife.

The son then fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.

A short time later, other officers were able to locate the son at the intersection of Horne Road and Old Brownsville Road. The son, Antonio Villarreal (06/29/1994), was arrested for aggravated assault.  The suspect was also found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrests on drug related charges.

The father and the other man involved in the disturbance with the suspect were not injured.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash involving a drunk driver and four parked cars.

Officers arrived at the crash scene and found that the suspect was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck south in the 3200 block of Sonoma Street when it struck a parked 2005 Jeep Liberty from behind.  The truck pushed the Jeep down the street several feet until it was pushed it into a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a home located at 3205 Somona Street.

The truck attempted to speed off, but struck another parked vehicle and a light pole in front of 3209 Somona Street. That vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Charger, was then pushed into a fourth vehicle, a parked 2011 Ford Expedition.    The suspect’s truck then became disabled and stopped.

After an investigation, officers determined that the driver, Humberto Garcia (09/03/1975) was intoxicated.  The driver was not injured and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

A 21 year old female walked into Spohn Shoreline Hospital after being stabbed by another female at a home in the 1400 block of Maryland Drive.

Corpus Christi Police Officers arrived and observed the female victim to have two stab wounds to her stomach, and a stab wound to her left arm. The female victim told officers that she went over to visit her 30 year old female friend who lived at the home. When she went inside the house she heard another female yelling at her from another room. When the female came out of the room, she recognized her. She was then attacked by the female suspect and stabbed with a knife. The victim ran out the house through the front door.

She was able to get a ride to the hospital were she was treated for the superficial wounds.

Officers attempted to locate the female suspect, but when they returned to the home on Maryland Street, she had already left the scene.

Mike Markle Appointed Interim Chief

Interim Police Chief Mike Markle

Mike Markle has been named Interim Chief of the Corpus Christi Police Department.  Chief Markle is a 25 year veteran of the department.

Chief Markle holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Leo University and recently completed his Masters of Business Administration from the American Military University.

In 2013 he completed the Senior Management Institute of Police, a course designed to prepare today’s police executives for the challenges of the next decade and beyond.  He also recently completed the Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, or LEEDS, that is designed for chief executive officers of the nation’s mid-sized law enforcement agencies administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Police Executive Research Forum.  Locally, he serves as a board of directors member of the Wesley Community Center.

Prior to his appointment as Interim Chief, Chief Markle served as Assistant Police Chief overseeing the Operations Division. This was a position he was appointed to in May 2012.

It is with deepest regrets that we must inform the community that our Chief of Police, Floyd Simpson, was involved in a motorcycle accident this afternoon in Port Aransas, Texas. Despite all efforts by medical personnel, Chief Simpson succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5:30pm today. Please keep his family and our officers in your thoughts and prayers.

More information will follow at a later time.

Floyd D. Simpson became Corpus Christi’s 22nd Chief of Police on March 12, 2012, following a distinguished career with the Dallas Police Department where he retired at the rank of Assistant Chief.

Chief Simpson brought extensive management experience, where as Assistant Chief in Dallas he oversaw both the Patrol and Administration Bureaus during his 25 year tenure.

Chief Simpson achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Amber University. He was a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute, the FBI National Academy, and the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. He served on the Executive Committee of Special Olympics Texas – Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Chief Simpson was married for 27 years and was the proud father of four children. Chief Simpson was an avid runner having completed four marathons, and also enjoyed riding his motorcycle during his few spare moments away from work.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a driver using a cell phone while driving and stopped the truck, only to find out the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Once the vehicle was stopped and the officer checked the license plate he was informed that the 1995 Ford F50 truck had been reported stolen from a home located in the 400 block of Vega Street back on April 9.

The officer was able to arrest the driver, Gregory Crissup (03/29/1991), for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a felony.

Also in the vehicle was a female passenger, Christi Gonzales (10/08/1994).  She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after methamphetamine was found in her purse.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol recognized a car traveling in the 4500 block of Leopard Street that had been reported stolen the night before.

A 34 year old female victim reported to police, on April 26 about 11 PM, that she had parked the car at an apartment complex on Glen Oak Drive.  While she was unloading a child, she left the keys in her front door knob of her apartment.  When she returned, the keys were gone, and so was her car.

Officers stopped the stolen car at about 9:45 PM the next night and arrested Jacob Criswell (08/19/1996) for unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 49-year-old man was injured by gunfire Sunday night when two men robbed the man in front of his home on the 4700 block of Angela Drive. A 45-year-old woman told Corpus Christi Police Officers that she and her 49-year-old husband parked in their driveway at about 10:50pm and were approached by two men. The 45-year-old woman told Officers that one of the two men asked if they wanted to buy a cell phone, but then displayed a pistol and demanded the purse and wallet from the 45-year-old woman and 49-year-old man. The 45-year-old woman told Officers that the man with the gun shot the 49-year-old man after the valuables were handed over. The 49-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance with an injury to his chest and leg which Officers believe are consistent with gunshot wounds. Medical staff told Officers the man is expected to recover from his injuries. Officers contacted at least one other witness to the event. The 45-year-old woman described the two attackers as men about 18 years of age with dark-colored skin and the men were last seen running from the scene toward West Point Road. The 45-year-old woman said one of the men wore a gray hoodie with dark pants and the other man wore a white shirt with dark pants. The woman did not report any other injuries or property damage. The two suspects have not been captured.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 57-year-old Kelvin Miles (5/3/1957) for aggravated assault on the 2900 block of Kitchens Street Sunday night after he attempted to stab a 20-year-old woman with a knife. Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight with a knife call at 6:37pm. Officers arrived as saw Miles hit a 23-year-old man in the face. Officers attempted to break up the fight and Miles continued to fight. Officers had to push Miles to the ground and struggle with Miles to place him into custody. Miles sustained a laceration to his right arm and was transported to Spohn Memorial Medical Center for treatment. A second victim of Miles’ assaulted, a 20-year-old woman, told Officers that Miles struck her in the face and attempted to stab her with a pocket knife. Miles was arrested, medically cleared from the hospital, and transported to the city detention center for Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest.

A 37-year-old man assaulted a 43-year-old man for following the 18-year-old daughter of the 37-year-old man on the 3100 block of Mansheim Boulevard Sunday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a vehicle crash on Mansheim Boulevard at 5:44pm Sunday and the caller informed the call taker that the driver was chased from the scene by another man. An 18 year old woman told Officers that the 43-year-old man who drove the truck followed her home from the grocery store. The 18-year-old woman told Officers the 43-year-old man whistled at her and told her to get in his truck. The 18-year-old woman told Officers she got scarred and went inside to alert her 37-year-old father. The 18-year-old woman told Officers that her father went out and searched for the 43-year-old man. Officers believe the 37-year-old man found the 43-year-old man a few minutes later. Officers believe the 43-year-old man fled from the 37-year-old man and caused his truck to crash into the pole. Witnesses told Officers that the 43-year-old man ran from the crash scene and was chased and assaulted by the 37-year-old man. The 43-year-old man provided information to Officers and was released from the scene. The truck was towed due to damage. No arrests were made and Officers continue to investigate this case.

A 25-year-old man told Officers he was stabbed by a 30-year-old man at about 10:20pm Sunday night in a store parking lot located at 1821 South Padre Island Drive. Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight call at 10:20pm and found the 25-year-old man with an injury Officers believed was consistent with a stab wound to the abdomen. A 28-year-old woman told Officers that she was with the 25-year-old man at the store when they were approached by a 30-year-old man who is the father to the children of the 28-year-old woman. The 28-year-old woman told Officers the 30-year-old man attacked the 25-year-old man and the 25-year-old man suffered a stab wound. The 28-year-old woman told Officers the 30-year-old man left in a green Ford F-150 from the scene. The 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment for life threatening injuries. The 30-year-old man is described as a male with medium brown skin, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and has not yet been captured. No other injuries were reported.

A 26-year-old man told Officers he was injured by gunfire at 9:50pm Sunday night at the 700 block of Saint Pius Drive after a robbery. The 26-year-old man told Officers that 2 slender black males who wore dark hoodies robbed him of his wallet and then shot him once in the chest. The 26-year-old man was transported to the hospital with possible life threatening injuries. The two suspects in this case have not been captured.

A 36-year-old woman reported a robbery at 2022 Treyway Lane Sunday night to Corpus Christi Police. The 36-year-old woman told Officers that she arrived home at 9:30pm with her 10-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son when she was approached by two men who wore gray hoodies. The 36-year-old woman told Officers that one of the men displayed a large revolver and demanded all her money.  The 36-year-old woman told Officers when she told the suspects she had no money the men took her purse and ransacking her vehicle.  The 36-year-old woman told Officers the two men then ran south through the complex towards Holly Road. The 36-year-old woman described the two men as about 20 years in age, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and had dark-colored skin. The suspects have not been captured and no injuries were reported.

A 40 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after another man threatened him with a knife.

The victim told officers that he had just driven over to pick up his 30 year old ex-girlfriend at her home located in the 2200 block of Waldron Road. According to the victim, the female had been texting him to come pick her and her two children up because her new boyfriend would not allow her to leave.

Once the victim arrived he said that the new boyfriend, Marco Rodriguez (11/16/1976), pulled a knife on him. Officers contacted him, and he was arrested for aggravated assault.

The victim was not cut by the knife.

CCPD Traffic Officers Investigating Fatal Crash

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Officers were called out to investigate a fatal crash this morning on Padre Island.

Police received a call, at 2:55 AM, from a passing motorist reporting that he saw a truck on its side in the grass in the 14100 block of Whitecap Boulevard.

Officers arrived and found the red 1996 Chevrolet Silverado truck still running and the driver still inside. CCFD EMS arrived and determined that the 39 year old male driver was dead.

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Investigators determined that the truck was traveling east on Whitecap Boulevard and appears to have struck the left curb. The driver overcorrected and then crossed the road before striking the right curb causing the truck to  flip onto its side.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

Eastbound traffic lanes on Whitecap Boulevard were closed for just over two hours while the crash was investigated.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and took custody of the victim.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the driver was the only occupant in the truck.

A 28 year old man jogging near Beach Access Road 4 on Padre Island called Corpus Christi Police after he found some human bones in the dunes.

The jogger ran to a nearby motel to call police and met them there.  He was able to direct the officers to the bones he had come across.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner was called and he confirmed that the bones were human and that they had been there for a while.

Officers will work with the Medical Examine to investigate if any crime has been committed.
