SWAT Responds to Sterling Drive Monday Night

The Corpus Christi Police SWAT Team responded to a call for a possible barricaded violent assault suspect on th 3400 block of Sterling Drive Monday night.

A 29-year-old woman asked for help from a resident of the 3500 block of Sterling Drive at 8:16pm Monday night after she was injured in an assault. Corpus Christi Police arrived and the 29-year-old woman explained that the man who injured her was not present, but may be at a home with a young child on the 3400 block of Sterling Drive and has access to firearms.

The 29-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for treatment for her injuries. Officers went to the 3400 block of Sterling Drive and found the suspects vehicle in the driveway. Officers also found the child, unharmed, and the Officers brought the child to safety and to someone who could care for the child.

Officers requested a response from SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team in order to establish safe contact with the suspect. The 3400 block of Sterling was closed to traffic from about 10:15pm until about 12:30am when the SWAT team determined the suspect was not in the home.

Corpus Christi Police Continue to search for the suspect at the time of this report. The 29-year-old woman told Officers she is familiar with her attacker and described him as a 32-year-old male about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 128 pounds. The name of the suspect will be made public if a warrant for his arrest is obtained or he is arrested.

Anyone who is in a violent relationship should contact local police and report each incident. Resources are available within the community in abundance which can help those in a violent relationship before injuries and property damage gets worse. Offense: Burglary of a Coin Operated Machine (Penal Code Section 30.03) Class A Misdemeanor

A 60-year-old man reported a burglary to a coin operated machine at the Mango Car Wash on Waldron Road to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday morning.

The 60-year-old man told Officers that an unknown man broke the coin machine at the car wash at about 5am that morning and provided Officers a video surveillance recording of the event.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man responsible for the burglary. The suspect is described as a bald man about 5 feet 8 inches tall and wore a black long sleeve shirt, jeans, a gold necklace around his neck and ate a taco while he broke into the machine. The man used a four door sedan with a woman passenger.

Off Duty Officer Arrested for DWI

On November 23, 2014 at approximately 4:24 a.m. an officer observed a tire and debris in the roadway just east of the JFK Causeway. He then came upon a single vehicle crash. The sole occupant of the vehicle, off-duty Corpus Christi Police Officer Billy Browning, #1145, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Officer Browning was transported to Spohn Shoreline to be medically cleared for the accident. A blood draw was also performed by medical staff. He was then booked into the City Detention Center.

Officer Browning (7.29.1978) has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of a criminal and Internal Affairs investigation.

Officer Browning has been with the Corpus Christi Police Department since August 1999 and is assigned to the Patrol Division.

A 19 year old female victim called Corpus Christi Police after she caught another female in her car while it was parked at an apartment complex located at 1938 Ennis Joslin Rd.

The victim told officers she and two of her friends went outside of her apartment to smoke a cigarette when she observed a female inside of her 2008 Jeep Liberty.  The victim pulled the female out of her Jeep and noticed she was in possession of three bags, one of which was hers. The suspect was detained on the ground in the parking lot while police were called.

The victim retrieved her bag which contained several electronic items.  The other two bags were recovered by the police and they are currently looking for the owners of that property.

Officers arrested Corinne Browning (06/30/1972) for burglary, a Class A misdemeanor.   The victim told officers she left her vehicle unlocked and that is how she believes the suspect entered her vehicle.

Bar Shooting Suspects

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released video surveillance that shows three male suspects that they believe were involved in a shooting that occurred on November 9 at the Bottom’s Up Club located at 5945 Williams Drive.

The video shows the three suspects entering the bar talking to a female at the cash register and paying a cover charge. A short time later the three males return to the cash register complaining that they want their money back.  The bartender informs them that there are no refunds and that they need to leave.

A disturbance between the three males and employees of the club occurred in the parking lot and one of the three suspects gets a handgun from their parked Cadillac.  The suspect fires several shots at the club bouncer and he is struck  twice in the back and once in the shoulder.  The 36 year old male bouncer was transported to Spohn MMC.

The suspects have not been located and Detectives need your help in identifying these violent individuals.  Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Robbery and Homicide Detectives at 886-2840. Corpus Christi Police responded to an assault at Spohn South Hospital located at 5950 Saratoga Blvd. after a man bit a security guard.

The 56 year old male hospital security guard was in the neonatal unit of the hospital after he received a call about a man hitting his girlfriend in one of the rooms.  The girlfriend, a 25 year old female, told officers she was in the hospital because she was recovering from having a baby.  She said she left the room to go to the nursery and when she returned to her room, her boyfriend, was there and he started accusing her of sleeping with hospital staff members.  He then started punching her in the back of the head causing her to scream out for help.

Hospital staff and two security guards arrived and they told the male that he had to leave.  The boyfriend refused to leave the room and then became aggressive with security.  During a struggle with security the male bit on of the security guards on the upper leg breaking the skin.

Corpus Christi Police arrived and took Matthew Johnson (12/29/1985) into custody.  He was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, a Class A misdemeanor, and for biting the security guard, a third degree felony.   The security guard received treatment for his injury in the emergency room of the hospital.

Corpus Christi Police officers looking for a wanted man out of New Mexico found him and more. Officers went to an apartment in the 500 block of Lakeside Dr. after learning the wanted person may be living there.

Officers found Harley Skeen (01/08/1989) walking out of the apartment with two other males. When they approached, the suspect dropped a clear plastic bag that had crystal methamphetamine inside.

The wanted man gave officers a false name, but after an investigation they determined he was the man they were looking for. The other two men were released.

The suspect was placed under arrest for the methamphetamine that he dropped and while searching the man, officers found another bag of methamphetamine in his possession. Officers confirmed the outstanding arrest warrants from the state of New Mexico for parole violation and burglary.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call about an unconscious female at a motel located at 11217 Interstate Highway 37 and found a 28 year old female on a bed in a room with a weak pulse and not breathing.   One of the officers began chest compressions on the female and she started breathing on her own.

The male staying in the room with the female said she had taken heroin. CCFD EMS arrived and transported the female to Spohn MMC.

Recognize This Cigarette Smoking Burglar

Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Detectives need your help identifying a man in this video that broke into a 2011 Dodge Ram truck while it was parked in the owner’s driveway in the 7300 block of Montreal Drive on November 4.

The suspect appears at 2:35 AM smoking a cigarette.  He walks up and then begins to check the door handles on the truck. The suspect opens the passenger side door and makes entry into the vehicle and once inside takes several items. The suspect is seen exiting the truck at 2:47 AM and walks off behind the truck and down the street.

A 27 year old female owner of a business located at 5601 S Padre Island Drive called Corpus Christi Police after one of her employees took in a counterfeit fifty dollar bill.  The female told officers she discovered the fake bill while counting cash proceeds from her business. The counterfeit bill appeared to have been altered from a five dollar bill and made to look like a fifty dollar bill.

The owner is in the process of looking at store video surveillance to see which customer passed the bill. Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives continue to investigate this case and no arrests have been made.
