Aggravated Assault

Police responded to 227 Hialeah reference a shooting. When they arrived the 56-year-old male victim told officers that as he was sitting in his living room watching television, an unknown white male in his fifties, opened the front door to his home and shot him.

The victim was hit one time in the upper torso. He was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim told officers he does not know why someone would have done this to him.

K-9 Sniffs Out Two Kilos of Cocaine During Traffic Stop

Occurred on 11/01/11, 8:29 p.m. Possession of a Controlled Substance 6817 SPID 1111010134

Officers T. Potter and E. Cano pulled over a white Ford F-150 for a traffic violation at 6817 S. Padre Island Drive. During the traffic stop Officers found the driver George Gomez Jr. (08/01/79) to be extremely nervous.

After further investigation, Officers requested a K-9 Unit to conduct a free air sniff around the truck. The K-9 Unit alerted on the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle approximately two kilos of cocaine were recovered inside a red ice chest.

Gomez was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. The cocaine has a street value of $50,000.

Motorcyclist Involved in Fatal Accident

Occurred on 10/30/11, 3:19 a.m.   Major Accident   2800 Laguna Shores     C1107845

Officers responded to an accident involving a motorcyclist who failed to negotiate the curve at 2800 Laguna Shores.  The 28-year-old driver of a 1999 Suzuki Colt left the roadway and struck a mailbox.

The driver was deceased at the scene.  Traffic Division Officers  are investigating the fatal accident.

Shoplifter Arrested at Wal-Mart Grand Opening

Officers responded to the new Flour Bluff Wal-Mart for a shoplifter who was being followed by the loss prevention officer.  

Officers located the suspect across from the Wal-Mart at the corner of Compton and Flour Bluff Drive.  The suspect identified herself as Leticia Ramos, but her identification card read Angelica Ramos. 

She had in her possession $171.88 of assorted health and beauty aids which she failed to pay for.  The suspect was arrested and charged with Theft.

Once at the City Detention Center she was positively identified as Angelica Ramos (11/06/88) and found to be wanted. 

Ramos was additionally charged with one outstanding Nueces County warrant for Assault on a Public Servant and one Jim Wells County warrant for Assault on a Public Servant, along with Failure to Identify as a Fugitive.  Both warrants had No Bond set.

Female Arrested in Slashing Incident

Occurred on 10/25/11, 10:26 a.m.   Aggravated Assault   1901 Rodd Field     1110250035

Officers responded to disturbance with an out of control female armed with a knife.  Officers contacted the 22-year-old victim who reported she was attacked by Lisa Michelle Lynch (01/28/89) who began to slash at her with a knife. 

The motive for the attack is unknown at this time, but the victim was not injured.  Lynch did sustain a  sustain a small laceration to her finger.  She was treated by CCFD emergency personnel and medically cleared. 

Lynch was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  She was additionally charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Aggravated Assault.

The knife was located in the suspect’s black 2003 Ford F-150 which was impounded.

Robbery Suspect Attempts Getaway on Bicycle, No Match for Police Car

Occurred on 11/25/11, 02:16 a.m.   Robbery   10241 S.P.I.D.     1110250009

Officers responded to the Wal-Mart for a shoplifting call when the store manager was assaulted.  Officers were told the suspect pushed the manager out-of-the-way and fled on a bicycle carrying a DVD player. 

Officers checked the area and located Lucas Wayne Grabbs (05/29/90) headed south bound  NAS Drive towards Lakeside.  Grabbs took one look at the police car and pedaled away fleeing from the Officer. 

He rode the neighborhood as he attempted to escape with the Officer following him.  Grabbs bailed and fled on foot.  The Officer pursued him and apprehended him as he stepped into one of the homes.  A struggle ensued and Grabbs was arrested.  

Store employees positively identified Grabbs who was charged with Robbery, Public Intoxication, Evading Arrest Detention, and Resisting Arrest.

The DVD player valued at $119 was located and returned to the store.

 

Suspicious Death Ruled A Homicide – UPDATE

Updating the suspicious death that occurred at 441 Stages on 10.21.2011, the Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide.  The cause of death is blunt force trauma.

Detectives have advised the Public Information Office that the deceased male was found in the living room of the home.

Detectives arrived did an initial processing of the scene. They secured the area and began to treat it as a suspicious death.

Detectives at the scene informed the Public Information Office that the victim lived alone and was last seen yesterday by neighbors.

Detectives continue to investigate at this time.

Officers were dispatched to 441 Stages for a man down call. Upon arrival they made contact with the CCFD Medics who advised them that the 90-year-old man in the home was deceased. Officers went into the home to secure the scene and noticed blood loss from the victim. They called for the Crime Scene Unit and for Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Division. Victim Held at Knifepoint for Six Hours

Officers were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy in the 14500 block of SPID. Officers made contact with a 45-year-old male who stated that he was the victim of an Aggravated Robbery. The victim stated that around 9:00 a.m. he was at a stop sign when a man approached his vehicle. The man asked for money and as the victim was giving him some money the suspect became upset, demanded more money and then got into the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then demanded the victim to drive him around town. The victim told Officers that the suspect pulled out a knife and held it towards the direction of the victim. This went on for nearly six hours until they were near Park Road 22. It was then that the suspect opened the passenger door and ran into the dunes with the victim’s business deposit bag. It contained roughly $3000 in cash.

The victim then drove to the CVS where he met Officers. The victim had cuts to his arm and was taken to Bay Area Hospital to be treated. Officers processed the scene for evidence.

Joyride to Corpus Christi, Not So Joyous

MetroCom Dispatch received a call for a drunk driver who was in a white Chevrolet Tahoe. Dispatch notified Officers that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Houston, Texas.

Officers located the vehicle on State Highway 358 where they attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once the police unit overhead lights were turned on the driver accelerated and then slammed on his brakes forcing the vehicle to come to a stop in the left median of the freeway.

Sergio Hurtado Jr. (8.24.1993), a Houston native, was taken into custody for the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was impounded for the Auto Theft Task Force.
