Criminals Got 129 Firearms So Far This Year In Corpus Christi

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force reported that from January 1, 2016 to October 31, 2016, there have been 129 firearms reported stolen from vehicles in Corpus Christi. The Task Force reported only 37 of those firearms have been recovered. The Task Force strongly recommends that you remove all valuables from unattended vehicles and definitely, do not leave a firearm unattended in a vehicle. One thing is certain, when a burglar steals a firearm, that means a criminal has a gun. Please help remove the opportunity for criminals to arm themselves and leave the firearms in a locked safe when unattended.

Patrol Report November 15, 2016

Offense: Criminal Trespass, Evading Detention

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the American Bank Plaza at 700 N. Carancahua in reference to a criminal trespass. Upon arrival officers made contact with the reporting party. Officers were advised that the 35 year old male had been coming into the business numerous times and was told to leave. The complainant stated every time they told him to leave, he would leave and then come back.

The complainant took the officers to the front of the business and observed the suspect returning to the business. Officers tried to contact the suspect who took off running through businesses. The suspect ran through the Wells Fargo Bank courtyard and then towards N. Carancahua where he was taken into custody. Officers arrested Nicholas Gonzales (12/29/1980) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the HEB at 4400 Kostoryz in reference to a theft in progress. The call stated that two juvenile males ran out of the store with a basket full of merchandise. The call was updated that the suspects were last seen in the area of Gollihar and Nicholson.

A patrol officer observed the suspects pushing the basket in the area of 4800 Kendall Drive. The officer made contact with the suspects and told them to stop. One took on foot and the other began struggling with the officer. The officer was able to control the suspect until backup arrived. Officers received a description of the other suspect and searched the area. The other juvenile male was located and arrested in the area of Mansheim and Gabriel Drive. Both suspects were taken back to the HEB and positively identified. The 14 and 15 year old male suspects were arrested and transported to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

Racing Arrest “You Done Messed Up A-A-Ron!”

Corpus Christi Police Officers were patrolling on SH 358 West bound and Greenwood. They observed a white Ford Mustang and a black Mercedes start racing in front of them. The vehicles accelerated to an extremely high rate of speed and were weaving in and out of traffic. This act put other vehicles on the road in danger. The vehicles would slow to catch up to each other and then speed off again. Officers were able to get close enough to conduct a traffic stop on the white Ford Mustang at 2200 Suntide Rd. Officers contacted the driver, Aaron Naranjo (07/18/1995), and placed him under arrest. Aaron was also found to have 2 municipal court warrants. He was transported to the City Detention Center.

 

Officers Searching for a Suspicious Subject Uncovers Major Stash of Marijuana

Corpus Christi Police Department Uniform Division Officers searching for a suspicious person Sunday evening uncovered a major stash of marijuana, weapons and cash at a residence on the city’s south side. At approximately 5:30 pm, Patrol Officers responded to the 5000 block of Carroll Lane to investigate reports of suspicious man knocking on doors, who was possibly involved in a prior burglary. Officers were directed to a particular residence that the caller stated the suspicious man had entered. Officers knocked on the door of the home searching for the suspicious man; a 23 year-old man answered the door and gave officers permission to enter and look for the suspicious man.

Once inside the residence, officers immediately observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside, as well as a large bag of marijuana on the kitchen table. Officers searched the residence for the suspicious subject, who was not found, but did observe other large bags of marijuana in open view throughout the home.

Officers then secured the crime scene and requested assistance from the Narcotics Vice Investigations Division. Narcotics Investigators responded to the scene, obtained a search warrant, and conducted a thorough search of the premises. As a result of the search, Officers found and seized approximately 40 to 45 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, four handguns, a shotgun, and approximately $438,000 in cash from throughout the home.

Officers also seized a Nissan Maxima and GMC Yukon believed to be used in the distribution of the marijuana. Estimated street value of the marijuana is between $750,000 and one million dollars.

Officers arrested Jared Langley (DOB: 9-2-1993) and Michael Laurel (DOB: 12-7-1992) and charged them with third degree felony possession of marijuana.

Person of Interest in Breanna Wood Missing Person Case

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying this person of interest in the Breanna Wood missing person case.  The female was trying to use the Breanna’s identification card at a local business. The female is wearing a green shirt, white skirt and white sunglasses.

Incident: Burglary of a Habitation

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 800 Furman in reference to a burglary in progress. A officer arrived an heard what sounded like someone rummaging through property. The officer observed a male subject run out the front door. The officer was able to stop and detain the suspect. Other officers arrived and cleared the house. The officers located the 25 year old female victim and her 6 month old baby hiding in the bathroom.

The victim stated that she was asleep when she heard someone trying to open her bedroom door. The victim stated that she grabbed her baby and hid in the bathroom and called police. The victim stated that she heard the rear window open up and could hear someone going through her property. Officers told her that the screen to the rear window had been removed. The victim told officers that the screen was on the window and should not have been lying on the ground. The victim also stated that no one should have been inside her house. Officers arrested Joe C. Galindo (04/12/1975). During a search of the suspect, officers located jewelry in the suspects pocket that belonged to the victim. Joe Galindo was transported to the City Detention Center.

Incident: Terroristic Threat-Displaying a weapon

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 1700 Lemonwood in reference to a disturbance with a weapon. Officers arrived and made contact with the victims. The victims, 31 year old male and a 20 year old female, stated that they were walking through Candlewood Park, They stated that they were approached by three male that told them they needed to leave the park. The victims stated that they were trying to locate the owner of two stray dogs when they were told to leave. The victims ran across the street to call the police. While they were knocking on the door, 3 males approached them in a black Chevy Avalanche. One of the suspects displayed a gun and stated to both victims that he was going to get them. The suspects fled in an unknown direction. The victims did not know the suspects.

Officer Involved Shooting-Additional Information Release

At 8:36 am Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area 400 N. Shoreline in reference to several calls about multiple gunshots fired in that area. Officers arrived at 8:40 am and advised that a white male suspect was southbound towards the 300 block of N. Shoreline. Preliminary reports state that the suspect was pointing a handgun at citizens and cars as he was walking.

Officers arrived at 300 N. Shoreline at 8:44 am. The officers confronted the suspect who engaged the officers with a handgun. Officer Lillian Pennick responded and fired at the suspect, striking the man with the gun.  He was transported to Spohn Memorial where he succumbed to his injuries. The Nueces County Medical Examiners Office has identified the deceased as Jordan Gonzales, 09/09/1993 .

Officer Lillian Pennick has been with CCPD since December 31, 2012. She is a field training officer and was working with her trainee, Officer Amber Buckelew at the time of this incident.   Officer Amber Buckelew has been with CCPD since October 5, 2015. She was hired a police cadet intern before starting the 75th academy.  Both Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the completion of this investigation.

Patrol Report October 31, 2016

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was flagged down at 3900 Greenwood in reference to a male assaulting a female at 2600 Belton Street. The officer went to Belton St. and observed a female sitting near a red car and a male subject subject sitting in the drivers seat. The officer observed the 49 year old female victim to be crying. The officer identified and detained the 29 year old male suspect.

The victim advised on 10/28/2016 at approx 2:00 PM she was at the Stripes at Ayers and Tarlton. She stated she went inside and when she returned the suspect, her ex-boyfriend, was sitting in her car. The victim told the suspect several times to get out of the vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle and forced the victim inside vehicle by grabbing her hair. The suspect then fled the scene with the victim. The suspect drove around the neighborhood. He then pulled over and taped the victims hands and wrists. The victim stated that the suspect drove around to several places stealing various items and selling them. The victim stated that the suspect would not let her leave and kept her overnight.

On 10/29/2016 the suspect put the victim in the vehicle and drove around with her. At some point the suspect removed the tape from her hands. The victim stated that the suspect bought her some food. She tried to escape but the suspect forced her back into the car. When they were driving in the area of 2600 Belton the victim jumped out of the car and ran down the street. The suspect chased her knocking her to the ground and hitting her about the face and body. Shortly after the police arrived. The victim had injuries about her body and injuries to her hands and wrists. Officers arrested Edwardo Quezada (12/20/1986) and transported him to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 5200 Crosstown Access in reference to a destruction in progress. The suspects were two males one wearing a grey hoodie and black pants and the other wearing a black jacket and black pants. The suspects were under the overpass spray painting graffiti.

Officers arrived and observed two males matching the exact description that was given. Officers observed several poles that appeared to have fresh paint markings on them. Offices activated the emergency lights on the patrol unit to contact the two suspects. A 20 year old male suspect took off running towards Ayers St. An officer gave chase and gave numerous commands to stop. The suspect continued running and went up the embankment and onto the freeway. Due to the danger to the suspect and officers, the officer stopped chasing the suspect.

Officers contacted the 19 year old male suspect. He was near fresh paint markings  He was detained by officers. Officers checked the area for the suspect that had run away. The officer walked up the embankment and observed the suspect. The officer safely crossed the road and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was found to have several pairs of latex gloves on him. The gloves are worn to prevent getting paint on their hands. Upon further investigation officers observed two cans of spray paint on the ground where officers initially observed the suspects. There was a odor of spray paint in the air and fresh paint markings on approximately 11 other poles in the area. Officers arrested Dagoberto Cantu (03/23/1997) and Fernando Cavazos (12/23/1995) and transported them to the City Detention Center.

City Hosts Vehicle Auction Saturday

The City of Corpus Christi will auction 118 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the Police Vehicle Impound Lot, located at 5485 Greenwood Drive, on Saturday, November 5th, 2016. The auction will start at 10:00 am.

The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2016. The general public can continue to view the vehicles from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on the day of the auction.

The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.
