The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 1,352 calls for service and generated 208 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. January 25 to 10:00 a.m. on January 26, 2016. This is a sample of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a fight where six males believed to be gang members beat another male with sticks, and had music turned up loud to cover screaming. Officers said they saw several people run to the back of the residence and jump a fence. Officers said Sky Cashat (4-7-78) ran from the scene and was caught and arrested for the evading arrest or detention. Officers said they found a 23-year-old man hanging his head out of the house yelling for help. The 23-year-old man was found to have several injuries to his head, including a large gash on his forehead. The 23-year-old man was transported to the hospital for his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 57-year-old Dino Mileto (6/1/1958) at a convenience store located at the 700 block of North Staples Monday morning for stealing a car from an auto dealership after tips from people who are homeless.
Corpus Christi Police responded to the downtown area to search for a stolen red 2014 Ford Focus after several people called from charitable organizations to say that Mileto had stolen the car. A Corpus Christi Police Officer found Mileto (who also has no permanent address) at the convenience store located at Staples and Leopard with the vehicle. The Officer detained Mileto and contacted the car dealership located at 4721 Ayers Street and learned that the car was left with the keys in order to be collected by another person and taken to auction. The Officer believes that Mileto saw the car with the keys and took the vehicle without permission, so the Officer arrested Mileto for the accusation of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealership representative and the Officer delivered Mileto to the city detention center.

Narcotics and Vice Investigators Seize Drugs from Cain Drive

Corpus Christi Police Narcotics and Vice Investigators arrested 32-year-old Crystal Maldonado (1/8/1984) Friday afternoon for manufacturing or delivering controlled substances at her residence located on the 5000 block of Cain Drive.

Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics Vice Investigations Division, assisted by Directed Patrol Officers, served a search and arrest warrant at 5022 Cain at 3:18 pm Friday afternoon.  During the search of the residence, investigators located and seized over 15 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 1.42 grams of brown powdered heroin.  Crystal Maldonado (1-8-84) was arrested charged with Health and Safety Code 481.112, Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1, 4 grams to 200 grams, which is a first degree felony.

SWAT and HNT respond to 6500 Lyons

On January 24, 2016 at approximately 9:20 am, patrol officers responded to  the area of 6500 Lyons for a suicidal subject. Officers arrived and attempted to make contact. As officers were attempting to make contact, they heard what they believed to be a single gunshot. At that point the CCPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Teams were called to respond.

HNT made numerous attempts to contact the male subject inside but never received a response. The SWAT Team carefully entered the house. Once inside they discovered that the 32 year old male was deceased. There were no other people inside the house. Officers are sill on scene at the time of this post.

A man trying to cash a stolen check at a bank, located at 800 North Shoreline Boulevard, was arrested by Corpus Christi Police.

Officers arrived after bank employees called to report a man in the lobby attempting to cash a check from a business in the amount of $700. The business listed on the check had called the bank to report the stolen checks earlier in the week.

After bank employees verified that the check was stolen, the man trying to cash it, Kenneth Collette (03/27/1980), was arrested for forgery.

Patrol Report 01/21/2016

A 29 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after he was hit in the head by another man while several people left a nightclub located at 5850 Everhart Road.

When Officers arrived they found the victim on the ground in the parking lot of the club with a cut to the back of his head. CCFD EMS responded and transported the victim to Spohn South for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses told Officers that the victim was on his way to his car, after the club closed, when another man, walking behind him, took a running start and hit him in the head with his fist.

The victim fell back and hit his head on the pavement causing the injury

At this time no suspects have been arrested and Officers continue to investigate this crime.

Police Remember Matt Thebeau

Corpus Christi Police Officer Matthew Thebeau was killed in the line of duty January 20, 2008 at age 25. Officer Thebeau was killed in a vehicle crash on State Highway 286 near Baldwin Blvd while responding to an assault in progress call at 2:50 in the morning.

Officer Thebeau’s patrol car struck a concrete wall and straddled the barrier for approximately 50 yards until it impacted an I-beam supporting a highway sign. He was ejected from the patrol car and then struck by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. He was transported to Spohn Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Officer Thebeau served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for two years and graduated from the 65th Academy Session. A park was dedicated and named in memorial to Officer Matt Thebeau and is located at 3221 Richmond Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410 near Up River Road and McKenzie Road.

The owner of a business, located at 4126 South Padre Island Drive, called Corpus Christi Police after three men broke in and stole several items.

Officers arrived and the owner told them that she had video footage from the stores security surveillance system that shows three males, all wearing masks, dark hoodies and gloves attempt to pry open the front door of the business.

When that attempt proves unsuccessful the three suspects move to the back door of the business and they are able to pry it open. Once inside the suspects removed several items and damaged the glass cases in the store.

The store owner is still calculating how much property was taken, but did estimate nearly $500 in damage was done.

Officers continue to investigate this case, and are working to try and get a copy of the video.

Man Poses As Store Employee To Steal TV

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a couple that they believe stole a television from a Wal Mart, located at 3829 Interstate 69, on January 13.

Camera surveillance images obtained from the store show a Hispanic male walk into the store through the front entrance wearing a blue Wal Mart vest and tan pants in an attempt to look like a store employee.

A female wearing a black and green striped top and blue jeans entered the store through the garden section.

The female posed as a customer while the male, dressed as an employee, got a dolly from the back storage area of the store and then loaded up a 60 inch Samsung LED television.  They both walked out the front of the  store without paying for the merchandise.

The stolen television was valued at nearly $1,000.

The couple got into a silver Dodge four door truck that was missing the front right fender.

The two suspects in this case have not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime. Anyone who recognizes this couple, their truck, or has information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840. Offense: Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a wreck after a man drove off the roadway and crashed his car into some bushes in the median in the 4500 block of South Padre Island Drive.

The crash investigation by Officers determined that the driver of a 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling west along the freeway access road when the driver lost control of his vehicle and ran into some oleander trees between the access road and the freeway.  The car came to rest facing the wrong direction and had a tire missing.

Neither the driver, Martin Venegas  Jr. (10/28/1986), nor his 11 year old son were injured.

After an investigation it was determined that the driver was intoxicated.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a felony, and his car was impounded.

The child was released to a sibling.

Detectives Investigating Homicide

A disturbance between two male cousins outside of a trailer home at 5902 Ayers Street left one man dead and another in the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just before 3:15 AM, Corpus Christi Police responded to the Misty Winds Trailer Park for a shooting. When Officers arrived they found a 26 year old man dead in the driveway next to a trailer.

Witnesses at the scene told Officers that a 32 year old male, cousin to the victim, had shot him after an argument between the two. After the suspect shot the victim in the head, he fled in his 2016 Chevrolet Silverado truck.  A description of the truck was broadcast to all Officers.

At 3:35 AM, an Officer working in the downtown area, observed the truck near the intersection of Power and North Chaparral Street. He was able to confirm that the truck he saw was the one involved in the shooting on Ayers Street.  The Officer followed the truck onto the Harbor Bridge, then North Beach and onto the Nueces Bay Causeway on State Highway 181.   The Officer did not attempt to stop the truck, because he did not have any Officers near to back him up.

As the Officer continued to follow the truck into Portland, other law enforcement agencies were contacted to assist. The truck continued through Portland, and into Gregory before other Officers arrived. In Gregory, the truck turned onto State Highway 35 toward Aransas Pass.  While on State Highway 35 and with the assistance of other Officers, an attempt to stop the truck was made. As the truck approached County Road 91A it veered off the roadway and rolled into a field knocking down power lines.  When Officers made contact with the driver of the truck, it was determined he had apparently shot himself in the head.

The suspect was transported by San Patricio County EMS to Spohn Memorial Medical Center and is in critical condition.
