A disturbance between neighbors over loud music led to one man going to the hospital and another to jail.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of an assault at a home in the 2900 block of Horne Road.  Once they arrived, a 52 year old male victim said that his neighbor was playing loud music.   When the victim decided to go to his neighbor’s house to ask him to turn down the music the neighbor refused to lower the music.

When the victim said he was going to call the police, he turned around to leave and was struck in the back of the head with a metal pipe. The victim was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital for injuries not believed to be life threatening.

Officers arrested the neighbor, Richard Garza (09/17/1968), for aggravated assault.  They also recovered the weapon used in the assault.

It is with deepest regrets that we must inform the community that our Chief of Police, Floyd Simpson, was involved in a motorcycle accident this afternoon in Port Aransas, Texas. Despite all efforts by medical personnel, Chief Simpson succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5:30pm today. Please keep his family and our officers in your thoughts and prayers.

More information will follow at a later time.

Floyd D. Simpson became Corpus Christi’s 22nd Chief of Police on March 12, 2012, following a distinguished career with the Dallas Police Department where he retired at the rank of Assistant Chief.

Chief Simpson brought extensive management experience, where as Assistant Chief in Dallas he oversaw both the Patrol and Administration Bureaus during his 25 year tenure.

Chief Simpson achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Amber University. He was a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute, the FBI National Academy, and the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. He served on the Executive Committee of Special Olympics Texas – Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Chief Simpson was married for 27 years and was the proud father of four children. Chief Simpson was an avid runner having completed four marathons, and also enjoyed riding his motorcycle during his few spare moments away from work.

Images Of Burglary Suspect Released

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a suspect they believe broke into the garage at a home located in the 3200 block of Ocean Drive on April 22.

The suspect made entry by cutting a lock on the outside of the garage. The suspect stole over $250 worth of property.

The homeowner was able to download surveillance video from his driveway camera system that captured images of the suspect and his vehicle.  The suspect is a male of medium build driving a newer model dark sedan.

The suspect in this case was not located and detectives need your help in identifying this individual.

The Corpus Christi Police Detectives and Crime Analysts believe there are four groups of individuals responsible and the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers recognize the violent nature of the crimes and have responded to offer the full cash reward for the arrest of each person responsible for these robberies. The four groups include: the people responsible for the robberies sometimes called “Juggings” in which men watched a bank and then followed customers to commit robbery at the bank customers location; the two men with dark colored skin who displayed a pistol and stole valuables from people; the two men (one with dark skin and one with light skin) who attacked area high school students; and two men with medium brown skin who committed robberies.

Corpus Christi Crime Analysts stated the quantity of robberies in April 2015 was slightly higher than average, but may be perceived by the public as a dramatic increase because the quantity of robberies in April 2014 was lower than average. Police Investigate Robbery at Weber & Holly

An 18 year old man reported an aggravated robbery at the 5800 block of Weber Road to the Corpus Christi Police Thursday afternoon.

The 18-year-old man told Officers he went to Panama and Weber to meet a person to sell shoes. The 18-year-old man told Officers he went to the 1800 block of Weber Road when an unknown man displayed a handgun and demanded the shoes and other valuables. The 18-year-old man told Officers the suspect took the shoes and left in a white four door car with three passengers, two other males and one female, and were last seen traveling west on Holly toward Carroll Lane. No injuries were reported.

The 18-year-old man provided a description of the suspects to Detectives and Officers are attempting to identify anyone involved.

Vehicle Auction This Saturday At Police Impound Lot

The city of Corpus Christi will auction 88 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the four paved acres of the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10:00am. The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, May 1. The general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00am to 10:00am on the day of the auction. The vehicle for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.

There are 21 vehicles for auction that were seized for no insurance. The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

A man was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he attempted to use a counterfeit twenty dollar bill to purchase food from a restaurant on Leopard Street.

The manager of the McDonalds called police after the man gave her a bill to pay for food.  The bill appeared to match some other fake bills the restaurant had accepted before that turned out to be counterfeit.

The manager was able to contact police while the suspect vehicle waited at the drive thru window.

Officers arrived and arrested, Nakia Jimenez (10/08/1974), for felony forgery.

A counterfeit detecting pen was later used to confirm that the bill was fake.

Town Hall Meetings Regarding Property Code

Since March of 2014, the Corpus Christi Police Department and Code Enforcement have looked for effective ways to address the blighted conditions in Corpus Christi. In reviewing the city’s current Southern Standards Property Code, it was found that Code Enforcement was currently operating under an outdated 1973 edition. In an attempt to bring the Corpus Christi Code Enforcement into current standards, we are working to adopt the International Property Maintenance Code (CCPMC), which incorporates “Best Practices” codes from around the nation.  While the CCPMC only has few new codes created within its text, the purpose of the CCPMC is to create a clear and concise set of codes, while eliminating the ambiguous wording which currently exists in the Southern Standards Code. In addition, the CCPMC will better work in conjunction with the already existing Unified Development Code and Unified Fire Code. The proposed CCPM has been placed on the Code Enforcement’s website for review. This site can be visited by logging into the City of Corpus Christi’s webpage at http://www.cctexas.com/ and select the city department tab to navigate to the Code Enforcement webpage. The Police Department will be hosting two town hall meetings to allow for comment on the proposed CCPMC.  Listed below are the dates, times, and locations:

  1. May 5, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.  – City Hall on the 6thfloor
  2. May 6, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. –  Lindale Senior Center, 3135 Swantner

It is our belief that a clear and concise property maintenance code will not only reduce community blight, but can also work to reduce crime by removing blighted conditions that attract crime.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a driver using a cell phone while driving and stopped the truck, only to find out the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Once the vehicle was stopped and the officer checked the license plate he was informed that the 1995 Ford F50 truck had been reported stolen from a home located in the 400 block of Vega Street back on April 9.

The officer was able to arrest the driver, Gregory Crissup (03/29/1991), for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a felony.

Also in the vehicle was a female passenger, Christi Gonzales (10/08/1994).  She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after methamphetamine was found in her purse.
