Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a vehicle that had driven off the boat ramp at Labonte Park and into the Nueces River. A 24 year old male told officers he was attempting to harm himself when he drove his 1983 Ford truck into the river.  When the truck began to submerge the man got out. Officers were unable to see the truck after it sank in the river.  The Corpus Christi Police Dive team will attempt to remove the vehicle sometime later today. The man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a burglary to the Bill Bode County Building located at 11408 Leopard St. Office workers arrived to find several doors that had been pried open and office desks ransacked. A safe was removed from a locked closet and taken to another office and pried open. It appears as though suspects made entry into the build through the front door.  At this time officers are still investigating this case and no suspects have been arrested.

National Night Out Tonight

Join the Corpus Chief Police Department for National Night Out, a drug and crime prevention event celebrated annually in our city. It’s a night for America to stand together to strengthen police-community partnerships and to promote awareness, safety and unity in our neighborhoods.

The Corpus Christi Police are encouraging citizens to celebrate National Night Out by organizing neighborhood events such as block parties and cookouts. Citizens can also participate by simply turning on porch lights between 6 pm and 10 pm.

Corpus Christi Police Officers and McGruff, the Crime Fighting Dog, will be visiting National Night Out events throughout the city.

A 26 year old female called Corpus Christi Police from a convenience store on North Beach and said that she was giving a ride to a male friend of a friend from the downtown area across the bridge. She said when they arrived at the store she went inside to buy something and when she returned her 2007 Ford Focus was gone. She said she went inside and had left the keys in the ignition with the vehicle running and the male inside. The suspect is described as a white male with two triangle tattoos on his face and he was last seen wearing a red shirt and black shorts. The female was given a ride home by officers.  A little while later, officers found her car parked and abandoned in front of an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Antelope St. Officers are still looking for the male who took the car for a joy ride.

The Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate two men involved with passing counterfeit bills Sunday at a convenience store located at 4202 Staples Street.

A 35-year-old man reported the counterfeit bill to the Corpus Christi Police and explained that while the 35-year-old man worked as a store clerk, a male customer attempted to purchase cigarettes with counterfeit money. The 35-year-old man refused to sell the cigarettes and the man left the store.

The suspect is described as a 20-year-old man about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds, and wore a white cap backwards, a black t-shirt with white lettering, black shorts, white socks and black shoes. The suspect was accompanied by a man who wore a black cap backwards, a red sleeveless shirt with a blue back to the shirt, black shorts, white socks and black shoes and spoke on a cell phone the entire visit to the store.

Anyone who can identify either of these two men should contact the Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives at 886-2841. Offense: Driving While Intoxicated       (PC 49.04 Third Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the 10200 block of Kingsbury Dr. for a crash involving a child on a bike. The investigation revealed that Amanda Clayton (11/19/1980) was driving her 1997 Ford F250 truck west on Kingsbury Dr. when an eleven year old boy on a bicycle cut across the street in front of her and she struck him. Witnesses at the scene told officers the truck was speeding down the street before the crash occurred. Officers determined that the female driver was intoxicated and she was arrested, for driving while intoxicated, a third degree felony, and her truck was impounded. The boy was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS for injuries to his hand.

The City of Corpus Christi Cunningham Water Plant located on Ripple Rd. was broken into and several hundred dollars’ worth of copper tubing and wires was stolen. City employees were checking on the old water plant and found that the lock on the front gate was on, but that it did not belong to the City of Corpus Christi.  After checking it was determined that no one with the city had changed the lock and the lock on the gate was put there by someone other than a city employee.  Once the lock was cut, and entry was made onto the property it was determined that nearly $1000 worth of copper wire and tubing had been removed from a building on the property.

An employee at a business located at 430 South Padre Island Drive reported that the front doors of the business had been pried open. Camera surveillance from the property shows two males driving a black truck pull into the parking lot, get out and look inside the front door with flashlights. They are then scene going to the side of the building and one of the men takes a rock and throws it at the camera that is recording them until it breaks. The suspects then pry the front doors of the business open and enter the showroom area. While inside the suspects steal grass trimmers, chain saws and a laptop computer. The estimated total dollar amount stolen was over $2,700 worth of property. Both suspects wore light colored shorts, ball caps and polo shirts.  Officers are in the process of reviewing the images from the security system in an attempt to identify the suspects involved, however, no arrests have been made.

Offense: Engage In Organized Criminal Activity       (PC 71.02 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Vice Officers executed a search warrant at a home located in the 5100 block of Williams Drive.  Due to the house being heavily fortified the Corpus Christi Police SWAT team was used to gain entry.  Vice Officers had conducted a lengthy investigation after complaints about the home were received by the police department. The investigation revealed that an illegal gambling operation was being run out of the residence. Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and once inside they recovered several television sets, a camera surveillance system, poker tables, poker paraphernalia, four guns and nearly $2000 in cash.  Mario Gomez (08/03/1976) was arrested and charged with engaging in criminal activity, a state jail felony and additionally charged with keeping a gambling place, promotion of gambling, and possession of gambling equipment, all Class A misdemeanors.  Kevin McGee (09/04/1986) was also in the house when officers went inside.  They found him to be in possession of marijuana and he was arrested.  Other people inside the home were identified by officers and at this time investigators are trying to determine if they will face any criminal charges.

Update to the Vehicle in the River

A 44 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after his car rolled into the Nueces River at Labonte Park. The man said he was attempting to turn around at the boat ramp and had stopped at the edge near the water. As he tried to back up, his white 2013 Dodge Challenger sedan began to slide into the river. The man was able to get out of the car and watched as it sank into the murky water about 30 feet from the shore.  The Corpus Christi Police Dive team is expected to try and recover the car on Thursday morning.

The CCPD Dive Team responded to LaBonte Park to start the process of recovering the submerged vehicle. The dive team utilized a sonar to pinpoint the location of the car. They found the car as well as a second vehicle. The dive team discovered that the second vehicle was reported stolen from Corpus Christi on August 5, 2014 (case# 1408050021). The dive team is in the process of recovering the Dodge Challenger at the time of this update.

Truck Crashes Into Batting Cage On Tiger Lane

The Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash with a fatal injuries on the 3600 block of Tiger Lane Wednesday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 4:42pm and discovered a black 2006 Ford F-150 in the batting cage on the grounds of Carroll High School. The Corpus Christi Fire Department Emergency Medical Services attempted to provide aid to a man in the truck, but determined the man died. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to process the scene.

Officers learned that the black truck collided with a parked, unoccupied vehicle on the 3600 block of Tiger Lane. The Officers believe the truck travelled west on Tiger Lane after striking the parked car and the truck struck a Nissan Rogue which was stopped at the intersection of Tiger Lane and Carroll Lane. The Officers believe the Ford truck then reversed at a high rate of speed from the intersection and into the batting cage near the intersection.

Officers learned that there were no injuries except the man who drove the Ford truck. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section documented the scene and gathered information from witnesses and collected evidence. The Officers had the 3600 block of Tiger Lane closed to vehicle traffic from about 4:30pm until after 7:30pm.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office collected the man from the truck and will conduct an evaluation to determine the cause of death. Investigators are in the initial stages of the investigation and urge anyone with any information about this crash to contact the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section at 886-2600.

The City of Corpus Christi will auction over 88 cars, trucks,  vans and  motorcycles at the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3. The general public can also  register and view the vehicles again from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on the day of the auction. The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from http://www.siskauction.com.
