Corpus Christi Police responded to a business alarm at 1:12am Thursday morning and discovered a burglary at 4101 Highway 77. A 53-year-old man arrived after the Officers and told Officers he is an employee of the business and reported medication taken from inside the business. Officers learned an unknown person broke the front door to the business to gain entry while the building was unoccupied and took the medication without permission. A store employee reviewed video and described the suspect to Officers as a person who wore a gray sweatsuit with a black hoodie, black hat, and a white cloth that covered their face. Police continue to investigate and the suspect has not been apprehended.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Justin Wilmont (9/7/1993) for burglary of a building Thursday at the 2700 block of Greenwood Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Wilmont walk on the sidewalk at the 2700 block of Greenwood Drive at 3:22am with a ceiling fan and extension cord. The Officer stopped Wilmont to investigate the unusual circumstance and discovered the fan and cord valued at about $300 dollars was taken without permission from a nearby apartment complex that is under construction. The Officer arrested Wilmont and delivered him to the city detention center for burglary of a building.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two women Wednesday morning for stealing Christmas decorations from homes on the 4700 block of Gayle Drive. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of two people in a dark colored Cadillac who stole decorations at 1:40am at the 4700 block of Gayle Drive Wednesday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped a maroon 1993 Cadillac Touring Sedan on the 5700 block of Killarmet Drive. The Officer saw several inflatable decorations in the back seat. A 52-year-old woman approached the Officer and explained the two women in the vehicle stole the decorations and identified the houses where the decorations belong. The Officer arrested 26-year-old Tara Speer (1/29/1987) and 31-year-old Deborah Harrison (7/2/1982) for theft. The decorations were returned to the owners. The Officer impounded the vehicle and delivered the two women to the city detention center. Speer was additionally charged with possession of marijuana for contraband found in the vehicle.

A 30-year-old man was seriously injured Thursday morning in a vehicle crash at Saratoga Boulevard and Staples Street. Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash with injuries at 2:10am. Corpus Christi Police Crash Investigators believe a white 2013 GMC Acadia driven by a 21-year-old man entered the intersection when a red light was displayed and struck a green 2008 Toyota Prius driven by a 30-year-old man. The Acadia and the Prius were only occupied by the drivers. The force of the impact caused the Prius to strike a black 2006 Nissan Altima occupied by five people.

The 30-year-old man was taken to the hospital with what Officers believe are serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The 21-year-old man was also taken to the hospital with what Officers believe are not life-threatening injuries. The five occupants of the Altima did not report any injuries. Crash Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this crash and continue to investigate. No arrests have been made and the two men remain in the hospital for medical treatment.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Benjamin Ireton (3/3/1992) for Robbery and for Resisting Arrest at a store at 1821 South Padre Island Drive Wednesday. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a robbery at 11:10am. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Ireton, who matched the description of the suspect, near the store. Ireton attacked the Officer before the Officer gained control and placed Ireton in handcuffs. A 24-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that Ireton took a toy valued at about $20 dollars and attacked the store employee when confronted about the shoplifting. The Officer delivered Ireton to the city detention center for robbery and for resisting arrest.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two people for aggravated robbery at a shopping center at 5488 South Padre Island Drive Wednesday. A 34-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that a man and woman stole clothes from a store in the shopping center and pointed a gun at the 34-year-old man when he confronted the suspect about the shoplifting. No injuries were reported.

Video surveillance was shown to Officers and a Corpus Christi Police Officer recognized the robbery suspect. The Officer went to the area of Mussett and Lotus and found the two robbery suspects. Officers discovered evidence of the crime and arrested 22-year-old Benjamin Elizondo (6/25/1991) and 19-year-old Emma Reyes (6/16/1994) for Aggravated Robbery. The Officer then delivered Elizondo and Reyes to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police Narcotics/Vice Investigators executed a search and arrest warrant at the 2500 block of Dunbar Street Wednesday.

Investigators went to a house on the 2500 block of Dunbar and executed a search warrant. During the search they discovered over $3000 in cash and 578 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $7,500 dollars. Investigators arrested Rebecca Alcala (6/3/1987) for possession of marijuana, a state jail felony.

Ruben Galvan (9/10/1991), was also arrested on a separate charge for possession of marijuana.

Hookah Lounge Murder Suspect Arrested

Patrick Mark Brailey, 29, was fatally injured Saturday, December 15, 2012 after a disturbance at the  Smokin Waves Lounge at 505 S. Water Street.  Further investigation revealed, a man at the gathering walked away from the crowd and discharged a firearm in the direction of the crowd, striking Brailey.  He would later die from his injury at Spohn Memorial.

Homicide/Robbery Detective Ralph Lee worked persistently on the homicide investigation and was able to obtain a murder warrant for Bacilio Rudy Hernandez (09/01/77) when he was positively identified as the shooter.

Hernandez who is a known gang member was arrested by Gang Unit Officers on December 3, 2013 at 418 Hiawatha.  He was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Murder.  His bond is set at $1,000,000.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating an aggravated assault on the 3100 block of Huisache Street in which a 15-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound Tuesday night. The 15-year-old girl told Officers she knew her attacker and Officers are searching for a 16-year-old boy believed to be responsible for the assault. No arrests have been made and Investigating Officers believe the 15-year-old girl will recover from her injuries.

Corpus Christi Police arrested three people for an aggravated robbery that happened on the 4500 block of Yolanda Drive and caused a nearby school to be placed on lockdown Tuesday. A 22-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man went to a house on the 3100 block of Yolanda Drive at noon Tuesday to sell car wheels. The potential buyer went inside the home and returned with two men armed with a handgun and took the wheels by force. Corpus Christi Police arrived and arrested 21-year-old Janet Ramirez (1/8/1992), 26-year-old Ricardo Green (1/5/1987), and 22-year-old Ira Roberts (12/31/1990) for aggravated robbery and delivered the three suspects to the city detention center.

Offense: Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer (Penal Code Section 22.02) 1st Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Nicolas Maxwell (7/6/1989) for aggravated assault on a peace officer after Maxwell attacked a Corpus Christi Police Officer at the bus stop at 5314 McArdle Road Tuesday afternoon. A Corpus Christi Police Officer responded to a complaint of a possibly intoxicated man in the roadway on the 5300 block of McArdle Road at about 4:00pm. The Officer found Maxwell at the bus stop who matched the description and approached to check the welfare of Maxwell. Maxwell grabbed a nearby brick and attacked the Officer by attempting to strike the Officer with the brick. The Officer arrested Maxwell and delivered him to the city detention center for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest. The Officer was not struck by the brick and was not injured in the event.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 19-year-old Ronald Dubuque (9/9/1994) for racing his red 2013 Chevrolet Camaro on the 5900 block of Weber Road at 11:26 am Tuesday. Dubuque was additionally charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Officer then delivered Dubuque to the city detention center.

Town Hall Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday Evening

In light of recent events that have occurred in the 3500 block of Lariat Lane and in the 5300 of Greenbriar, representatives from the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Charlie District (south side) Patrol Division will hold a town hall meeting. The meeting will be this Wednesday (12/4/2013) at the CC Country Club located at 6300 Everhart Road. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. All residents are invited to attend this meeting.

District Commander John Houston and Captain Ed Shannon along with staff will discuss the latest crime statistics for the areas of concern. In keeping with the mission of “Reducing Crime, Reducing the Fear of Crime and Enhancing Public Safety” this meeting will also include tips for safety of people and also of keeping homes secure.

New Year, New Ride! Join us for our Monthly Auction

On Saturday, January 4, 2014, a total of 109 cars, trucks, and motorcycles will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive during our monthly auction. The site has four paved acres for an auction lot.

Approximately 39 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds. On Friday, January 3, 2014, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. on January 5, 2014.   The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at www.siskauction.com. An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

During December 2013, Officers issued 439 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and impounded 76 vehicles for the same charge.  In 2013, a total of 7,114 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility were issued and 1,036 vehicles were impounded for the same charge.

A 58-year-old man reported a burglary to a building at 818 South Padre Island Drive to the Corpus Christi Police Monday. The 58-year-old man told Officers two men broke through a side wall to the business to gain entry into the building while it was closed and unoccupied and the two men took a large quantity of cigarettes. The 58-year-old man provided video of the event to Officers.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 41-year-old Michael King (3/12/1972) for felony theft at the Moore Plaza Shopping Center Monday afternoon. A 62-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police a shoplifter from a store in the Moore Plaza Shopping Center at about 3:30pm. The 62-year-old woman provided a description of the theft suspect and a Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped King who matched the description of the suspect. The Officer discovered evidence of the crime and arrested King for theft and for resisting arrest. The Officer then delivered King to the city detention center.

A 60-year-old man reported a burglary to his home located at the 3600 block of La Paz Drive to Corpus Christi Police Monday. The 60-year-old man told Officers someone broke the back window to his home to gain entry during the day while the house was unoccupied and the person took about $500 dollars worth of property from inside the home.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at Dabney and Staples Street when he saw a green 1993 Honda Civic drive on the road with an inoperable headlight. The vehicles stopped and the driver of the Civic, 29-year-old John Tamez (11/5/1984) exited the vehicle and approached the Officer. The Officer instructed Tamez to get back in the vehicle, and Tamez ran from the scene. Corpus Christi Police Officers chased and apprehended Tamez and discovered Tamez had an active municipal court warrant for his arrest. Tamez was arrested for the warrant for his arrest and for evading arrest. The Civic was taken to the city impound and Officers delivered Tamez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men at a convenience store Monday after Officers smelled burnt marijuana in the parking lot. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a theft at the store at 9:45pm. Officers smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana as they went into the store to address the complaint. The Officers then investigated the source of the odor and arrested 27-year-old Shamar Lindsey (7/29/1986) for a warrant for his arrest for Possession of Marijuana and Officers arrested 25-year-old Joshua Lindsey for possession of a controlled substance. Officers then delivered the two men to the city detention center.

Auto Burglar’s Identity Sought

Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Detectives are asking the public’s assistance to help identify an auto burglar who took several tools from a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The suspect can be seen driving up to the truck and removing the item the items from the toolbox.

Police Investigate Possible Burglary on Greenbriar

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a possible burglary of a habitation on the 5300 block of Greenbriar Drive. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a shooting at 10:33am and found a man outside of a home with injuries consistent with at least one gunshot wound. The injured man, who is not the home owner, was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment for what Officers believe are life threatening injuries. Officers contacted the 56-year-old home owner and found the home owner was not injured. Detectives believe they have accounted for all suspects in this event.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives and Forensics Lab Technicians arrived at the scene to gather information and evidence. The 56-year-old home owner and several witnesses were taken to Police Headquarters for interviews.  Police continue to investigate to determine if any criminal act was committed and what criminal charges may be appropriate. UPDATE:

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives have identified the shooting victim from 5300 Greenbriar as Dustin James Tate (07/03/84).  Tate died on the evening of  December 2, 2013 from his injuries sustained during the burglary.

Detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide.  They will also continue to investigate the original call for the residential burglary.  Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 39-year-old man for stealing a gold 1993 Chevrolet Suburban on the 900 block of Nandina Drive Sunday morning. A 22-year-old man made a complaint to the Corpus Christi Police at 1:07am that an unknown person stole his vehicle from the driveway of his residence. The 22-year-old man explained to the Officers that he heard the engine start to the Suburban parked in the driveway, and the 22-year-old man said he saw the vehicle back out of the drive, and leave. Another Corpus Christi Police Officer found the vehicle parked at a hotel on Leopard Street and arrested 39-year-old Donald Garcia for the Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. The Officer discovered evidence of other crimes in the vehicle with Garcia and continued to investigate. The Officers discovered there were three vehicles on the 900 block of Nandina which were the target of burglary and the radios were taken from each vehicle. Garcia was additionally charged for the burglaries to the vehicles.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 3 people Sunday for stealing over $1,500 dollars worth of merchandise from a retail store at 6101 Saratoga Boulevard Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a shoplifting complaint at 9:15pm. Officers were provided a description of the vehicle the suspects used to leave the parking lot. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw the suspect vehicle on Saratoga and conducted a traffic stop to investigate the suspects. A store employee told Officers the three suspects loaded carts full of merchandise and left the store without paying. The Officer discovered evidence of the crime and arrested 38-year-old David Delacruz (5/6/1975), 22-year-old Danny Cruz (10/23/1991) and 44-year-old Shirley Ybarra (10/10/1969) for theft. The merchandise was returned to the store, the vehicle was impounded, and the three suspects were delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Alexander Gonzalez (10/28/1987) for reckless driving on the 6700 block of Everhart Road Sunday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted surveillance on Saratoga Boulevard for aggressive driving and saw a white 2 door Acura Integra travel at a high rate of speed, rapidly change lanes, and cause an unnecessary risk to other  drivers on the road. The Officer arrested Gonzalez and delivered him to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a bicycle theft and discovered an injured 44-year-old man at the 4200 block of Ayers Street Saturday. Corpus Christi Police responded to aid a 44-year-old man with injuries to his face just before 1pm Saturday. The Corpus Christi Fire Department provided emergency medical assistance to the 44-year-old man while the Officers investigated a criminal complaint. A 50-year-old woman told Officers the 44-year-old man stole the bike and the owner chased the 44-year-old man. The 50-year-old woman told Officers the owner of the bike punched the 44-year-old man several times and took back the bike. The 50-year-old woman described the bike owner to Officers as possibly a professional bike rider with a professional style expensive bike. The 50-year-old woman told Officers the owner of the bike left the area and could not be found.

Officers discovered the 44-year-old man had a plastic bag with what the Officers believed to be marijuana. The 44-year-old man was taken to the hospital and then admitted for treatment of his injuries. The Officers placed the contraband in the evidence locker and generated a criminal complaint against the 44-year-old man for possession of marijuana and for theft.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a complaint of a person who discharged a firearm in the 600 block of 25th Street Sunday afternoon. Officers discovered a 17-year-old man suffered a minor gunshot wound to the arm after a confrontation with another man at the 600 block of 25th Street. The 17-year-old man went to the hospital for treatment.  Investigators continue to gather evidence and information to determine the facts of the case.

A 21-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that an unknown person stabbed him while he sat at a bar at 3206 Ayers Street Saturday night. The 21-year-old man told Officers the suspect approached him from behind and stabbed him with a knife and then the suspect ran outside to flee the area. A 35-year-old woman described the suspect to Officers as a Hispanic man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 160 pounds, and a blue and gray shirt.

Corpus Christi Police Officers noted one arrest related to shopping crowds on Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police arrested 25-year-old James Wilborn (11/17/1988) for public intoxication after he caused a disturbance at 5488 South Padre Island Drive at about 8:00pm Thursday night. No other problems were reported.

Texas Parking & Transportation Association Roundtable Comes to Corpus Christi

On Monday, December 2nd the Corpus Christi Police Department is sponsoring a Texas Parking & Transportation Association Parking Professionals Roundtable in Corpus Christi, TX at American Bank Center from 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

The Roundtable offers three sessions with parking industry experts speaking on Revitalization and the Dilemmas of Parking in Downtowns, ‘Green’ Parking Technology and Private-Public Partnerships, as well as networking opportunities during the catered lunch. The TPTA hosts an annual Convention & Tradeshow as well as three Roundtables that are held throughout Texas and usually offered in larger cities such as Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The TPTA is a parking industry association representing municipal, airport, university and private owned parking entities and programs throughout Texas, as well as technology and equipment vendors and various city transit systems.

The Police Department worked with the TPTA, Corpus Christi Convention Bureau, American Bank Center and the city’s Parking Advisory Committee in organizing the event. Preregistered attendees included numerous local organizations from municipal, airport, university and private owned and managed parking programs, as well attendees from organizations in Houston, Austin and San Antonio.

The Roundtable also brings in vendors that can assist all of these entities in technology, equipment, design and consulting services.
