Foul play suspected in man’s disappearance

The Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau is asking the public’s assistance in locating 27-year-old Cody Ryan Yarbrough who was reported missing on July 23, 2013.  Yarbrough’s girlfriend told Officers she last saw him on  Tuesday, July 23rd at 904 Parker’s Alley.  CCPD Case number: 1308160073.

Cody is a White male, standing 5’9″ feet tall and weighing 180 lbs.  Detectives and family fear foul play is a factor in Cody’s disappearance.

A 54-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that the business located at 831 Airline Road was the target of a burglary Sunday night. The 54-year-old woman told police an unknown person broke the glass door and stole money from the safe inside. Police are searching for a Hispanic male about 20 years of age, about 230 pounds and wore a red shirt, gloves and had a white cloth over his face.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the 1600 block of Nile Drive Monday night after a  black 2007 Ford Focus did not stop at a stop sign. The Officer arrested 19-year-old Roland Puebla 5/28/1994) for possession of marijuana and the vehicle was taken to the city impound.

A 30-year-old woman reported to Corpus Christi Police that an unknown man stole her purse at a convenience store at Kostoryz and South Padre Island Drive. The 30-year-old woman explained to Investigating Officers that she was asked for a cigarette from a man she does not know while she was at the store at about 10:13pm Monday night. The 30-year-old woman said she provided the man a cigarette and the man then followed her to her truck and then stole her purse.

The 30-year-old woman said the man left in a maroon Honda Accord. Corpus Christi Police found an unoccupied maroon 2008 Honda Accord at 12:16am on the 3700 block of South Padre Island Drive and found evidence of the theft inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the city impound and Police continue to search for a white male about 27 years of age, 5 foot 8 inches tall, 150 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes and has a cross tattoo on his left forearm.

A 19-year-old woman reported to Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person kicked in the front door to her home Tuesday morning and stole her television set valued at about $1,700 dollars. The 19-year-old woman said she was not home at the time of the event. Police collected evidence from the scene and are searching for the suspect in this case.

A 15-year-old girl was struck by a black 1995 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 36-year-old woman Monday morning in front of Ray High School. The 15-year-old girl was not in a crosswalk and the pickup did not travel faster than the speed limit in the active school zone. The 15-year-old girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries. No citations were issued. A Corpus Christi Police Officer checked the license plate of a gray 2004 Mazda hatchback that was stopped next to the Officer at a red light at Baldwin and Morgan Avenue. The Officer discovered the vehicle was stolen from Corpus Christi and the Officer stopped the vehicle. The Officer arrested 28-year-old Isidro Ramirez (10/28/1984) for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest, and for a warrant issued for Ramirez’s arrest out of New Mexico. Ramirez was delivered to the city detention center and the vehicle was taken to the city impound.

Public Invited to Town Hall Meeting

CCPD Town Hall Meeting

Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson has scheduled a Town Hall Meeting for Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 1201 Leopard Street. The public is invited to this open meeting to discuss the upcoming changes regarding police efficiency and revised police response to alarm calls without permits, minor crashes, barking dogs (animal calls) and child discipline issues. During the meeting there will be an opportunity for members of the audience to ask questions.

Chief Simpson will also discuss the proposed “distracted driving”  ordinance and the ongoing Aggressive Driving initiative.

A second town hall meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Del Mar Center for Economic Development, 3209 S. Staples, Room 106.

A 50-year-old man reported to Police he was stabbed as he walked to the Good Samaritan.  The man told Officers, three men confronted him and demanded his money.   Two men assaulted the victim, while the third man stabbed him.  The victim was able to walk to the Good Samaritan where CCPD and CCFD were called.  He was taken to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect who committed the stabbing is described as a thin Hispanic male, 28-31 years of age, and approximately 5’10” feet tall.   He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Police pulled over a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lane.  The driver Jody Salem (09/09/94) and the front seat passenger Joshua Ryan Mills (10/07/93) were arrested after a firearm and ammunition were found in the vehicle.

Mills was also found to be in possession of an assortment of medication not prescribed to him.  Both Mills and Salem were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  Mills additionally charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of an injury caused by a firearm Friday night at 6730 Everhart Road. Two 14-year-old boys were left alone in an apartment and they found a handgun. One accidentally shot the other in the right arm and caused a non life-threatening injury.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a burglary alarm at 5154 Ayers Street at 3:17am Saturday morning and discovered the building was the target of a burglary. Investigating Officers believe a man forced entry into the building at 3:17am, used a hammer to smash display cases to take over $4,000 dollars worth of jewelry and merchandise, and then leave. The suspect is described as a heavy-set male who wore a ball cap, long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a bandana that covered his face.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at Flynn Parkway and Corona at 2:19am Sunday morning after a tan 1999 Toyota Camry did not stop at a stop sign. The vehicle fled from the Officer and the traffic stop was discontinued. The Officer then discovered the Camry was involved in a vehicle crash with a parked car on the 3700 block of Bentwood Lane. The driver fled on foot and was apprehended by Corpus Christi Police Officers. Officers arrested 26-year-old Mark Gonzalez (4/7/1987) for Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest, and for Driving as an unlicensed operator.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Alec Martinez (9/7/1992) after he drove a black 2006 Lincoln truck through the intersection of Lipes and Cimarron without stopping at the stop sign and caused a crash with a gray 2004 BMW. Both operators of the vehicles were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A specimen of blood was collected from Martinez and he was delivered to the city detention center after he had a medical evaluation.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a suspicious vehicle at 5:45am Saturday morning at 6358 South Padre Island Drive. A person had called Police when they saw two men walk from the business to a white Ford F-150 through a hole cut in the chain link fence. The Officers discovered 27-year-old George Gonzales (3/29/1986) as he lay in the bed of the truck on top of bolt cutters. The Officers found property believed to have been taken from the business that had an estimated value of $3,600 dollars. The truck was discovered as stolen from Corpus Christi on August 21, 2013. Gonzales was arrested for Burglary and for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Officers found there was a second suspect involved, but the second suspect has not yet been apprehended. The second suspect is described as a bald Hispanic man about 20 years of age, 5 foot 11 inches tall, 190 pounds and wore a gray muscle shirt and cargo pants.

Gonzales was delivered to the city detention center and the stolen vehicle recovered.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating several burglaries on the 3800 block of Andrea in which the suspect forces entry into vehicle parked outside homes and uses the garage door openers left inside the vehicles to open the garage. The suspect then gains access to the habitations to steal valuables. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5foot 11 inches tall, 180 pounds and was seen with a plaid shirt, baseball cap, blue jeans and drove a newer model silver Ford pickup truck.

A 62-year-old woman reported to Corpus Christi Police that she returned home from church to find a bedroom window open.  Officers made sure no person was inside and the 62-year-old woman discovered that a 60 inch flat screen TV was taken.  The 62-year-old woman told Police that she had a master bedroom closet remodeled and that they have had contractors in their home for the past several weeks.  There was an estimated $1,500 worth of property taken from the home.

The 36-year-old man said he parked the car behind the business and left the keys under a floor mat in the unlocked car while he went inside to work. The 36-year-old man said a co-worker saw the Sentra drive away at about 7:30pm. Police are searching for the Sentra valued at about $5,000 dollars.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped at a convenience store and saw 28-year-old Ruben Sauceda (1/4/1985) sit in a green Ford Taurus and roll a cigarette. The Officer investigated the cigarette and discovered Sauceda rolled a marijuana cigarette. Sauceda was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and delivered to the city detention center.

Two 15-year-old boys with Ferdin were issued citations for curfew violation and released.

A 30-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person discharged a firearm at him while he drove his vehicle. The 30-year-old man said a thin Hispanic male who drove a green sport utility vehicle drove aggressively around the 30-year-old man’s vehicle and then shot a gun in his direction. The 30-year-old man had a 24-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl as passengers in his vehicle. No injuries or damage was reported. The suspect has not yet been apprehended.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash on the 10,000 block of South Padre Island Drive at 4:08am Friday morning. Police found a silver 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a 48-year-old man had drifted to the right of the road, struck a curb and a chain link fence which caused the vehicle to roll onto the side. The 48-year-old man said he was not injured and was fatigued. The 48-year-old man was issued a citation for making an unsafe change from a direct course and his vehicle was towed due to the damage. No other person or vehicle was involved and there was an estimated $1,900 dollars worth of property damage to the fence and a utility pole.
