Patrol Report 03/09/2016

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 800 calls for service and generated 213 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. March 8 to 7:00 a.m. on March 9, 2016. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

Employees of a restaurant, located at 4101 Leopard Street, notified Corpus Christi Police after they found that the front glass window of the business had a bullet hole through it.

Employees told Officers that they found glass pieces on the floor and tables inside the restaurant sitting area along with a piece of bullet fragment.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Damage to the restaurant was estimated to be $1000.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated

A driver was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she crashed her car into the back of another vehicle that was stopped at a red light in the 4800 block of Cedar Pass Drive.

Officers arrived and were told by a 19 year old man that he was driving his 2013 GMC SUV and was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Cedar Pass Drive and Everhart Road when he was hit from behind by a female driving a 2009 Toyota Tacoma truck.

Officers arrived and after an investigation determined that the female driver of the truck, Sandie Brown (05/31/1990), was intoxicated.

Luckily neither driver was injured.

The female was arrested for driving while intoxicated and her truck was impounded.

Location: 5900 Skyline Drive
Offense: Burglary

P.C.  30.02      Second Degree Felony

Case Number: 1603070030
An alert female passing by notified Corpus Christi Police of two men acting suspiciously after she saw them trying to cover up a large TV set while they were walking in the 5900 block of Skyline Drive.

Officers arrived and found the two men sitting near the road with a Samsung 50 inch Plasma television.  The two suspects tried to convince Officers that the TV belonged to them and that they were just carrying it to their home.

After an investigation, it was determined that the two suspects had entered a trailer in the 5900 block of Skyline Drive through a back window and removed the TV from one of the bedrooms.  The 51 year old home owner was contacted and he positively identified the stolen property as belonging to him.

Officers arrested both suspects, Aaron Spangenberg (07/09/1997) and James Zavala (07/30/1997) for burglary.

Offense: Aggravated Assault

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he was seen acting suspiciously around some vehicles that were parked in the 5900 block of Golden Canyon Drive, then during a struggle with the owner of the truck, stabbed him in the head with a box cutter.

Police were told that two men inside a home, a father and son, saw a suspicious man standing near one of their trucks.  When the father and son both went outside to talk to the man, he tried to run away.  Both men then attempted to detain the man, and a struggle ensued.  During the struggle, the 25 year old son, and owner of the truck, was stabbed in the back of the head with a box cutter by the suspect.

The suspect was then able to break free and he began to run down the middle of the street. That is when an Officer noticed the suspect running from the two men that were chasing him and he stopped to investigate.

Other Officers responding to the call were able to stop the suspect a street away on Nodding Pines Drive.

The owner of the truck told Officers that it did not appear as though the suspect actually broke into their truck.

The suspect, John Meza (07/31/1997), was arrested for stabbing the owner of the truck in the head.

The owner of the truck suffered a cut to his head and was treated at the scene by CCFD EMS.

Offense: Structure Fire

Case Number: 1603080012
Corpus Christi Police assisted the Corpus Christi Fire Department with a house fire in the 4400 block of Ramsey Street.

When Officers arrived they found smoke and flames coming from the living room portion of the home.  They attempted to make entry to into the home from the front and the rear prior to the arrival of CCFD.  Officers were unable to get inside because of the heavy smoke and flames.

The 77 year old home owner was later found dead by CCFD in the living room of his home.

At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Location: 4600 Ocean Drive
Offense: Drowning

Case Number: 1603070003
A boat carrying eight people capsized due to rough waters  in Corpus Christi Bay and killed a small child.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an apartment complex located at 4645 Ocean Drive after a female showed up at the front door of one the apartments soaking wet.  She told the women who answered the door that she had swam to the shore and needed help.

Police Marina Patrol, two fire departments, and the Coast Guard launched a water rescue effort and were able to rescue six people from the water.  Five of the six were transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

A four year old boy who as rescued and transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital was pronounced dead just after midnight.

A young female and an adult male are both still unaccounted for.

Suspect Swipes Cell Phone From Shopping Cart

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a man that they believe stole a cell phone from the shopping cart of a customer while he was at the Home Depot Store, located at 5041 South Padre Island Drive on February 2.

The customer, who didn’t realize his phone was missing at first, said that the suspect took the phone from his cart when he was not looking and then walked out and got into a grey vehicle.  Employees of the store were able to provide police with video images of the suspect from the stores camera surveillance system.

The suspect appears to be a Hispanic male, twenty to thirty years old with dark hair and glasses.  He was last seen wearing a pink polo shirt and black pants.  He was seen getting into the front passenger seat of an older model four door grey Chrysler 300 that left going east on South Padre Island Drive toward South Staples Street.

Patrol Report 03/04/2016

A 37 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after she was robbed at gunpoint by three suspects in the 400 block of Westgate Street.

The female told Officers that the three people, that she did not know, offered to give her a ride to the Nueces County Courthouse.  When she got in, the Hispanic male driver drove her to the 400 block of Westgate Street and stopped.  It was at this point, the driver produced a handgun and threatened the victim.  The victim told Officers there was another suspect Hispanic male and female in the truck.  They took the victim`s purse, cellphone and some cash while the driver pointed a gun at her.

The victim was released uninjured.

Officers continue to look for the suspects that were in a black Chevrolet Silverado truck.

At this time, none of three suspects have been identified.

A 21 year old man was dragged by a vehicle, driven by his girlfriend, after an argument between the two in front of a home in the 2800 block of Martin Luther King Drive.

A male witness called Corpus Christi Police to report that he saw a man being dragged by a black Kia two door car along the Interstate 37 access road near Nueces Bay Boulevard.

Officers arrived and found the victim, who had suffered several cuts and bruises, to his upper body, along the side of the road.

The victim told Officers that he was sitting in the passenger seat of his girlfriend’s car, with the door open, arguing with her about some money he had given her.  She was sitting in the driver seat and the car was running.

The victim told Officers, that his girlfriend stepped on the gas, and took off at a high rate of speed causing him to partially fall out of the passenger side door.  The man said his leg got caught in the door, and he could not get loose.  The girlfriend continue driving, dragging him down the access road.

The boyfriend said his leg finally got free and he rolled to the curb, and his girlfriend continued on in her car without stopping to check on him.

The 19 year old girlfriend was not located.  Officers were provided her name and she could face aggravated assault charges.

The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS to be treated for numerous injuries.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he caused a disturbance in a bar, located at 2816 Ruth Street, and then attempted to stab the female bar tender with a cork screw opener when she asked him to leave.

Officers arrived and were told by the female bartender that the man had come into the bar on several occasions and caused disturbances.  When he entered the bar this evening, she told him that he could not stay there due to his past behavior.

The bar patron got mad when he was told to leave, and he pulled out a cork screw opener from his pocket that had a knife on it.  The man lunged at the bartender attempting to cut her with the weapon and she was able to kick him. The bartender suffered only a minor scratch to her face from the cork screw and was not seriously injured.

Officers arrived in time to arrest the bar patron, Ricardo Hernandez (06/08/1986), for aggravated assault.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated

A driver was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she crashed her car into the back of another vehicle while in the drive thru line of a restaurant located at 5530 Everhart Road.

Officers arrived and were told by a couple that they were stopped in their Nissan Altima in the drive thru lane when a 2007 Dodge truck hit their car from behind.   Officers were called when the couple suspected that the female driver of the truck was intoxicated.

Officers arrived and after an investigation determined that the female driver of the truck, Andrea Reyna (01/26/1994), was intoxicated.  She was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.

The manager of a business called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at work to find his office and four rental cars in the parking lot had been broken into.

Officers arrived at the car rental business and were told that suspects had entered an office on the property through a side window.  Once inside, the suspects went through a filing cabinet and a tool box.

Before leaving the property, the suspects opened four rental cars that were parked in the parking lot.

At this time it is unknown what the suspects actually stole from the business.

Officers are still investigating this crime and no arrests have been made.

A 22 year old women was robbed of her cell phone and assaulted in front of a restaurant in the 6000 block of Sarazen Drive.
Officers arrived and were told by the female victim that she was walking up to the front of the restaurant when another female approached her and started hitting her. The victim tried to defend herself against the attack and had her cell phone stolen.

The victim, who is thought to have suffered a broken nose, was transported to Spohn South by CCFD EMS.

Officers are attempting to use the restaurants video security system to help them in this case.

At this time no suspects have been arrested.

Offense: Injury to a Disabled Person

Corpus Christi Police arrested a female after she assaulted her boyfriend who is confined to a wheel chair and has part of a leg amputated.

Officers arrived at a home in the 200 block of Mexico Street and found a 52 year old man in a wheelchair with blood on his face.  He told Officers that his girlfriend, Melody Rabb (06/05/1979), had hit him in the face several times after he refused to give her some money.

CCFD EMS responded to the home and treated the victim.  He suffered cuts to his face around his right eye.  The eye was also swollen shut.

Officers arrested the girlfriend for injury to a disabled person, a second degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he pointed a gun at several family members inside a home in the 7100 block of Gingerberry Drive.

Officers arrived and were told that the man, Nicholas Kuntscher (01/21/1993), arrived home intoxicated and was fighting with his girlfriend.  His mother and sister attempted to intervene in the disturbance and he assaulted his sister.  She was pushed across a room in the house, and broke her ankle.

The suspect then pried open a locked closet that had several guns inside and grabbed a handgun.  He was unsuccessful in loading the weapon due to his intoxicated state.  He then attempted to grab a second handgun from the closet when he noticed Officers were arriving.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect as he was attempting to exit the home through a window.  He was charged with several counts of aggravated assault.

The suspects 17 year old sister was transported  by CCFD EMS to Spohn South Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

A 52 year old man reported that his vehicle was stolen out of his driveway in the 12700 block of Leopard Street and inside the truck was a handgun.

The man told Officers that he parked his 2012 Ford F250 truck in front of his home and came outside to find it missing.

Inside the truck was a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Officers later found the truck abandoned in the 2800 block of Buffalo Street.  The weapon was not located.

So far in 2016, 26 firearms have been stolen from vehicles in the city and only 6 of those have been recovered.

A 47 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after her husband opened a can of gasoline and started pouring it on their home in the 900 block of Shepard Drive.

Officers arrived at the home and could smell a very strong odor of gasoline outside of the house.  The female explained to Officers that she and her husband were having relationship problems and he grabbed a gas can containing fuel from the back of the home and walked to the front pouring gas on the outside of the house and threatening to burn it down.  The female also told Officers that her husband had a lighter in his pocket to ignite the gas.

Officers found the husband, Todd Headen (02/19/1969), in a back bedroom with gasoline on him.  He was arrested for making a terroristic  threat, a Class B Misdemeanor.

Patrol Report 02/29/2016

Offense: Hit and Run

Corpus Christi Police are investigating who ran over a 34 year old man in the 2500 block of Niagara Street and then left the scene without stopping.

Officers arrived and found the man lying in the middle of the street.  He had several cuts and bruises to his head and face.  He was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

Witnesses told Officers that they saw a young female, who was screaming, get out of a beige Chevrolet Tahoe and walk over to the man.  They then saw her get back into her vehicle and drive off toward Baldwin Boulevard.

The victim did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

Officers are still looking for the driver that struck the pedestrian.

A man, who was watching over a neighborhood in the 5900 block of Fire Creek Drive, called Corpus Christi Police after he saw a suspicious male loading up property from a neighbors garage.

Officers arrived and found the suspect standing next to his truck loading up power tools that he had removed from the detached garage of a home.  When Officers went to investigate they found that the suspect had loaded up over $1,470 worth of property from the garage into the bed of his truck.

The suspect, Aaron Deleon (09/14/1993), was arrested for burglary.

Also in the bed of the suspect’s truck Officers found other items that did not belong to the resident on Fire Creek Drive.  An air compressor was recovered by Officers and they are still investigating whether this property was also stolen.
