A 31 year old male walked into Spohn Memorial Hospital after he was stabbed in the forearm Hospital staff notified Corpus Christi Police and the victim told officers that he was at a home behind the HEB Store located in the 3500 block of Leopard Street when two males started fighting.  The victim said he attempted to break up the fight and ended up getting stabbed in his left forearm.  Once he was cut the fighting stopped and another unknown person present at this house gave him a ride to the hospital emergency room.  The victim could not provide officers with any suspect information or an accurate address of the assault. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Protect It or Someone May Steal Your Stuff

The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to inform citizens about auto burglaries occurring in the city.    With the upcoming summer months, and the possibility that friends and family may visit our city and stay at local hotels, the police department wants to pass on information that it has gathered during the month of May.

 From May 1 to May 27, there have been 69 reports of auto burglaries at hotels and motels citywide.

Auto burglaries are occurring in hotel and motel parking lots every day of the week.  On the average there are more than 2 reported every day.

78% of the auto burglaries occurred between 6 PM and 2 AM.

42% of the time the victim’s vehicle was unlocked.

Miscellaneous power and work tools are by far the most targeted items taken from vehicles.  The second most common items taken are personal devices such as cell phones and laptops.  Followed by purses, wallets and backpacks.

50 of the 69 vehicles targeted were trucks.
24 were Ford F-series
16 were GMC / Chevrolet
5 were Toyota Tundra
5 were Dodge Ram

The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to warn our citizens that these types of crimes are occurring in our city.  The department does have strategies it plans to implement to address these crimes but we also ask that citizens do their part in protecting their property.

Please be sure to always hide belongings from view.

A female called Corpus Christi Police and reported to them that her boyfriend had assaulted her and held her against her will at a motel for three days.

Officers arrived at the motel, located at 5300 Leopard Street, and found the 24 year old female.  She told them about being hit several times in her face and head by her 30 year old boyfriend.  She also told them that she was not allowed to leave the motel for three days, and that he had prevented her from calling 911 for help.

Officers did not observe the female victim to have any injuries.

The female also told officers that the male had left the motel with his mother.

Other officers in the area spotted the mothers vehicle with the man inside traveling on Interstate 37.   Once they stopped the car, they brought the man back to the motel to be identified.

While officers were investigating this case, the female told them that she had made up the entire story just to get the man put in jail.

Officers arrested the female, Tracie Rios (10/08/1990), for making a false report to police, a Class B Misdemeanor.

The man was released at the scene.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a business after a man, armed with a knife, entered the store and demanded money.

The store clerk told officers that a Hispanic male, about 6’0” tall wearing a striped shirt, came into the Ace Mart, located at 4750 Leopard Street and threatened him with a knife.

The male suspect was not able to get any money from the business, and then fled on foot.

At this time no suspects have been arrested, and officers continue to investigate this case.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol was driving by a restaurant, located at 10309 Leopard Street, and observed the drive thru window to be broken out.

He stopped to investigate and could see movement inside the business.  Other officers arrived and surrounded the business.  They were able to convince the suspect to exit the restaurant and took him into custody.

Officers arrested the suspect, Charlie Zamarron (12/15/1994) for burglary.  He was additionally charged with resisting arrest when he refused to get into the patrol car to be transported to jail.  Charges of possession of a controlled substance were also added when a pill was found in his possession.

The owner of the restaurant was contacted and he came to the location and secured the broken window.

Two Suspects Use Brick To Enter Store

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of two suspects that they believe broke the front glass door of a Stripes Store, located at 5702 South Alameda Street,  and went inside.

The two male suspects used a brick to break the glass and entered the business that was closed. One of the suspects goes to the beer cooler and takes 2 twelve packs of beer.   The second male runs behind the counter and takes two packs of cigarettes.   Both suspects then exit the front door through the broken glass of the front door.

Both suspects appear to be Hispanic males.  One of the suspects was in a green shirt and black jeans. He attempts to use his shirt to cover part of his face while standing at the cooler.  The second suspect, who is standing at the cigarette shelf, was wearing a black shirt with graphics on the back, blue jeans and a black baseball cap turned backwards.

The suspects in this case have not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime.  Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840. Corpus Christi Police Officer Discovers ATM Scam

A Corpus Christi Police Officer’s keen attention as he used the automated teller machine at a convenience store Friday afternoon may have caused him to avoid becoming a victim of Credit Card Abuse.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer used the ATM machine at a store located at 5202 Interstate Highway 37 Access Road at 2pm Friday afternoon and noticed the plastic piece was loose when he slid in his ATM card into the machine. The Officer thought the piece was not seated properly and suspected the piece may not have been placed by the manufacturer and then the Officer pulled off the plastic piece which confirmed his suspicion. The Officer also noticed an additional piece above the card slot and discovered a camera. The Officer notified the store employees and the bank which owns the ATM. The bank sent a technician and confirmed to the officer that the two pieces the Officer discovered were not part of the machine. The Officer and store employees searched the store video and believe they have images of two suspects who placed the items on the machine at about 11:40am that day. The Officer took the two pieces to place in the evidence locker along with the copy of the video for Financial Crimes Detectives to investigate.

The suspects are two males and a more specific description may be provided at a later time after certain witnesses may be interviewed and Detectives attempt to identify the suspects. Meanwhile, the public is urged to conduct a careful review of ATM statements and notify their bank of any possible fraudulent charges. Anyone who used the ATM machine at the store at 5202 IH 37 Access between 11:40am and 2:00pm should pay careful attention to their bank statements and contact the Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives at 886-2840.

To reduce the risk of this type of criminal activity, the public should have the habit of using the same ATM machines in order to be familiar with the machine and recognize when there are alterations to the machine they use. Never rely on the help of a stranger to retrieve a confiscated or stuck ATM card. Do not use an ATM where people loiter nearby. Beware of ATM machines with an unusually large amount of warnings or signs as those may conceal extra parts used for scams. If you use an unfamiliar ATM, it is best to use one in a building such as a bank, and look over it carefully for any parts that may be “add ons” and not installed by the manufacturer. If you notice any alterations to the ATM, notify the local law enforcement agency right away.

Zahn Rd Closed Due To High Water

The Corpus Christi Police Department has closed Zahn Road on Padre Island due to high water.  This is the main access road that leads from State Highway 361 onto the beach just past the Packery Channel bridge.  Zahn Road will be closed until further notice.  Anyone that wants to access the beach will be directed to the Newport Pass access road that is less than a mile down State Highway 361.  If the high water recedes the road will be reopened.

Corpus Christi Police were called after a male suspect attempted to steal 19 pairs of sunglasses and a couple of shirts from the Premier Yamaha Shop located at 7601 South Padre Island Drive.

Once outside, the male suspect attempted to flee the store, but was chased down by several store employees. He was held for a while, but he managed to escape by running across the freeway and into an apartment complex.

The male suspect dropped all of the property he was attempting to steal but left behind the motorcycle he drove up on.

Officers arrived at the store, and while they did not find the suspect, they did impound the 2003 Yamaha motorcycle.

The store employees told officers that the value of all the merchandise that the suspect attempted to steal was over $1000.

Officers continue to investigate this case, however, at this time no suspects have been arrested.

Financial Crimes Detectives Raid Home

The Corpus Christi Police SWAT assisted Financial Crimes Detectives from the Police Criminal Investigations Unit with a search warrant at 4837 Williams Drive early Thursday morning.

A search warrant for the home was obtained after detectives received information that a counterfeiting operation was using the location.

SWAT officers secured the scene and handed over the home to detectives investigating the case.

Inside the home officers found two females and a male. The male suspect inside, Johnny Valle (08/23/1982) was determined to have an outstanding arrest warrant for probation violation.

Detectives recovered drug paraphernalia and a set of blank check stock inside the home. Other items seized inside the home included prescription pills, bags for packaging narcotics, several pipes, and a scale.  Detectives will also be investigating a security camera system, and computers found at the location.

The male suspect was arrested for the outstanding warrant.  The two females were identified and released.
