Case Number: 1408260042
Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the Access Ford car dealership located at 3680 Interstate 69 for a theft of vehicle parts. The general manager told officers that four of his vehicles had their catalytic converters stolen sometime during the overnight hours. All four vehicles were white 2015 Ford F250 Super Duty trucks which were parked on the north side fence line of the dealership. Each catalytic converter is valued at $5,000 for a total loss of  $20,000.  At this time this case is still under investigation and there is no suspect information.

A 25 year old male called Corpus Christi Police after his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint by a male while he was pulled over on Leopard St.  The victim said he was driving west on Leopard St. near Cantwell St. when he pulled over to fix his radio.  It was then that he was approached by a hispanic male in a red shirt that had tattoos on both arms, short cropped hair, and he was clean shaven.  The suspect produced a black semi-automatic pistol and pointed it the victim’s chest and told him to get out of the car. The suspect got into the victim’s car and drove away towards Interstate Highway 37 on Cantwell St.  The vehicle is described as a silver in color 2007 Ford Mustang. The victim was given a ride to his residence on Omaha St. by officers. Officers are still looking for the suspect in this case, and the vehicle has not been recovered.

The owner of a business located in the 4500 block of Ayers Street was called by his alarm company that something had set off his alarm.  The business owner drove over to check the alarm and noticed the front glass door was broken and he then called Corpus Christi Police.  Video from inside the business show a  suspect that has his face covered by some type of cloth breaking the front glass door with an unknown object.  The suspect walks into the business towards the cash register and opens the drawer and removes cash from inside. The suspect then exits the business though the smashed front glass door. The business owner told officers that there was nearly $300 dollars in the cash register, and he estimated the front glass would cost about $300.00 to repair. The business owner is in the process of making officers a copy of the video surveillance.

A 43 year old female victim called Corpus Christi Police after a male she knew punched her in the face after they had a verbal argument.  The female victim was found with facial injuries and was transported to the hospital by CCFD EMS.  The female gave officers a name and description of the offender and they located him not to far away. Gerald Freeman (01/28/1969) was arrested for aggravated assault, a second degree felony.  The victim injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

A 33 year old male victim told Corpus Christi Police Officers that he was threatened with a gun after he offered to tell some males a joke for a quarter.  The victim said he was walking in the 600 block of N. Chaparral St. when he saw five males together outside of a bar. When the victim offered to tell a funny joke in exchange for a quarter the five males began to argue with the victim.  He ran to the Greyhound Bus Station, and called police.  Before police could arrive the victim had to leave because the five males were walking up. The victim went to a bar located in the 400 block of Starr Street and again called police.  Two of the five suspects caught up to the victim outside of the bar, and one of the suspects Juan Luna (08/16/1975) told the other suspect he was with Ashby Lopez (12/29/1994) to shoot the victim.  The victim said Lopez pulled out a black 9 mm handgun, pointed at him, and cocked the trigger.  Luna encouraged Lopez to shoot the victim however, he did not, and they both fled on foot.  Officers responding to this call were given a description of the vehicle that the suspects left the scene in by several witnesses. Officers located all five suspects in a 2001 brown Mercury Marquis sedan driving down Mesquite St. and took the two suspects into custody.  The other three males were identified and released. Officers impounded the suspect’s vehicle, and during the inventory process they located a cocked handgun under the rear seat. Both suspects were charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony.

Offense:  Possession of Dangerous Drugs   (HS 483.041    Class A Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to 9512 S. Padre Island Dr. the Car Wash Company for a male passed out in his vehicle in one of the stalls.  Officers found Mark Towler (02/10/1982) sitting in his 1999 Mazda Miata with the windows open and sweating profusely. CCFD EMS responded to check out the male, and when he stepped out of the car several blue tablets fell to the ground from his lap.  The male did not have anything to indicate that he was the recipient of a prescription for the medication and he was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs, a Class A misdemeanor and his car was impounded.

Masked Man Removes Cash

OFFENSE: Burglary of a Building    (PC 30.02        State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers took a report for a burglary to a business located at 8001 Interstate 37 South, C.C. Freightliner Inc.  Suspects appeared to have made entry onto the property after cutting a hole in the back fence, then the suspects made entry into the shop by knocking out a back window.   The shop foreman told officers they locked up the shop on 08/08/14 around 11:10 p.m. and when they returned on 08/09/14 they found the window broken, the one cash registers on the counter in the shop had been broken into and cash removed.  A second registered was opened in the front of the business and rifled through but there was no cash inside.  The estimated damage to the property and value of items stolen was almost $1000.  Video images captured from the business show a male, 5’6” to 5’8” tall , heavy set, wearing a mask, gloves and a tan baseball cap.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2840. Location: South Padre Island Drive / Weber Road
Offense:  Driving While Intoxicated                        (PC49.04        Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police responded to a major accident at S. Padre Island Dr. West Access and Weber Rd. Upon arrival officers found one of the vehicles involved on fire. One of the drivers involved was identified as Amy Jimenez (07/23/1990) and she was found sitting in a nearby parking lot. Witnesses told officers that she was driving a red Lincoln MKZ sedan west along the access road and ran a red light and struck a 2009 black Toyota Corolla going north on Weber Rd. After the collision the red car caught fire. The female driver was found to be intoxicated and she was arrested, and charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor.   The 29 year old female driving the black Toyota was taken to Spohn MMC by CCFD EMS and treated for minor injuries.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Corpus Christi Police Officers were responding to a report of a man walking on the freeway and were advised that he was possibly staggering. Three minutes later the call was upgraded to a accident involving a pedestrian. Officers and medics arrived and located the 25 year old male victim who was deceased. The victim was struck by two vehicles. Both vehicles stopped and the drivers were checked by officers. The drivers of those vehicles will not be charged in this accident. Follow up investigators shut down the West bound lanes to safely investigate this incident.

Shooting on 2900 Easley

UPDATE:

Detectives informed us that CDC Jail Booking Jesus Ruben Balli Garcia was booked into CDC late Sunday evening on the warrant for Aggravated Assault. 

UPDATE: 

At approximately 7:00 pm our office was notified that a man fitting the description of Jesus Ruben Balli Garcia (10/28/88) was being detained by Border Patrol agents. Agents informed us that the man had become lost in the brush near the Sarita Checkpoint and called 911 for help. The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) officers were able to locate him. At approximately 10:00 pm USBP officers confirmed to our office that the person they had detained was Jesus Garcia.  He was arrested on the Aggravated Assault warrant and taken to the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives continue to work with the USBP and the Kenedy Co. Sheriff’s office regarding the case.

Grand Theft Auto In A Five Points Parking Lot

A 45-year-old female reported to officers that her truck was stolen from the parking lot of the Chili’s Restaurant located at 4120 Highway.  Video images show a light silver-colored older model four door passenger vehicle pull into the restaurant parking lot, and a male with a white t-shirt, long tan shorts, a tan cap black shoes with white socks get out and walk to the front of the restaurant. A short time later he returns to the back of the parking lot and opens the passenger side door of the victim’s truck, slides across and drives off through the Home Depot parking lot. The silver-colored car which was parked behind the victim’s truck then pulls out behind the stolen truck and follows it out.

An employee at a business located in the 1400 block of Cliff Maus Drive told Corpus Christi Police that sometime around 11:40 PM on August 20, a suspect drove up to the front gate and cut the lock. Once on the property, the suspect went to the garage and attempted to cut the padlock to the door.  After failing to cut the lock the suspect left the property only to return later that night at about 2:15 AM, on August 21.  The suspect then removed a pick ax from one of the parked company trucks on the property and used it to pry open the garage door enough to gain entry.  The suspect stole five grass trimmers, a pole saw and a hedge trimmer. The total damage done and price of the equipment stolen was valued at over $3,500.

Auto Theft Task Force Recovers Stolen Items

OFFENSE: Search Warrant Executed

The Corpus Christi Police Department Auto Theft Task Force executed a search warrant at 1717 Nile Drive at about 10:30 AM.  Detectives learned during investigations into several burglaries in the city that there was stolen trailers and other equipment at this home and were able to obtain a search warrant.

Detectives found two trailers, two cement spreaders, two compressors, a welder, and other equipment in the backyard and garage of the home.  No one was found in the home. Detectives hope to have arrest warrants issued regarding this case once the investigation is complete.

The Auto Theft Task Force believes that the property recovered today has an estimated value of between $60,000 and $65,000.

Ruth St. Murder Update

UPDATE:

The continuing investigation revealed that additional individuals were possibly involved in the Homicide.  Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Division located and arrested Gilbert Perez Jr. (07/12/94) for Murder on Wednesday evening. Additionally, they obtained arrest warrants for Albert Suarez Jr. (05/28/95) and Edward Elizondo (08/06/95).

This morning, US Marshals arrested Albert Suarez Jr. in Corpus Christi. As of this posting, Edward Elizondo is still outstanding.

The investigation continues.

UPDATE: 

On Saturday, August 9th 2014, Detectives with the Homicide Division obtained an arrest warrant for Jessie Salazar (10-02-1995).

Detectives were informed that Salazar had turned himself in to the Nueces County Jail on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m. His bond was set at $250,000.00

LOCATION: 2200 Ruth Street
OFFENSE: Murder (PC19.02 First Degree Felony)

At 6:39 AM, Saturday morning, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at a home located at 2222 Ruth Street.

A 15 year old male called police after he went outside of his house and saw a man lying on the ground. Officers found a 29 year old male victim down a driveway on the east side of the house underneath the stairway leading to an upstairs apartment. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was dead at the scene.

Officers were able to contact several witnesses who heard gunshots in the area at about 10:00 PM on Friday night. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call for shots fired at 10:08 PM on Friday night in that area and did recover an unfired bullet, and at this time it is unknown if that evidence is related to the homicide. Officers did not see the victim at that time due to the darkness and the victim’s position.

At this time Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detective are investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.
