Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a woman who stole money from a wallet at a store in Calallen on December 13, 2015.

A 59-year-old woman reported her wallet lost to Corpus Christi Police at about 5pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015. The 59-year-old woman told Officers she placed the wallet on the counter in the garden center of the store located at the corner of Northwest Boulevard and Interstate Highway 69 when she completed the transaction, then walked away leaving the wallet in place by mistake. The 59-year-old woman told Officers she returned to the counter and the wallet was gone and the clerk denied having seen the wallet.

Officers viewed store surveillance video which showed a woman who was in line behind the 59-year-old woman pick up the wallet, leave the store with the wallet, but then returned to the same check out counter to return the wallet. When the 59-year-old woman was provided the wallet, her cash was gone from the wallet.

Corpus Christi Police are now investigating this event as a crime and would like help from the public to identify and locate the woman who took the wallet. The woman who took the wallet is described as an adult woman with medium brown skin, and she wore a pink long sleeve “Browning” brand sweatshirt, dark pants and tennis shoes. The video shows the woman as she goes through the wallet before she returned the wallet with no cash. The woman then left in a silver four door passenger car with missing hubcaps on the right front and right rear tires of the vehicle.

Officers Arrest 2 For Firing Guns On New Years Eve

Corpus Christi Police made two separate arrests for people celebrating the arrival of the New Year by firing a gun into the air.

At about 11:25 PM Officers responded to a home in the 11200 block of Willowood Creek Drive after reports came in that a man was firing a .12 gauge shotgun into the air. When Officers arrived several witnesses told them that they saw a man come out of his home and fire shots from a shotgun into the air.

Officers contacted the homeowner, Justin Weldy (03/19/1987), and arrested him for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor. He was additionally charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, when the illegal substance was found in a pocket of his shorts.

The shotgun was tagged as evidence.

 

Just after midnight, Corpus Christi Police responded to a home in the 700 block of Eleanor Street after a man was seen in the driveway of his home firing a handgun into the air.

Officers arrived and found Robert Obregon (12/16/1986) in possession of a .9 millimeter pistol and 11 shell casing along the driveway of his home. He was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city, a Class A misdemeanor, and his handgun was recovered as evidence.

 

A 43 year old man was lucky he was not seriously injured when a shot went through his home and struck him in the torso.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the home, located in the 4200 block of Easy Street just before 9:30 PM, and when Officers arrived they were told that a bullet came through the kitchen window and hit the homeowner who was sitting inside in the stomach. Luckily, he was not injured by the bullet.

Officers believe the shot came from an open field near the home, where gunfire had been heard earlier in the evening.

At this time, Officers have not located the person they believe is responsible.  It is unknown if the shot was fired by a hunter or if someone celebrating the New Year fired the gun.

Officer Involved Shooting

On December 21, 2015 at approximately 10:19 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of 14600 Red River Drive in reference to a report of shots being fired.

Offices arrived and were informed by a citizen that there was a male inside the house and he had fired a round. As officers were responding to the residence, the female victim came out and advised the officers that there was a man inside the house with a gun. She also stated there were two children under the age of ten inside the house with the suspect.

As officers were securing the scene, the 21 year old male came out of the home with a gun in his hand. Officers began communicating with the suspect and gave orders to drop the gun. The suspect refused and pointed the gun at the officers. The officers fearing for their life fired their weapons striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to Spohn Memorial with non life threatening injuries.

One officer from the Corpus Christi Police Department and one officer from Nueces County Sheriffs Department were placed on administrative leave during the investigation. CCPD will be conducting the investigation working closely with NCSO.

At this time the suspect faces charges of aggravated assault family violence and attempted capital murder.

A 49 year old female was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra truck north on Interstate Highway 37 just past Rand Morgan Rd. yesterday about 3:40 PM. The driver lost control of her vehicle and drove off the roadway, down the embankment, struck the center support pole of a highway sign, continued through a concrete culvert, jumped the access road, landed on a bridge guard rail, and then rolled down an embankment and into Turkey Creek. The truck came to rest on the driver side well off the roadway. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening thanks to her seatbelt.

A boyfriend and girlfriend were arrested by Corpus Christi Police after the two were caught breaking into a vehicle in the 1000 block of Miramar Place.

Officers arrived and were given a description of the two by witnesses who saw the suspects enter a 2006 GMC Envoy and remove property from inside.

Francis Reza (08/27/1998) and Raul Medrano (04/29/1993) were both arrested for burglary.

The stolen property was returned to the owner.

A wanted person who tried to hide under a house in the 700 block of Sam Rankin Street, to evade capture, was arrested by Corpus Christi Police.

An Officer, working for the RTA, was at the bus stop in the 1400 block of Leopard Street when he recognized Javier Cantu (04/11/1982) and knew he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to register as a sex offender.   When the Officer went to detain the wanted person he ran away on foot down Sam Rankin Street towards Antelope Street.

Officers found the man trying to hide from them underneath a house on Sam Rankin Street and he refused to come out.   Corpus Christi Police SWAT and HNT Officers responded to the scene and were able to talk the man into coming out from under the home and he was arrested for the outstanding warrants and for evading police on foot.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a drive by shooting at an apartment, located in the 2200 block of Carolyn Drive.

When Officers arrived they found that an apartment had been struck by two bullets in a rear bedroom wall.  The two bullets penetrated the apartment wall and were both lodged near a closet in the bedroom.   A parked 2001 Ford Expedition SUV had also been struck once shattering a passenger side front window.

It is unknown how many shots were fired at the apartment, but none of the four people inside were injured.

Witnesses told Officers that the shots were fired from a silver sedan that was seen passing by on the street at the time of the shooting.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

An employee of the Family Dollar Store, located in the 1500 block of South Port Avenue, called Corpus Christi Police after a man armed with a screwdriver robbed the business.

Officers arrived and were told by the female store clerk that a heavy set Hispanic male with a short fade haircut and light colored hoodie jacket entered the store demanding all the money from the cash register. When the clerk did not give the suspect any money he ran around the counter to retrieve the cash himself.

The clerk pushed the panic alarm button under the counter and the suspect exited the store.

At this time no arrests have been made.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the 8000 block of Yorktown Boulevard after a man that was walking in the roadway was hit by a vehicle.

When Officers arrived they found that the 30 year old pedestrian had been struck by the 2013 Chevrolet truck had been killed.

Traffic Officers responded and the crash investigation revealed that the man was walking east on Yorktown Boulevard when the truck, also traveling east, struck him from behind and killed him.  The driver of the truck told Investigators that he did not see the man in the roadway until it was too late. Other witnesses also told Officers that they saw the man dart into the path of other vehicles before he was hit.

While investigating this case, Officers determined that the driver of the truck, Joseph Palmatier (01/27/1982), was under the influence of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

At this time Traffic Officers continue to investigate this case and the driver has not been charged with any crimes in regards to the crash with the pedestrian.

A 27 year old mother on her way to buy diapers for her six month old son was attacked by a female who wanted her prescription pills.

The mother called Corpus Christi Police and told them that she was on her way to the HEB Store, located in the 3500 block of Leopard Street., pushing her child in a stroller.   The mother said she was approached by the female suspect who asked her about the pill bottle she was holding in her hand.

When the mother refused to talk to her, the suspect hit her on the right side of her face with her fist.  The two began to fight over the pill bottle and during the struggle the baby stroller was knocked over with the child inside.  The female suspect then produced a knife and the mother relinquished control of the pill bottle.  The bottle was full of hydrocodone pills that were prescribed to the mother to help her recover from a recent back surgery.

The child was not injured, but the mother was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The female suspect fled on foot.  She was last seen wearing a black Marilyn Monroe t-shirt, cut off shorts and black tennis shoes. She has several tattoos, including a tear drop near her eye.
