Patrol Report 05/22/2015

The Corpus Christi Police Department generated 209 reports for formal criminal complaints from midnight May 21 to 7:00 a.m. on May 22, 2015. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

Corpus Christi Police were called after a male suspect attempted to steal 19 pairs of sunglasses and a couple of shirts from the Premier Yamaha Shop located at 7601 South Padre Island Drive.

Once outside, the male suspect attempted to flee the store, but was chased down by several store employees. He was held for a while, but he managed to escape by running across the freeway and into an apartment complex.

The male suspect dropped all of the property he was attempting to steal but left behind the motorcycle he drove up on.

Officers arrived at the store, and while they did not find the suspect, they did impound the 2003 Yamaha motorcycle.

The store employees told officers that the value of all the merchandise that the suspect attempted to steal was over $1000.

Officers continue to investigate this case, however, at this time no suspects have been arrested.

Special Operations On Beach Begin Today

The Corpus Christi Police Department will begin special operations for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend later today.

The overtime assignment will bring seven additional officers to Padre Island starting today through Memorial Day.  The extra officers will  work  from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m everyday.

The officers will meet at the Tortuga Dunes Island Substation and be available to assist Memorial Day weekend crowds that want to enjoy the beach.

Free Child Safety Seat Inspection

In conjunction with the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign, the Corpus Christi Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation are teaming up this weekend to focus on properly buckling up and keeping Texas’ youngest passengers safe.

As part of the campaign’s special enforcement period, which begins May 18 and runs through May 31, there will be a free child safety seat inspection at the Corpus Christi Police Island Substation located on Mustang Island at the corner of Zahn Road and State Highway 361.

This event is taking place this Saturday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detectives secured a directive to apprehend for a 16 year old male suspect they believe was involved in the cities latest homicide.

At about 4:30 PM, Thursday afternoon, police returned to the apartment complex located at 1010 Behmann Street, and located the juvenile male at an apartment where he lived.

Police had already arrested Santana Rodriguez (07/17/1993), late Wednesday afternoon for aggravated assault. The 48 year old male victim that was hit in the head several times died at about 3:00 AM on Thursday morning at Spohn Memorial Hospital.

The juvenile is believed to be the second male that they believe may have been with the victim and the suspect at the time of the assault.

The juvenile was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

Patrol Report 05/14/2015

A 24 year old female victim fought off an attack from a man in the parking lot of a south side nightclub.

The female told officers that she was walking to her truck after separating from her friends in the parking lot of a club located at 5702 South Staples Street.

Once at her truck, a male suspect grabbed her from behind and shoved her into her truck. The victim said he ripped her shirt as she fought him off. She continued to fight the male and was able to get away from him.

She was able to drive away from the scene and call police.

The victim was treated at Doctors Regional Hospital for her injuries.

She did not know the male but saw that he was wearing a button up shirt, blue jeans, and boots with a khaki visor or hat.

Officers continue to investigate this crime. At this time no suspects have been arrested.

Flour Bluff Man Dies In Fist Fight

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight call at the Aztec Manor Apartments and found a man there with a head injury.

The victim would not cooperate with officers and refused to say what had happened. A witness told officers that the victim was walking behind the apartment complex with two men when he was punched in the head numerous times with a fist of one of the other men.  The witness believed the assault was over drugs.

The victim was transported to Bay Area Hospital by CCFD EMS. Two hours later, the victim was transferred to Spohn Memorial Hospital due to his injuries not improving.

When the victim took a turn for the worst, police detectives were notified. While investigating this case, a suspect was identified and located at the apartment complex.

The suspect, Santana Rodriguez (07/17/1993), was arrested for aggravated assault. Officers continue to look for the second man that they believe may have been with the victim and the suspect at the time of the assault, but do not believe he was involved.

Just after 3:00 AM, detectives were notified that the victim had died at the hospital due to his injuries.

Police are expected to upgrade the charges on the suspect this morning.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the parking lot of a business located at 4717 South Padre Island Drive after several people reported a man was destroying cars parked at the business.

Officers arrived and located four vehicles that had been damaged. One had a smashed windshield and damage to its hood. Witnesses told officers the man had jumped onto the hood of the car and kicked out the windshield with his foot.

Two other cars were also located with broken windshields and yet another had a broken back window and damage to the driver’s door.

The male suspect fled on foot prior to police arrival. Other officers found him a short time later near an apartment complex on Corona Drive.

Officers arrested, Jordan Hammons (07/12/1995), who was thought to be high on synthetic marijuana.

The suspect caused approximately $2,500 in damage to the four vehicles.

The owner of a business located at 4551 Violet Road called Corpus Christi Police after he was notified by his alarm company that his restaurant was broken into.

Officers arrived and reviewed the video surveillance from the business which showed a suspect enter the building by force.  The suspect is seen running straight to the cash register and taking it with him. The suspect also emptied a second registered of its cash before leaving the location with register in hand.

The suspect then leaves the location on a bicycle.

The suspect is described as being a white male wearing a black shirt, shorts, and white baseball hat.

Officers continue to investigate this case and have not made an arrest in this case.

A female roommate came home to find her belongings outside of her apartment that she shared with two other females.

The female got upset and began kicking the front door of the apartment. When no one inside opened the door, she stopped kicking and left the area. A few minutes later the females inside the apartment heard gunshots in the parking lot.

Corpus Christi Police were called and they arrived and found three shell casings. One of the roommate’s vehicle had two visible holes in the front windshield and one in a front tire.

Officers did not located the female that fired the shots, but have identified her.

Damage to the 2003 Dodge Neon was estimated to be nearly $500.

Employees from the JC Penny Store called Corpus Christi Police after they observed a female putting items in her handbag and a shopping bag.

Officers arrived at La Palmera Mall and were told that a female suspect concealed several jewelry items and then passed all points of sale making no attempt to purchase the items.

Officers arrested the female, Angela Alvarado (01/20/1985), for theft.

Store employees recovered over $500 in merchandise that the female had attempted to conceal.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol ran a license plate on a vehicle that he saw in the 4900 block of Greenwood Drive and found it be stolen.

The officer was able to stop the  stolen 2009 GMC truck and take the driver, Andrew Brunkenhoeffer (12/06/1979),  into custody. 

He was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, and he was additionally charged with possession of a firearm, a Class A misdemeanor when a revolver was found in the truck.

The truck had been reported stolen from a home located in the 800 block of Ester Drive on April 17.

Patrol Report 05/07/2015

Corpus Christi Police became aware of a wanted person that was in a vehicle in the Flour Bluff area.

Officers observed the man in a 2013 Ford F150 truck traveling north in the 2300 block of Retta Drive.  The officers pursued the truck for several blocks until it turned onto the 1100 block of Graham Road and it veered into a vacant field.  The truck drove through a fence in the field before its rear wheels got stuck in the sand.

Officers arrested the suspect, Doreteo Garcia (05/10/1977), on a federal warrant for probation violation for possession of dangerous drugs.  He was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, a third degree felony, after a handgun was found in a backpack.

Also in the backpack were a pair of brass knuckles and two plastic bags that contained narcotics.
