A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation at the intersection of Leopard Street and Westchester Drive.

Once the officer was able to stop the 2007 Ford Escape, it was determined that the driver had been drinking earlier in the evening.

After an investigation, the driver, Kerri Lewis (11/26/1971), was found to be intoxicated.  He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a third degree felony.

Mother Arrested After Child Found Outside

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call at 1430 Yucca Court regarding a child found alone.

A 25 year old female was coming from visiting a relative who lives on Yucca Court when she saw a 6 year old girl standing outside yelling for help. The women said she found the child at about 9 AM and she spent about an hour looking for the child’s mother. When she went inside the child’s apartment she found no adult inside. She also saw that the apartment was very dirty.

The women waited for about 45 minutes to see if the mother would return, and she did not. The women then contacted police just after 10 AM.

When officers arrived the child told them that her mother left her alone this morning and told her that she was going to the store. While officers were investigating this case, the mother drove by at 10:45 AM. When the mother saw police outside her home, she sped away. She was stopped by officers just down the street.

The mother, Kassandra Ann Vargas (06/14/1967), was arrested for endangering / abandoning a child. Child Protective Services arrived and took custody of the child and the apartment was secured.

A female store owner called Corpus Christi Police after her store was robbed by a man with a knife.

Officers arrived at the New City Market, located at 6236 McArdle Road, and were told by the store owner that she and her 21 year old daughter were both working at the store when a male suspect wearing a black hoodie, black mask, blue jeans and armed with a large knife came in.

The suspect walked inside took out the knife and told the daughter to get the money.  The daughter ran to the back and called for her mother who went to the cash register and opened it.

The suspect took cash and ran out of the store toward the neighborhood behind the store on foot.

Neither female was injured.

Officers did not locate the suspect, and continue to investigate this crime.

Suspect Bolts with Stolen Ring PIO2

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a suspect that they believe stole a diamond ring from the Wal-Mart Store located at 3829 Interstate 69 Access Road.

The white male suspect wearing black shorts, tennis shoes, a red t-shirt and a ball cap walked into the store and asked an employee if he could see a ring from the display case.  When the employee handed the man the ring to look at, he ran out of the store with the merchandise.

He was last seen leaving the parking lot in an older model tan Chevrolet suburban.

The store valued the ring at $195.

The suspect in this case has not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime.  Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840. It didn’t take burglars very long to use a stolen credit card they took from a purse that was inside a parked car.

A 30 year old female victim called Corpus Christi Police after she parked her 2013 Dodge Journey at a business located at 3922 W. River Drive just before 7:30 PM and when she returned about an hour later she found the back passenger side window had been broken out.  The female said her purse was stolen from inside of the vehicle and in the purse were bank cards, her social security card, and a checkbook.

When the female called her bank to report the stolen items, she was told one of her credit cards had been used at a Stripes Store in Robstown to purchase $197 in merchandise at 8:15 PM.

At this time no suspects have been identified, and officers are investigating possible video surveillance at both locations.

Firearms Stolen In Auto Burglaries

The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to inform citizens about auto burglaries occurring in the city and victims  having their  firearms stolen from inside their vehicle.

From January  through the end of May this year, the police department has investigated 68 reports of burglaries that involved a firearm being stolen from inside of the vehicle.  Only 14 of those 68 guns have been recovered.

While there was a sharp decrease in the number of cases from April to May, the Corpus Christi Police Department wants to warn our citizens that these types of crimes are occurring in our city and remind them to  protect their weapons and keep them out of the hands of criminals.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the Refuge of Hope located at 4035 Violet Road for a burglary.

Officers arrived and the Director of the facility showed them to a rear window that had been broken out.   Once inside, the suspect went through every room in the building opening drawers and doors and ransacking an office.

Several televisions, laptop computers, a document scanner, and a large amount of diapers were stolen. The Director estimated that there was about $5,000 in stolen office items and another $800 damage done to the building.

At this time no suspects have been arrested, and officers continue to investigate this case.

Do You Know These Two Guys

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of two suspects they believe put a skimming device on a store ATM machine.

On May 22, a Corpus Christi Police Officer using  the automated teller machine at a convenience store located at 5202 Interstate Highway 37 Access Road  noticed the plastic piece on the face of the machine was loose when he slid in his ATM card.    The Officer was able to pull off the plastic piece which confirmed his suspicion. The Officer also noticed an additional piece above the card slot and discovered a camera.

The Officer notified  the bank which owns the ATM and  they sent a technician to the location and confirmed to the officer that the two pieces the Officer discovered were not part of the machine.

Store employees searched the store video surveillance system and found images of two suspects who placed the items on the machine at about 11:40 AM on May 22.

The two suspects in this case have not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime.  Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Financial Crimes Detectives at 886-2840. Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at the Dockside Surf Shop located at 10306 South Padre Island Drive.

After arriving officers found a back door to the business had been kicked open.

The suspects stole skateboards, t shirts and other items from the store.

At this time no suspects have been arrested.

Corpus Christi Police responded to Mary Carroll High School to assist the CCISD Police after several people broke into the school and vandalized the property.

CCISD Police and school officials arrived and found confetti, balloons, silly string, shaving cream,  spray paint and banners all throughout the building as well as a vending machine that was tipped over and broken. The vandalism to the building was estimated to be about $500 and the amount needed to replace the vending machine was estimated about $900.

As many as 16 people were thought to have been a part of the crime.

This case is being investigated by CCISD Police.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer parked his police car in the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot for a meal break.

While inside the officer was approached by a citizens who told him that a vehicle had ran into his parked patrol unit. The officer went outside and observed a blue Kia Spectra had struck the passenger side door of his patrol car.

The driver of the Kia was identified as Christopher Miesen (09/29/1980).

After an investigation officers determined that the Kia was traveling south on Eighteenth Street and came across the four lanes of Morgan Avenue and into the parking lot of the restaurant striking the parked police car.

The driver was determined to be intoxicated and he was arrested.

A traffic stop led Corpus Christi Police to a wanted man who was in possession of several Texas Identification cards belonging to others.

An officer stopped the 2001 Mercedes Benz for an illegal turn in the 4900 block of Holly Road.  When officers contacted the driver they found he had three outstanding warrants for his arrest all for theft.

Officers arrested the driver, John Villegas (07/09/1973).

While they were impounding his vehicle, officers found four small bags of heroin.  In the suspect’s pocket, officers found three identification cards belonging to other individuals.  One of the persons had made a report to police on May 22 about being a victim of identity theft.

The suspect was arrested and charged with the outstanding warrants, possession of a controlled substance, and fraud.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the 5500 block of Saratoga Boulevard after a vehicle hit a utility pole knocking several power lines down into the roadway.

Officers determined that a red vehicle had come down the wrong way on Saratoga Boulevard and attempted to turn around. The vehicle went into a business parking lot at a very high rate of speed and side swiped the pole knocking it down.

A passing semi-truck then drove down Saratoga Boulevard and clipped the downed power line. This knocked out all the power to the area including the intersection of Staples Street and Saratoga Boulevard.

Saratoga Boulevard in both directions was closed for just over five hours while the lines were repaired.

A 25 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after he was assaulted following a road rage incident.

The victim told officers he was traveling north on Ennis Joslin Road attempting to turn left on to South Alameda Street when a dark blue truck drove up next to him and tried to run him off the road. The victim was forced off the road and into a driveway in the 6000 block of South Alameda Street.

The driver of the blue truck exited his vehicle armed with a hammer and approached the victim who was getting out of his car.  The man approached the victim and pinned him up against his vehicle. The man tried to swing the hammer at the victim but he was able to block it.  The man then looked at the victims license plate and stated, “this isn`t over yet.” then left the scene.

He was last seen driving away in his truck and is described as being between 40 and 50 years old.  Officers were not able to locate the suspect.

Officers are also investigating whether a second call, from a different person, regarding a road rage incident with a blue truck made just prior to the victim calling,  is related to this call.

A disturbance between roommates resulted in one being treated for head injuries and the other in jail.

A 50 year old male victim walked into Spohn Shoreline Hospital with a large cut to his head.  Corpus Christi Police were called to investigate and they determined that the victim was asleep inside an apartment located at 4443 Ocean Drive when his roommate woke him up complaining about trash left in the kitchen.  The roommate grabbed the victim by his feet, pulled him out of bed and pushed him outside.  He then shoved him down a flight of stairs causing the injuries to the victims head.

The victim was given a ride to the hospital by a friend who also lives in the apartment.

Officers returned to the apartment and arrested the roommate, Liovel Granado-Gonzalez (05/28/1963) for aggravated assault.

It was also later determined that the victim suffered fractures to his lower neck and broke his left wrist during the fall.  He was transferred  to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to 14049 South Padre Island Drive, The Oceans Treasures Souvenir Shop for a glass break alarm.

When officers arrived they found a shattered window on the west side of the shop.  It appears that the suspects used the shattered window to gain entry into the business. Once inside the shop, a display counter containing sunglasses was forced open.

Owners of the business arrived and told officers that nearly 40 Costa sunglasses and accessories appeared to be stolen. The value of all the sunglasses taken was estimated to be $8000 and damage to the business was thought to be $1000.

At this time officers continue to investigate this case and no suspects have been arrested.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash in which a vehicle struck a building.

Officers arrived and found a silver Chevrolet Silverado truck still at the scene.  The truck had crashed into a business located at 1314 South Staples Street, the Hill Country Prosthetics and caused heavy damage to the building.  The driver of the vehicle had left his truck and fled the scene.

Two witnesses that observed the crash told officers that they saw the truck traveling north on South Staples Street.  The truck swerved, lost control and then crashed into the building.  They then saw the male driver, who was wearing a blue shirt and dark pants, exit the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.

The driver was not located and the truck was impounded.
