City To Auction 124 Vehicles Saturday

The City of Corpus Christi will auction 124 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the Police Vehicle Impound Lot, located at 5485 Greenwood Drive, on Saturday, March 5, 2016. The auction will start at 10:00 am.

The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016. The general public can continue to view the vehicles from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on the day of the auction.

The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.

A 47 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after her husband opened a can of gasoline and started pouring it on their home in the 900 block of Shepard Drive.

Officers arrived at the home and could smell a very strong odor of gasoline outside of the house.  The female explained to Officers that she and her husband were having relationship problems and he grabbed a gas can containing fuel from the back of the home and walked to the front pouring gas on the outside of the house and threatening to burn it down.  The female also told Officers that her husband had a lighter in his pocket to ignite the gas.

Officers found the husband, Todd Headen (02/19/1969), in a back bedroom with gasoline on him.  He was arrested for making a terroristic  threat, a Class B Misdemeanor.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating who ran over a 34 year old man in the 2500 block of Niagara Street and then left the scene without stopping.

Officers arrived and found the man lying in the middle of the street.  He had several cuts and bruises to his head and face.  He was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

Witnesses told Officers that they saw a young female, who was screaming, get out of a beige Chevrolet Tahoe and walk over to the man.  They then saw her get back into her vehicle and drive off toward Baldwin Boulevard.

The victim did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

Officers are still looking for the driver that struck the pedestrian.

Police Serve Search Warrant on Brennan Street

Corpus Christi Police arrested two people and seized evidence and currency from a house on the 1900 block of Brennan Street Friday morning.

The Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics and Vice Investigation Division executed a search warrant at 1902 Brennan at about 8:30am on February 26, 2016. Investigators seized 4.5 ounces of powder cocaine, 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine, 2 grams of methamphetamine, and approximately $7400 in US currency.

Investigators arrested 32-year-old Rickey Reyes Flores (2/15/1984) and 29-year-old Veronica Ybarra (8/7/1986) for Manufacturing/ Delivery of Control Substance, a first degree felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

A man, who was watching over a neighborhood in the 5900 block of Fire Creek Drive, called Corpus Christi Police after he saw a suspicious male loading up property from a neighbors garage.

Officers arrived and found the suspect standing next to his truck loading up power tools that he had removed from the detached garage of a home.  When Officers went to investigate they found that the suspect had loaded up over $1,470 worth of property from the garage into the bed of his truck.

The suspect, Aaron Deleon (09/14/1993), was arrested for burglary.

Also in the bed of the suspect’s truck Officers found other items that did not belong to the resident on Fire Creek Drive.  An air compressor was recovered by Officers and they are still investigating whether this property was also stolen.

Police Raid House on North Staples Street

The Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division served a search and arrest warrant at 313 N. Staples at about 12:18 pm today.  This warrant was the result of an investigation into the sales of synthetic cannabinoid in the area of City Hall.  This residence had been indicated as a possible major supplier to the dealers in the area.

During the warrant, NVID investigators seized 880 grams AGW of synthetic cannabinoid, about 4 grams of methamphetamine, and a half an ounce of hydroponic marijuana.  They also seized $630.00 in cash believed to be the proceeds of illicit drug sales and a .25 automatic pistol.

Arrested in the warrant were the following:

Jeffery Mahrenholz, Jeffery (10-24-74), charged with Possession of Marijuana (BM)

Juanita Rosas, (12-1-90), charged with Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2A over 400 grams (1F enhanced), Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 between 1 and 4 grams (2F), and Possession of Marijuana (BM)

Ricardo Gomez (12-3-83),  charged with Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2A over 400 grams (1F enhanced), Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 between 1 and 4 grams (2F), and Possession of Marijuana (BM), and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

As the residence backed up to a school, all the above charges will be looked at for enhancement for occurring in a drug free zone.

Directed Patrol Officers assisted in the service of the warrant and in bringing code enforcement to check out the location at the conclusion of the warrant.

Video Captures Man Breaking Into Business

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a man that they believe broke into a business, located at 525 South Carancahua Street, in the early morning hours of February 20.

Employees of the business did not discover the break in until workers arrived on Monday morning.

Police were able to obtain images of the suspect from security cameras on the property.

The suspect took quite a long time to pry open and make entry through a front window of the business just after 3 AM. After being inside for a short time, he then is seen hurriedly making his escape through the same window.

The suspect is believed to be a large white male between 5`8″ to 5`10″ tall. He was last seen wearing a short sleeve shirt and dark pants.

A 21 year old man is in the Intensive Care Unit of Spohn Memorial Hospital after he crashed his truck into a tree in the 4400 block of Pontchartrain Drive.

Corpus Christi Police arrived and found the driver unconscious sitting in the driver’s seat with the vehicle`s engine running.  CCFD arrived and had to extricate the driver from his truck.

A crash investigation revealed that the driver was traveling on Pontchartrain Drive when he lost control of his 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe and struck a tree knocking it down.

During the investigation, Officer determined that the driver was intoxicated.

The driver was taken to the hospital by CCFD EMS and he remains there for treatment.  When he is released Officers expect to file driving while intoxicated charges against the man.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating whether six different cases of vehicles having windows shot out by a BB gun are related.

All of the crimes occurred around the same area with the suspects using a BB or pellet gun to shoot out windows and windshields of parked vehicles.

Two trucks and a car had glass shot out in the 3600 block of Harold Drive.  Another vehicle parked in the 3700 block of Harold Drive had a side window shot out.  A van parked in the 3800 block of Harold Drive had a side window and its rear windshield shot out. A car parked in the 4600 block of Kasper Drive also had its rear glass shot out.

At this time Officers do not have any description of the suspects involved and are hoping if any home owners in that area have security cameras that caught images of this crime, they will contact police.

In all, the estimated damaged to all vehicles was reported to be nearly $2,500.

A female was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she ran down her husband and another female with her Jeep causing a crash at the corner of Laguna Shores Road and Glenoak Drive.

The man told officers that he and his wife had a disturbance earlier at their home in the 3000 block of Jamaica Drive.  He said he wanted to leave, so he called a friend.  The female friend picked him up from the home and as they attempted to leave, the wife chased them in her Jeep.  The man said that his wife intentionally rammed the Cadillac he was a passenger in and subsequently ran his female friend, who was driving,  into a utility pole at the corner of Laguna Shores Road and Glenoak Drive.

The wife attempted to run from the scene, but Officers caught up to her a short distance away.  The wife, Kelly Soranka (01/13/1992), was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault.

The pole was snapped in half and traffic on Laguna Shores had to be shut down for a short time.   AEP was called out to replace the pole.

The 25 year old female friend had to be taken by CCFD EMS to Bay Area Hospital for injuries she suffered in the crash.   The 44 year old husband refused any medical treatment.

Corpus Christi Police Officer Pulls Man to Safety After Fiery Car Crash

A Corpus Christi Police Officer pulled a 29-year-old man to safety Monday evening after the man was involved in a vehicle crash on the turn ramp from State Highway 358 and State Highway 286.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer witnessed a green 1995 Chevy Suburban travel west at a high rate of speed on the South Padre Island Drive freeway and take the turn to travel south on the Crosstown Expressway. Officer Jon McGinley arrived shortly after the crash and immediately noticed that the car was on fire.  The Officer then went to the vehicle, broke the window with his baton, and pulled the 29-year-old man to safety before the fire fully engulfed the vehicle.

Several witnesses helped the Officer, but they left the scene without providing their information. The 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The ramp was closed to traffic for over an hour until the vehicle was towed from the scene.The Corpus Christi Police have no charges against the 29-year-old man at the time of this post.pastedImage

A crash in a convenience store parking lot left one brother in jail and the other in the hospital.

Corpus Christi Police were called after the driver of a 2002 Ford Explorer drove his vehicle into a pole that protects the gas pumps at the Star Market located at 4045 Ayers Street.  There was major damage done to the SUV but luckily the gas pumps were not hit.

The crash investigation determined that the driver of the SUV, Ricardo Flores (11/22/1994), had lost control of his vehicle and hit the pole.  Inside the SUV with the driver, was his 17 year old brother.  He was seriously injured and transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

After an investigation Officers determined that the driver, was high on synthetic cannabinoid.  Since the passenger in the vehicle suffered a broken leg and other possible serious injuries, the driver was arrested for intoxicated assault.
