Police Want Help from Public to Locate Missing Man

Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to locate a missing person who Detectives believe may be at a risk of harm.

The family of 42-year-old Martin Zapata reported him as a missing person to the Corpus Christi Police Department after none of the family had any contact with Martin for several days. The family explained to Detectives that Martin was last seen on November 21, 2015 after he left angry from a family members home on the 4600 block of Coventry Lane. The family members told Detectives Martin did not show up for classes at Del Mar College and has not been in contact with any of the family. Detectives believe Martin may be at risk of harm and would like help from the public to locate Martin.

Martin Zapata is described as a 42-year-old Hispanic male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 180 pounds, wears glasses and has faded tattoos on his left arm.

A 49 year old female was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra truck north on Interstate Highway 37 just past Rand Morgan Rd. yesterday about 3:40 PM. The driver lost control of her vehicle and drove off the roadway, down the embankment, struck the center support pole of a highway sign, continued through a concrete culvert, jumped the access road, landed on a bridge guard rail, and then rolled down an embankment and into Turkey Creek. The truck came to rest on the driver side well off the roadway. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening thanks to her seatbelt.

A 27 year old female was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend in front of her home in the 2600 block of Nimitz Street.

Officers arrived and also found that two men who came to help the female had been stabbed.

A witness told Officers that he heard screaming outside his home and when he came out of his house he saw the female being assaulted by a Hispanic male. Two men, visiting a house down the street, then ran over to try and help the female and they were both stabbed.

The 21 year old man was stabbed in the chest, and his 32 year old friend was stabbed in the left arm and right hand. The female was not stabbed, but did have injuries to her face and head from the assault. All three victims were transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The ex-boyfriend, who was identified by the female, left the scene on foot prior to police arrival and he was not located.

Officers did find his car parked on the street and it was impounded.

Crime Stoppers Offers Reward to Catch Armed Robber

A 47-year-old man reported an aggravated Robbery at a restaurant located at 5441 Everhart Road to the Corpus Christi Police Friday evening.

The 47-year-old man told Officers that a man displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The 47-year-old man told Officers that he handed the man the money, and the man ran out of the building and was last seen running west on Bonner.  No injuries were reported.

The 47-year-old man described the man as a male with dark skin, bald, and was about 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. Police have not located the suspect.

Investigators Believe Abducted Child May Be In Corpus Christi

Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward to help locate an abducted child or the suspect in the 2012 Mason County abduction who may be in the Corpus Christi area.

Investigators contacted the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers for help to locate John Stanley Earl Junior, an abducted child who Investigators believe may be in the Corpus Christi area. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office Investigators believe Maria Earl (5/22/1962) abducted John Stanley Earl Junior (1/26/2005) on June 15, 2012. Investigators said John was last seen in the company of his non-custodial mother, Maria Earl, and Investigators have obtained three warrants for the arrest of Maria Earl related to the abduction.

Maria Earl is described as a 53 year old woman, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with black hair which may have been highlighted to brown, and brown eyes.

John Earl has a scar on the back of his neck and Maria Earl is known to have used the alias of Teresa Paredez. Investigators provided an image with age progression which shows how John may appear at 9 years of age.

The ex-boyfriend of a female was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he cut his own arms and then tried to blame the female for it.

Officers arrived at a home in the 4100 block of Christie Street after a man called in reporting he had been cut on his left arm and torso by his girlfriend who had a box cutter. The man did not need medical attention.

Officers then went to a home in the 4600 block of Franklin Drive to try and locate the ex-girlfriend.  While at her home speaking to her and investigating the call, she denied being over at his home.  She reported that the man had been calling her all day, and showed officers at least 50 incoming phone calls and numerous text messages on her cell phone from him.  She also told Officers that he had called 911 before reporting a shooting at her home causing emergency units to respond.

While Officers were still there talking to her, the man called 911 to report that the female had returned back to his home on Christie Street and she was there throwing bottles at his house.

The Officers went back to the ex-boyfriends house and arrested, Julio Villarreal (10/17/1981), for making a false report to police and harassment.  They also determined that he had cut himself earlier with a beer bottle.

Corpus Christi Police Arrest Two People for Narcotics Trafficking

Narcotics/Vace Investigators seized over 19 grams of powdered heroin, over 24 grams of black tar heroin as well as over one gram of crack cocaine, gold jewelry, over $700 in cash and a 2005 Ford Explorer Thursday afternoon.

The Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics/Vice Investigators arrested a man and a woman at 1530 Airline for Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 Thursday afternoon.

The arrests were the culmination of a lengthy investigation into heroin dealing in the Corpus Christi.  Jesse Garza (5-23-95) was found to be in possession of over 19 grams of powdered heroin upon his arrest.  Erica Martinez (6-1-95), whose vehicle they were in to make the delivery, was found to be in possession of over 24 grams of black tar heroin as well as over one gram of crack cocaine.  Estimated street value of the drugs seized was $1650.00.  The division seized over $700 in cash and a 2005 Ford Explorer.  Investigators also seized the gold jewelry worn by the suspect, as it was believed to have been purchased with illegal proceeds.

A restaurant employee called Corpus Christi Police after a man armed with a handgun robbed the business, located at 822 South Port Avenue.

When Officers arrived, the women who was working the cash register, told them that a bald black male wearing a dark blue long sleeve shirt entered the restaurant and pointed a gun at her and demanded that she open the register. When she did, the suspect grabbed the cash from the drawer and then walked out.

No one in the business was injured.

Officers have not identified a suspect in this case and continue to investigate.

Police Obtain Warrant For Animal Cruelty Related to Video on Social Media

Corpus Christi Police Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 35-year-old Herman Lee Wright Jr. (10/5/1980) Thursday for cruelty to an animal after a video circulated this week on social media.

Corpus Christi Police received a complaint of animal cruelty at a home on the 5300 block of Gateridge Drive on December 8, 2015. Detectives gathered witnesses and recorded information on December 9, then obtained a warrant for Wright’s arrest on December 10, 2015 from the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 2.

The Corpus Christi Police Department appreciates the passion from the public for proper treatment of animals and thanks everyone for their patience while the evidence and facts were collected properly and carefully recorded to prepare for court presentation.

An emergency room nurse was assaulted by a female patient she was trying to assist at a hospital located in the 3300 block of South Alameda Street.

Corpus Christi Police arrived at the hospital after the patient had already left.  The 47 year old female nurse told Officers that she was discussing the patient’s mental health with her when she turned violent.

The patient hit the nurse four times and then tore an IV out of her arm. The patient then began slinging the IV at the nurse splashing blood all over her arms and clothes. The patient then ran out of the hospital through the emergency room entrance.

A short time later, Officers went to the patients’ home, located in the 3600 block of Panama Drive, and located her there and took her into custody.  Officers arrested the patient, Anita Perez (03/20/1969), for the assault on the nurse.  She was also determined to have an outstanding arrest warrant for another assault back in September.  The bond amount on that arrest warrant was $1,000.
