Patrol Report August 17, 2015

These are a sample of the Criminal Complaints made to the Corpus Christi Police Department over the weekend of August 15-16, 2015.

“Charlie” District

Date: Sunday, August 16, 2015, 2:29am
Location: 3900 South Padre Island Drive
Offense: Intoxicated Manslaughter
Case Number: 1508160028
A 41-year-old man died as a passenger in a vehicle crash at the intersection of South Padre Island Drive and Weber Sunday morning and the operator of the vehicle is accused of an intoxicated driving offense.
Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the South Padre Island Drive and Weber intersection at 2:29am Sunday morning. Officers learned a 39-year-old man drove a Toyota passenger car east on the freeway, navigated the Weber exit but struck the exit sign. Witnesses told Officers the Toyota travelled at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of a Nissan passenger car in the left lane of the South Padre Island Drive access road and caused the Nissan to travel into the intersection of South Padre Island Drive and Weber. Officers learned the Toyota struck a piling for the overpass to where they found the Toyota.
The 41-year-old male passenger in the Toyota did not survive the crash. The operator of the Nissan was a 37-year-old woman who received minor injuries as a result of the crash. The 39-year-old man who drove the Toyota was taken to the hospital for treatment for injuries as a result of the crash.
Officers believe alcohol consumption may be a contributing factor in this crash and so the 39-year-old man is accused of intoxicated manslaughter and will be delivered to the city detention center once he is released from the hospital.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery (Penal Code Section 29.03) 1st Degree Felony

A 45-year-old man reported an aggravated robbery at a convenience store located at 3057 Greenwood to the Corpus Christi Police Saturday.
The 45-year-old man told Officers that he is employed as a clerk at the store and a man entered the store at about 12:40pm, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the register. The 45-year-old man told Officers he provided the money to the man, and the man walked out the store and left the scene. No injuries or property damage was reported. The 45-year-old man described the suspect as a male with medium brown skin who spoke with a thick Spanish accent, and wore a grey beanie cap and plaid shirt.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery (Penal Code Section 29.03) 1st Degree Felony

A 60-year-old woman reported an aggravated robbery at a convenience store located at 301 Mohawk Street to the Corpus Christi Police Saturday. The 60-year-old woman told Officers that she is employed as a clerk at the store and a man entered the store at about 12:57pm, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the register. The 60-year-old woman told Officers she provided the money to the man, and the man left the store and got into a black four door Nissan or Neon with black rims and black tinted windows. No injuries or property damage was reported. The 60-year-old woman described the suspect as a male with medium brown skin who spoke with a thick Spanish accent, about 20 years of age and wore a grey beanie cap, plaid shirt, black shorts and brown shoes.

Search Warrant Yields Drugs and Guns

On August 14, 2015 at 2:45pm the Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics Vice Investigations Division served a search and arrest warrant at 2022 Treyway.  The warrant was the culimination of an investigation into drug sales in public housing undertaken by Narcotics Vice Investigations Division investigators.  Seized at the warrant were over 5 ounces of hydroponic marijuana, 158.4 grams of THC oil and THC wax, and almost 1500 dosage units of suspected LSD along with two firearms, a 9mm and .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol.  Total street value of the drugs was just under $20,000.  Three subjects, Michael Pena (1-29-91), Jesse Mesa (12-7-92) and Timitri Dennis (8-31-92) were taken into custody and transported to the city detention center.

A bank employee called Corpus Christi Police after he found someone had spray painted the camera window of the ATM.

Officers arrived at the Texas Champion Bank, located at 1919 Rodd Field Road, and found a service technician already repairing the machine.

The bank employee told Officers that he was checking the ATM when he noticed the camera window was spray painted.

He estimated that it would cost approximately $500 for the repair of the camera window and for the repainting of the machine.

At this time no suspects have been identified and Officers continue to investigate this crime.

SWAT Operations End With Arrest

Corpus Christi Police SWAT took a man into custody after he assaulted his  23-year-old girlfriend and a 21-year-old male neighbor who was trying to help the female.

Officers had originally been called to the apartment, located at 5757 Wooldridge Road, after the female called police stating her boyfriend had hit her several times in the face.  The neighbor was leaving for work when he saw the disturbance occurring outside of the couple’s apartment.  He yelled at the male to leave the female alone.

The neighbor then told Officers that the man pulled out a knife and grabbed the female by the throat.  The neighbor again yelled at the man to drop the knife, but instead, he came across the walkway to where the neighbor was standing and made threats to kill him.

Eventually, the boyfriend went back into his apartment and locked the door.  The female and the neighbor were able to get to safety and call the police.

Once Officers arrived the man refused to allow them to enter the apartment.  The girlfriend told Officers that her boyfriend still had the knife he used to assault her in his possession, and he also owned a firearm that was inside the residence.

Officers attempted to communicate with the man from outside of the apartment, but he would not respond.

SWAT and Hostages Negotiators responded to the scene just after 8 AM.  They communicated with the man inside with a loud speaker.  They were able to convince the man  to come outside and he was taken into custody at 10:15 AM.

Officers arrested the man, Blair Adair (05/24/1990), for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and assault family violence by choking.  All charges are felony offenses.

The female victim had injuries to her face which included a possible broken nose. She was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

The neighbor was not injured during the attack.

Offense: Crash
Case Number: C1503442
Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash involving a semi-trailer with a forklift on the back and a cement overpass on East Causeway Boulevard and Burleson Street.

Officers arrived and found that the tractor and trailer were traveling west on the 500 block of Burleson Street when the cargo on the trailer being transported hit the upper support of the overpass causing $15,000 in damage.

There were no injuries and the Texas Department of Transportation responded to inspect the overpass.

Patrol Report 08/10/2015

Corpus Christi Police, with the assistance of the Naval Air Station Police, took a man into custody after he made 40 silent or abusive calls to 911.

Metrocom was able to ping the location of a cell phone being used by the caller and found it was coming from a location on the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

NAS Police went out and found the man, William Orth (10/18/1960), with the cell phone in his possession.

He was turned over to Corpus Christi Police and arrested.

Help Identify This Child Predator

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a man they believe grabbed a 7 year old girl while she played on a bench inside a restaurant.

Just after 10 PM on August 3, the mother of the girl was placing an order at the counter when her daughter ran to her and said a man had placed his hands in between her legs over her clothing.

The man is seen in the video, obtained from the restaurant, watching the child from outside the restaurant. He then walks in, and while she is playing on a bench inside, he assaults her. He then exits the front entrance. He was last seen wearing a tan baseball cap, brown t-shirt, grey pants and white tennis shoes.

The suspect in this case has not been identified, and detectives need you help in solving this crime.

Patrol Report 08/07/2015

Offense: Aggravated Robbery
P.C. 29.03       First Degree Felony

A suspect walked into the Stripes Store, located at 3102 Ayers Street, with a black object in his hand, demanding money from the two store employees that were on duty.

The two employees did not believe the object was a gun, but the suspect used it to threaten them. The suspect walked behind the counter and began to push several buttons on the cash register in attempt to open it.

One of the employees said he was calling the police and the suspect started to leave. Before walking out the suspect grabbed the cash register and threw it on the ground. The suspect fled the store without getting any money.

He was described as a Hispanic male in his late twenties to middle thirties, with a large build. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, a dark grey t-shirt and jeans, and his face was covered with a dark grey cloth.

No suspects have been arrested in this case, and Officers continue to investigate this crime.

Patrol Report 08/06/2015

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated

Corpus Christi Police responded to a hit and run crash at the corner of South Alameda Street and Paloma Street.

The crash investigation revealed that a 2013 Ford Explorer was stopped at the stop sign on Paloma Street waiting to turn onto South Alameda. A 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser turned unsafely onto Paloma Street side swiping the Ford on the driver and passenger side. The driver of the Chrysler did not stop, and fled the scene of the crash.

The 53 year old female driver of the Ford followed the hit and run vehicle to a home in the 4800 block of Jarvis Street. There Officers found the female driver of the hit and run vehicle, Kimberly Reyes (08/23/1991).  After an investigation it was determined that she was intoxicated and she was arrested.

There were no injuries as a result of the crash.

A bank teller called Corpus Christi Police after she noticed that the drive thru ATM at the Navy Army Federal Credit Union, located at 5725 Spohn Drive, had been damaged.

Officers arrived and were told that video surveillance captured a dark colored Chevrolet Avalanche truck enter the drive thru lane at about 11:35 PM on August 3.

The first thing the male suspect does is spray paint the surveillance camera on the machine. He then exits the truck and breaks the lock on the front panel of the ATM and then attempts to use a heating tool to make entry into the safe located at the bottom of the machine.

The suspect was unsuccessful in his attempts to get any money from inside the ATM, but he did cause nearly $5000 in damage.

At this time, Officers are still investigating this case and no suspects have been arrested.
