Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash on the JFK Causeway in lanes going toward Padre Island.

When Officers arrived they determined that the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala had rear ended a 2001 Hyundai SUV that was stopped on the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the SUV, a 46 year old female, had stopped to assist her 17 year old son, who was changing a tire on his vehicle. When the Impala struck the parked SUV, the SUV was pushed forward and it struck the young man changing the tire.

He was only grazed by his mother’s SUV and then thrown into the retaining wall. The young man was treated at the scene by CCFD EMS, but only suffered some bruising and abrasions.

After an investigation, it was determined that the driver of the Impala, Rodney John Cervantes (06/26/1992) was intoxicated. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Tip A Cop Set For Thursday

The Tip A Cop event will take place on Thursday, July 23 at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant located at 2029 South Padre Island Drive from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Officers and Firefighters will be there to accept your donations.

Suspect Sought In Purse Snatching

Corpus Christ Police Detectives have released camera images of a suspect that they believe committed a purse snatching in front of the CVS Pharmacy located at 1240 South Port Avenue on July 20.

A 71 year old female told Officers that just outside the store entrance a man approached her and asked if he could have some change. When the female went to look into her purse, the man pushed her and then grabbed the handle of her bag. He forcefully took the purse from the female and took off running.

The female was not injured.

Camera images of the suspect were obtained by the CVS while the male suspect was inside the store just prior to this crime.

The male suspect was last seen wearing black jean shorts, an orange short sleeve shirt with white stripes.  He had short dark brown hair with facial hair and a goatee.

The suspect in this case has not been identified and Detectives need your help in solving this crime. Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840. A 62 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he saw a man exposing himself near the public showers and restrooms in the 14900 block of Windward Drive.

Officers arrived and were told that a man was sitting in his grey Honda sedan and he would open the door of his car and expose himself.

Officers saw the car parked with the man inside and he had his driver’s side door open and his feet handing out of the car. The Officer also saw that his underwear was pushed down to his knees and he was exposing himself.

Officers arrested the man, Larry Reuter (03/10/1951), for indecent exposure and his car was impounded.

Officers Disarm Man With a Knife

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a naked man dragging a female on the ground by the hair and throat in the 900 block of Gardenia Drive.

Witnesses told Officers that they saw the man force the female inside a home located at 909 Gardenia Drive. When Officers arrived they heard yelling coming from inside of the home. They were able to determine that the man, his 59 year old wife and his 23 year old grandson and 12 year old granddaughter were all inside the home.

The people inside were able to yell to Officers that the man had a knife. An Officer was able to get a family member, that was inside the home, to open a front window in order to try and talk to the suspect that was armed with the knife.

The Officer observed the suspect become agitated when his wife would stand up or step toward the front door.  he could also see the man was armed with a knife.

Corpus Christi Police SWAT and Hostage Negotiators were requested to respond to the call. Before they arrived Officers were able to force their way into the home and disarm the man.

His wife had a small stab wound to her right hand. She was treated at the scene by CCFD EMS.

The two grandchildren inside the home were not injured.

Officers arrested the 65 year old man for aggravated assault.  He is being treated at Spohn Shoreline Hospital for injuries he received prior to contact with police.

Facebook Post Leads to Assault

A 50 year old man was hit in the head by his girlfriend after the two got into a disturbance over a Facebook posting.

The man called Corpus Christi Police and told them that he and his girlfriend were having an argument over a Facebook posting while inside their home located in the 100 block of Castlewood Street.

He said that they were yelling at each other and he went to lay down on the couch. That is when his girlfriend, Manuela Yruegas (11/27/1980), struck him in the head with a metal “Rawlings” baseball bat.

The man had a severe cut to his forehead, but he refused to be taken to the hospital.   He was treated at the scene by CCFD EMS.

The female was arrested for aggravated assault.

Help Us Catch These Two Guys

Corpus Christ Police Detectives have released camera images of two suspects they believe committed a theft at the Academy Store located at 5001 South Padre Island Drive on July 15.

Store employees told Officers that they observed two males walk into the store and they picked up a duffel bag off of the shelf. The two males then started putting clothes into the large bag.

When store employees approached the two suspects they ran out of the fire exit door with the unpaid for merchandise. Store employees chased the two males who ran toward Williams Street. While they were running, they dropped the duffel bag.

The duffel bag that was dropped by the men was recovered. It had 39 items inside and the merchandise was valued at over $1,700.

The suspects both appear to be young Hispanic males and they were both last seen getting  into a red Chevrolet HHR.

The suspects in this case have not been located and Detectives need your help in identifying these two individuals. Two sisters got into an argument while they were leaving McCaw’s Bar in a car and the younger sister wound up stabbing her older sister.

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to the Whataburger Restaurant, located at 6410 Weber Road, after the car the females were in moved across the street.

When Officers arrived they found three females in the parking lot, and one of the females was bleeding from her right arm. The 23 year old female told Officers she had been stabbed by her younger sister, Mercedise Morris (10/18/1995), after an argument at the bar over a former boyfriend of the younger sister.

Officers found the younger sister in the restroom of the restaurant and she was arrested for aggravate assault.

The older sister was transported to Spohn Memorial Medical Center by CCFD EMS.

A knife believed to be used was recovered by Officers.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer wrangled a snake as he worked a vehicle crash on the Harbor Bridge Saturday morning.

Corpus Christi Police Officer Jason Lee started his shift for the day at 7:38am and responded to a single vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of the Harbor Bridge headed from North Beach to downtown Corpus Christi. Officer Lee saw a green 1997 Chevy Suburban had crashed into the concrete wall on the right side of the bridge. Officer Lee arrested the driver of the Suburban, 40-year-old Andreas Garcia (12/11/1974) for driving while intoxicated. Officer Lee learned that Garcia had a pet snake, a three-foot long Ball Python named, “Rocky” in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Officer Lee discovered that the glass aquarium which housed the snake was broken in the crash and Officer Lee got the snake safely, and requested Corpus Christi Animal Care Services to care for the snake while Garcia was delivered to the city detention center. Animal Care Services did accept the snake and believe the snake was not injured in the crash. Garcia was not injured in the crash and Officer Lee took Garcia to the hospital for medical clearance and to collect a blood specimen for evidence, then delivered Garcia to the city detention center. The Suburban was taken to the city impound lot, and the bridge was returned open to normal use.

A 48 year old man driving around looking for a motel room was robbed by several suspects in the 4000 block of Leopard Street.

The man called Corpus Christi Police and told Officers he had been driving around from motel to motel for two hours trying to find one with a vacancy.

When he parked at the Economy Inn, located at 4024 Leopard Street, and was walking toward the front office he was approached by two male and two female suspects. One of the males pointed a gun at his head and demanded he hand over his money. The victim gave up his wallet, that had cash inside, and two cell phones.

The victim was able to provide Officers with a description of the four suspects. They were described as two black males, both wearing white tank top shirts and blue jeans. The two white females were last seen wearing a pink shirt and pink shorts and the other wearing a button up shirt over a black shirt with blue jean shorts.

At this time, no suspects have been arrested.

The victim was not injured.
